The George Country Inn has been totally transformed by Joe & Nathan, and what a job they’ve done…. it’s like stepping into a very trendy bar in a city center with the ambience of a village pub! Opening night was rammed, and whilst the service was a little slow at times, everyone had a smile on their face, were chatty, friendly and eager to help. Everything served to us at our table was tasty, fresh & hot.
Having subsequently visited to eat on 3 more occassions, the high quality is consistent and faultless. We’ve been sure to sample pretty much everything on the menu, which covers all tastes, and we can’t choose a favourite. Head chef Dan is obviously very talented and has now started extending the menu which is great news for us as it means we have even more reason to keep going back!
The property is spotless, the attention to detail is quite remarkable and if you like a G & T I can quite honestly say the Jawbone Gin with Ginger Ale & Homemade Honeycomb is an absolute triumph!
This restaurant with rooms deserves every success.

We had a wonderful weeks stay in Sept 2021 and felt very lucky to manage to book a whole week in a period when it seemes the whole of the UK was staycationing. All was spotlessly clean and freshly decorated, our room (no 2) had been well thought out for use of space and we were comfortable. Our days were spent doing the tourism bit and with everywhere seemingly fully booked for meals in the evening we tended to eat away and at the end of the afternoon. However we enjoyed our one meal at the George Inn on our first night. It would be hard to fault anything having so recently been refurbished and all was very modern and up to date! We thank Joe and Nathan for all their kindnesses and for ensuring our time with them was so very pleasant.

Beautifully renovated village inn with comfortable, modern rooms, lovely breakfast and in a great location close to the A1(M ) and the lovely market town of Ripon. Based on this I would have given it a full 5 stars, however the evening meal was a real let down. There was only one traditional draught ale on but my husband said it was good. When he asked for a second pint he was told they had run out of beer though there were any number of continental lager type pumps. To make matters worse they actually had no bottled beer, only lager. In respect of our evening meal my prawn starter was hard, and greasy. My main course of slow cooked pork was fine. My husbands duck starter was lovely but his rib-eye steak was tough and full of gristle. There is no excuse for serving poor beef nowadays as excellent steak is readily available. This is a lovely country inn spoiled by a disappointing evening meal.

Hi Diane, Thank you for the review and we're glad you enjoyed your 1 night stay with us. We're in the perfect position to enjoy the beautiful attractions North Yorkshire has to offer. We were exceptionally busy on Friday and Saturday and unfortunately we did run out of our cask ales late on Saturday evening. As we were closing for 2 weeks from Monday it was very hard to predict how much we would need and the last thing we would want to do is throw good beer down the drain, enough of that was done in lockdown. We still had numerous draught lagers on tap and a variety of bottled beers available, so after your husband had enjoyed his 2 x pints of Jorvik he certainly wouldn't have gone thirsty. It's disappointing to hear you didn't enjoy your starter, it's one of our best sellers, but bruschetta is hard by nature and not to everyone's tastes. All of our beef is supplied by a local butcher in Ripon and people come back time and time again for them. When you were asked was everything ok with your meal, we would have happily replaced this or given your husband another dish. But when you say everything is fine and only tell us at the end of the meal when the steak was finished we are limited in what we can do. As a good will gesture we removed the charge of this from the bill as no other alternatives were suitable. Many Thanks The George Country Inn

What a fabulous weekend away spent at this beautiful venue. Such a warm welcome on first arriving and this continued for our 2 night stay. Nothing was to much trouble. We stayed in the king deluxe room which was clean, modern and spacious with lovely finishing touches such as fluffy robes, luxury toiletries and to really add that special touch as I had mentioned that it was my husband's birthday a complimentary gift awaited us on our arrival.
We had breakfast both mornings and an evening meal on our first night. All were delicious. We would highly recommend this venue and look forward to returning.

My wife and I have just returned from a two night stay at The George Country Inn in Wath. Wow what a find. It has recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment. We were met by the owners Joe and Nathan on arrival, who both made you feel so welcome. It is beautifully decorated and furnished to a super high standard throughout. The ensuite bedrooms are spotless, spacious, beautifully furnished and comfy. They have everything you need for a perfect stay.
The bar is stocked with quality beers, wines and spirits and has a great ambience. We ate in the restaurant both night, it is superb and the service is first class. The food is amazing with a great choice of dishes, the finest food cooked to the highest standards by the chef Dan.
We would highly recommend The George Country Inn and we will be returning in the future. Thank you to Joe, Nathan and their team for the most perfect stay.

Fantastic visit at the George. Joe, Nathan and the team were great from start to finish. We had the 4 rooms on opening night and even though they were super busy (which is good to see!) they couldn’t do enough for us. They gave us a welcome drink when we arrived and helped to keep the surprise my sister for her 30th birthday. The rooms were lovely - spotless and really comfy with little touches throughout. The breakfast was also first class, plus they catered for a member of the family who needed a gluten free option which is always appreciated. We’ll be back!

My wife and I only stayed for one night as we were touring North Yorkshire. This pub/inn/hotel is very conveniently situated just outside Ripon, in the quiet village of Wath. There is a large car park at the rear. The premises appeared to have been completely refurbished of late. The place was immaculate. The quality furnishings and fittings throughout reflected attention to detail. The hotel is run by two guys who clearly take pride in their service. We were on the half board arrangement of two courses for the evening meal and breakfast. My steak and ale pie was absolutely delicious, crammed with chunks of tender, quality steak and gravy to die for. One completes a breakfast order form prior to retiring. Breakfast is cooked to order and was excellent. Everything is done right here. A most enjoyable overnight stay.

The food is fantastic and the chef is really passionate about the quality of food he serves.
I would thoroughly recommend this place as a base to visit nearby Ripon and North Yorkshire.

A pity we were late arrivals as the food looked good, lovely clean rooms, very modern. The rooms were very warm but thats not the owners fault, blame the unexpected heat wave! A fan was in each room to take the edge off it, so no complaints. Bar looks very welcoming, we only had time for a quick drink during our stay, can highly recommend the cider.
We are already planning on returning, note: please book in advance if you wish breakfast.

We had a fantic meal this evening, extremely tasty, piping hot, and served with a smile. This is a MUST if you love good food and service at a great price. If I didn't live so close, I would book a room and stay for the weekend. (The rooms and breakfast look amazing) 5 gold stars all round from me.
