Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hi all, Recently stayed at the Grange Court as we were attending a wedding at Rockbeare Manor we arrived mid afternoon , the drive has a few pot holes but ok, plenty of parking directly outside the hotel there is a car park next to the hotel sadly in need of a bit of attention due to rubbish and overgrown shrubs and open Oil storage tanks, rang the bell was met by Steve we believe is the owner/proprietor very welcoming and efficient in his description of how the hotel runs , we informed him we were attending a wedding and he let us know he can take us to Rockbeare Manor for a donation to the staff tip box which was a big help sadly he does not do returns but assisted in suggesting local taxi firms, we got a local and he charged £15 for our return in the evening from the wedding. Can I say think your missing a trick Steve not offering the returns think you could have a lot of takers and your staff tip box would fill quickly, some of the other guests at the wedding staying with you could not get taxis ?? On to the hotel and room, the hotel is a traditional style you get the feel your in someone’s house not a bad approach if you used to that sort of hotel but sadly we’re from London where sadly you don’t often find that approach anymore not knocking this but if your used to the more corporate type hotel which are a little more clinical was a bit of a shock. Our room No 8 initial reaction dated in need of an upgrade bed was a little creaky but bedding clean and fresh and towels were excellent, the furniture was sadly very dated, a lot of room dust all around the bedside cabinets and sorry to say floor needed a good hoover, the bathroom was clean and tidy , but again sorry to say the floor needs urgent attention the tiles were old and discoloured which give the impression they are very dirty , there are plus’s the view from the room is fabulous and the tea tray was very good . We had breakfast both days and had a very good freshly cooked full English you pre order but you get what you order, and there’s plenty of tea, coffee juices and pastries Steve provide a great service was cheerful and made you feel welcome without being intrusive which was great after a wedding ,,,,,,,!! Steve we had a comfortable stay but have to say your hotel is looking in need of some TLC and upgrading of your rooms the hotel does not look like the websites and marketing material which is sad as there is a gold mine in those beautiful surroundings. Hope are comments are taken in the right way.

A lovely old building with lots of original features. Plenty of parking. An excellent location to attend a wedding at nearby Rockbeare Manor. Our room had been freshly painted but leaving the window open slightly got rid of the smell. Breakfast was lovely.

Home from home. Great place, lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was amazing and views are to die for. Little difficult to find off the main road but worth it. Lovely little residents bar and loads of nice walks in the area

We had a one night stay here as it was conveniently located for a restaurant we were meeting a group of friends nearby. The hotel is away from the main road and set in beautiful grounds. The staff were very helpful and our room was lovely and spacious overlooking the front garden. We had no complaints but probably agree with a previous review the place could use a deep clean, especially the carpets

Hotel staff very friendly and the location of the hotel was ideal for what we needed with fantastic grounds. However the hotel could do we a deep clean, the beds and shower in the room were clean but the carpets and ornaments in the room were not. While sitting outside myself and other members of my family saw a mouse run across the sitting room (from couch to couch) we informed staff at reception and they assured us they would look into this, but we still saw them a night later, my mum witnessed it run in to the breakfast room. Breakfast wasn’t the best either, the continental had good choice however the cooked breakfast was not cooked well so not worth £12. There was also a not so pleasant smell of foist through out the hotel. For this reason I wouldn’t stay here again

Having booked this Hotel in December 2022, to attend a wedding , on arrival (May 3023) To be informed, the room had water damage and smelt of damp. It was horrendous. They didn't they inform us prior to our arrival. Hence, to say we didn't stay. We travelled 90 miles to find d this information out. Booked another Hotel. Definitely would not recommend it.

Response from steve cox, General Manager at The Grange Court Hotel

I DID EXPLAIN ,THE PEOPLE IN THE ROOM THE NIGHT BEFORE SAID THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. MY STAFF HAVE WORDED WONDERS TO GET THE ROOM BACK TOGETHER DUE TO THE WORST STORM WE HAVE HAD FOR YEARS. I KNEW WHEN YOU WALKED IN THAT YOU WERE THE SORT OF PERSON THAT WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING . IT WAS BEST THAT YOU DID NOT STAY AS WE WANT GUEST TO ENJOY THE B&B AND US THE FAMILY. IF YOU HAD READ THE GUEST BOOK YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN WHAT MOST PEOPLE THINK OF US

This was a business booking, greeted well on arrival. But was informed " your toom only you know" well l didn't know..so confirmed with the office ( as booking .com ) has it listed as breakfast included, however the owner disputes this and says it should ne on there, same goes for " shuttle transfer to airport? " again this is stipulated on (Booking.com website) my compay only book tjis establishment based on proximity to airport and the fact transport was to be provided...all very confusing, l had to pay extra for breakfast l chose full English at £12.00 and transport to airport was £10..and les than 5miles to airport....my room was cold despite using extra blankets provided in room, whikst breakfast was good unfortunately my company will mot be using tjis establishment in the future.

Superb gem of a Bed and Breakfast/Hotel. Comfortable, well stocked rooms. Exemplary hosts - Steve and Diane- Steve collected us from local station - also provided a lift to Exeter station. The breakfast is amazing - full English - but so much else also provided. NB Also used this venue for a wake - superb efficient service - plentiful and generous portions. Dietary requests not a problem AND Hot Food was indeed HOT, which is not usually the case! Highly recommend

Used this hotel as we were guests at a hotel at the nearby Rockbeare Manor, its a lovely looking hotel and has a granf looking hall area where the reception is. Staff were lovely and very helpful. We had issues with out booking through booking.com, we had originally booked 2 night B&B, however 2 days before our visit we received a message that out booking had been cancelled, for no reason. We went straight back on and rebooked, but could only book room only, the room was £10 a night cheaper, however when we checked in, we found out that breakfast was going to be £12 per day each. The breakfast was nice, with a choice of pastries, cerials, toast, fuir juices, teas, coffee, and a cooked breakfast. but we only had breakfast on 1 day because of the raised cost. The room we had (12) is a big room, and a massive bathroom. The room itself needs some modernisation, old style pine furniture, dried flowers etc, and the setup could be better. My wife was doing her makeup for the wedding, but there was no mirror infornt of the desk/ressing table, the mirror was infront of a bedside cabinet that was randomly placed. this made it a bit difficult for her. This kind of furntiure placing is easy to fix however. The bathroom was modern and very clean. TV has the usual freeview channels. You get massive bath towel and some soaps, shower gels etc. Theres a small bar, and lounge to sit in to have your drink, and some nice grounds. They have a decent sized overflow carpark, and due to there closeness to Exeter Airport, they could do a park and stay kinda deal there if you have an early flight. if they wanted. Overall would I say there again, yes I would, few little things wrong but nothing massive.
