#1 of 1 B&B in Harman's Cross

The Isle of Purbeck in Dorset has some unusual features, not least that it is not an island at all but a peninsula, but nonetheless it is a unique and special place for residents and visitors. Framed by Poole Harbour and the English Channel it has a curious mix of geographic features, resulting in some dynamic coastal formations and more species of wild flowers than any other comparable area in the country. The famous Purbeck stone hails from here too and is widely used locally, forming a feature of charming traditional Dorset buildings as exemplified perfectly by April Cottage. The Cottage and Lodge are situated in the village of Harman's Cross, halfway between Corfe Castle and Swanage. It is the first cottage on the left when turning into South Instow. Reached from Wareham on the A351 or by ferry from Sandbanks to Studland it is a location ideal for exploring the local and wider attractions. South coast attractions nearby include Brownsea Island, Studland Beach, Poole and Bournemouth, and within walking distance is the Swanage Heritage Railway. The Isle of Purbeck cliffs are truly spectacular and lead onto the notable geological formations of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Your hosts at April Cottage are Joanna and Peter Burri-Weaver and in keeping with the unique blend of characteristics on the Isle of Purbeck they offer a personalised level of Anglo-Swiss hospitality sure to make any guest feel welcome. In addition, not many guest accommodations can boast an ex-Olympian and SAS descendant for hosts and just for some extra appeal the full English breakfast which comes with every stay can be taken in the large gardens, weather permitting of course. Two guest rooms are available at April Cottage, a ground floor twin room with private bathroom and a large first floor double en-suite, reached by spiral staircase. The double room can accommodate a further bed. There is ample parking on-site and free Wi-Fi. The Lodge can accommodate 3-4 people or can be hired for a private BBQ. There is hardly a more romantic place for you to enjoy a cosy evening.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Warm, welcoming hosts at this delightful cottage with truly stunning gardens. Breakfast was delicious and there were a lot of thoughtful touches that made our stay an absolute joy. The bedroom was very comfortable with tea & coffee provided. The spiral staircase to the bedroom is narrow, but Peter did check this would be ok when we booked and it was not a problem for us (a couple in their 60s!). Convenient parking available next to the cottage. Peter shared his local knowledge that gave us a great alternative plan on a wet day. Highly recommended 10/10. Thank you.

Stayed in April Cottage at the beginning of September and wow what a delightful place to stay. We were lucky to have the double room in the loft with a great view plus seeing the steam trains going along the Swanage railway. They had a slightly different take on the English breakfast, but it worked and was absolutely delicious, and we were lucky enough to be able to sit out in the garden for breakfast both mornings. Very central for visiting Corfe Castle and Swanage beach. Would stay here again if visiting the area and would have no hesitation in recommending.

Stayed for 1 night at Lapland Lodge with my partner and dog. Peter was a brilliant host, he has not missed a single detail in the lodge. It’s so cosy & clean and full with everything you may need. it was a perfect night away in beautiful grounds, in the morning we had breakfast in the main cottage which was amazing! A unique, quaint getaway in the purbeck! Will definitely return!

Lucky to find availability. From arrival to departure, a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We were made to feel so welcome, comfortable and at ease. Room lovely, cosy and clean. Beautiful garden and setting to relax in. Hosts were amazing and the breakfasts really something to remember. A culinary treat! Look forward to staying with Joey & Peter again in their B&B Would recommend eating at The Pink Goat in Corfe. You’ll not be disappointed!

We spent 2 nights here recently at this B&B. The room was very comfortable and clean and breakfast was amazing. No lunch needed. Peter is a very friendly host. The cottage was very central to our few days away. We would certainly consider staying here again if visiting the area. This stay was a gift so no idea of prices.

We had a lovely time at April cottage and was very pleased with our room. Peter was a great host and very welcoming and accommodating. The shower was very good and the views were great too. The cottage is in a great location to lots of attractions all within a short drive. The garden is beautiful and when warmer would be lovely to sit out in . Thank you again for a very enjoyable stay.
