Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have just returned from a two night stay at The George Country Inn, the rooms are lovely decorated ,cosy and well equipped. As a family we booked all three rooms, the breakfast was excellent with a great choice. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was top quality and good sized portions . I would definitely recommend this hotel. The staff are so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us.

We have had several meals at The George since Keren and Paul took over and every one has been superb - the quality of food, the choice, the service and the pub as a whole are all excellent. Keren and Paul are doing a great job and I would recommend visiting The George to everyone - it's definitely worth it!

We had a fantic meal this evening, extremely tasty, piping hot, and served with a smile. This is a MUST if you love good food and service at a great price. If I didn't live so close, I would book a room and stay for the weekend. (The rooms and breakfast look amazing) 5 gold stars all round from me.

Absolutely amazing stay. Arrived in the middle of a community BBQ and instantly invited to attend. Our room was spotless and the bed really comfy. Plenty of parking and a lovely atmosphere. The hosts could not do enough to make our stay a good one. I hope to return soon

After deciding that we would like to try somewhere different for Sunday lunch, I googled different places within 10 miles of home. One of the pubs in the search was the George Country Inn and I was impressed by the recent reviews. At 12:30 on Sunday afternoon, I didn’t expect that they would have any availability, but thankfully, we were able to book a table for 14:30. We arrived to the village pub to find a very generous car park to rear and doors at the back of the pub led us to the main bar. The decor of the pub is great… it looks like it has been quite recently refurbished… and very sympathetically too! The pub was inviting, with a log burner giving out some amazing heat! We were greeted at the bar by the lovely friendly landlady who pointed us in the direction of our table and we ordered our drinks at the bar. There was a good selection of guest beers on offer as well as the OH favourite Guinness! The menu was very tempting and I could have chosen at least 3 things from the starters! I ordered the Prawn Cocktail and the OH the homemade roasted red pepper soup. The waitress was super friendly and polite and brought out both starters within 10 minutes. The soup was piping hot and according to the OH ‘It’s the best soup I have had in a very long time and I could just have another bowl’! We ordered roasted pork loin and lamb shank (I overheard the landlady telling some other diners that they had lamb on but we hadn’t been told before ordering and I had actually ordered roast beef. I asked if it was possible to change and it was all sorted with no bother). The dinners arrived promptly and looked amazing! Both plates had roast potatoes, 2 Yorkshire Puddings, and gravy, also cracking with the pork (extra had been put on the OH plate at his request)! In addition to the plates, we were served with mixed greens, honey roasted carrots and parsnips and a massive portion of cauliflower cheese! Even after the amazing portions we managed to squeeze in a desert. We both opted for the homemade lemon posset with meringue and raspberry sorbet… wow .. definitely the highlight of my dinner! The food was very reasonably priced and the service fantastic. On leaving the pub, we got back to our car to find it wouldn’t start! We were unable to get a phone signal and the landlady was so helpful in allowing us to use the land line to call The AA. Nothing was too much trouble. All was sorted within the next 90 minutes which allowed us to have another drink and enjoy the ambience! We will definitely be back and will be bringing family and friends.

Although this may seem odd to post a review of a place I haven’t yet stayed, I want to comment on how fabulous this accommodation has been for us after booking a room and then unfortunately not being able to stay. We were due to come for the weekend to attend the Deershed festival but unfortunately after a car accident on Monday evening resulting in a broken foot, I requested to cancel and the George have been so understanding and amenable, I needed to post a review. We are hopeful of physically getting to stay here at some point in the future. Fabulous place

A pity we were late arrivals as the food looked good, lovely clean rooms, very modern. The rooms were very warm but thats not the owners fault, blame the unexpected heat wave! A fan was in each room to take the edge off it, so no complaints. Bar looks very welcoming, we only had time for a quick drink during our stay, can highly recommend the cider. We are already planning on returning, note: please book in advance if you wish breakfast.

Stayed for the weekend with friends, room was immaculate and beautifully decorated. In a lovely village with friendly locals. Will definitely be back. My only wish would be for more tea and coffee in the rooms but I’m sure if I had asked they would have been there in a flash.

My wife and I only stayed for one night as we were touring North Yorkshire. This pub/inn/hotel is very conveniently situated just outside Ripon, in the quiet village of Wath. There is a large car park at the rear. The premises appeared to have been completely refurbished of late. The place was immaculate. The quality furnishings and fittings throughout reflected attention to detail. The hotel is run by two guys who clearly take pride in their service. We were on the half board arrangement of two courses for the evening meal and breakfast. My steak and ale pie was absolutely delicious, crammed with chunks of tender, quality steak and gravy to die for. One completes a breakfast order form prior to retiring. Breakfast is cooked to order and was excellent. Everything is done right here. A most enjoyable overnight stay.
