Three former lighthouse keepers cottages at the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland - Lightkeeper's Cottage (sleeps 4), Kittiwake House and Puffin House (both sleep 6). Relax and enjoy the sea views, fresh air and the local wildlife. You can see many nesting seabirds and watch out for dolphins, porpoise and whales, plus the movement of ferries, fishing boats and pleasure craft between Scotland, Ireland, England and the Isle of Man. Enjoy a unique experience at a lighthouse holiday cottage in Scotland. Pets are welcome and all our cottages are fully equipped, spacious and comfortable. Kittiwake House and Puffin House have log burners in the sitting rooms. Free Wifi is provided with a 'fair use' policy in place. The cottages are owned and operated by the Mull of Galloway Trust following a community buyout in 2013. The Trust is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a fabulous October break at Puffin House. The location is spectacular. The cottage is spacious yet cosy and warm despite despite the stormy weather. We learnt so much about Lighthouses and the lives of Lighthouse Keepers and local wildlife at the RSPB Visitor Centre. Friendly and informative staff all round. Thank you for a great stay. We will definitely be back.

A fabulous place to stay, this was our sixth visit. We deliberately stayed out of season this year as we have always had lovely weather previously and wanted to see what it was like in storm. Storm Agnes did not disappoint! Despite the weather outside the house was warm and cosy. Hope to be back again next year. Can’t recommend it enough.

Cottage was just as expected, comfortable, cozy ,and great location, too short a stay to appreciate beautiful surroundings, hopefully be back soon. Loved History of Lighthouse and the fact I walked in Gérard Butler's footsteps #the vanishing.

We fell in love with the Mull of Galloway last year and knew we’d return. As before, the holiday cottage had everything we needed. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the beds super comfy. We love the remoteness and the peace and quite the Mull of Galloway offers. It really is a place to get away from it all. We were so lucky to spot a large pod of dolphins on our last day there. A truly magical experience.

Nicely converted cottages next to lighthouse. Kitchen very well stocked, very clean. Cottages nice and warm, because even in May the weather was…..brisk! You are allowed to park nearby to unload. Slightly complicated arrival directions but all worked perfectly. Has wi-fi and TV. Nearest shop is 30mins drive down single track road so good food planning is essential. You can get a takeaway pizza in nearest village but only with 24 hours notice! Village shop in Drummore is adequate for essentials, nearest supermarkets are in Stranraer. Kitchen helpfully provided with dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid etc and nice coffee and biscuit selection. Even as an experienced country road driver I don’t think I’d like to arrive after dark, approach road narrow and a little unnerving.

absolutely loved it. Puffin house was spacious, very well equipped and comfortable sofas and beds. Very quiet. Great views. Went up the lighthouse included in the price. Arrived before dark which was a good idea for the single lane road with passing places. Stayed with 2 friends for a long weekend.

We recently stayed in Kittiwake cottage with our 5 year old and 9 month old. We were a bit worried because our baby had just started crawling before we got there and were a bit worried it would be unsafe. With it all being on one level, we needn’t have worried and were surprised how suitable it was for young families. The accommodation was clean and functional, just what we needed. They provided a cot and Highchair which was helpful to save on car space!! The holiday was about as relaxing as it could be with 2 young children. Our son loved exploring around lighthouse and trying to spot wildlife. We climbed the lighthouse twice and even though it wasn’t the clearest of days, the views were breathtaking. There are enough attractions nearby for children if you’re prepared to drive. It felt like such a unique, once in a lifetime experience but I really don’t think it will be once in a lifetime as we’d love to come back. If you do stay, wake up early and watch the sunrise. I’ve never seen views like it!

Thanks for your lovely review and glad you were able to enjoy your holiday with the children. In warmer weather, the local beaches are perfect for an old fashioned bucket-and-spade holiday, so I do hope we can welcome you back again in the future.

Two cottages, a 6 & 4 for a family group to celebrate a 60th birthday. Cottages were as described and very good indeed. Warm and cosy, especially given the rain and strong winds, with good internet access, shower and everything you'd need for self catering. Particular thanks go to the duty manager who responded to our plea for help when we locked ourselves out of one of the cottages...our own stupidity. Would recommend without reservation. There is a flat screen TV provided but it is not a huge screen size by modern standards and lacks accessible HDMI ports etc. Access to the private walled garden and summerhouse is provided and would be great on better weather days. Lighthouse is closed to visitors in winter so a very quiet location with not many visitors.
