This is a gorgeous island which you essentially have entirely to yourself. It is peaceful and idyllic. For surfers it offers endless, gorgeous breaks. For non-surfers it is a serene place to relax, get your yoga on, SUP, kayak, snorkel and swim for hours in the superb, aquamarine sea. The food is very nice. Fresh, hearty, buffet style meals with the option to have a private dinner on the jetty which is a delight. The bungalows are right on the beachfront and each offer a covered deck to relax on, lovely comfy beds with nice linen and air conditioning as well as a ceiling fan. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms need work and our wardrobe was in a poor state. Painting, fixing the bathroom tiles and shower would lift the standard. This is a gorgeous place to get some sun and surf. Unfortunately some of the maintenance let’s the place down otherwise i would have given it a 4 star. The journey to get there can be challenging. Multiple flights before an overnight stay in Padang (we stayed at the Mercure - 3 out of 5). The ferry was very rough on our journey over. Take travel sickness pills is my tip, lots of people were sick. I would also suggest that you upgrade to the VIP section. It’s higher in the boat and there are less people in there. We did this on the return journey and it was worth it. Overall I would recommend Aloita but I would have loved a well maintained bathroom for our stay. …
We're a family of 4, with 2 teenage children. We went to Aloita for 12 nights in August. Our time there was pure bliss, and gave us memories to last a lifetime. It is one of the most intensely relaxing places we have ever been. The photos here do it complete justice; who could not fall for a tropical paradise, all green palm trees, clear warm blue seas, and white sandy beaches? And in between relaxing intensely we managed to do so much – yoga every day (one of us!), loads of snorkelling (never get tired of tropical fish in all their myriad shapes and colours), a jungle trek on a nearby island, kayaking, a SUP trip to nearby mangroves, bodyboarding, and of course surfing every day. And we loved every minute of all of these, which were all brilliant. (As beginner surfers we stuck mostly to the break nearby the resort, which was perfect for learning on, and fairly challenging on some days.) Apart from its stunning location and the fab surfing, what made Aloita special for us was the chilled communal vibe, among both guests and staff. There are few guests at any one time and all the (buffet) meals are eaten at a large communal table. That is great for mingling and getting to know other people from all over the world, as well as the team working there. You feel like you are part of a big family when you are there. A very special mention must go to Fabrizio, who runs Aloita and is a total star. One of the nicest, patient, engaged, friendly guys you will ever meet, and who is clearly a key driver of the lovely atmosphere there. And also to Joao, whose team produces the most delicious meals three times a day. I suspect that most guests, like us, leave Aloita already thinking about their next trip back.…
Aloita is a great place to stay. I spent there more than 10 days and I enjoyed every single moment. The location is perfect, amazing white sand beach where you can chill out and surfing spot nearby. Yoga class in the morning facing the ocean and watching sunset is simply amazing. Bungalows are pretty and cozy. Food is fresh, healthy, with vegan option. Staff was nice, welcoming and helpful. Can't recommend this resort highly enough
I have just come back from this amazing place with my four children. We had an amazing trip - the place, the sea, the staff and the food. Make sure you do the early morning yoga, paddle board trip to the mangroves and the jungle walk. They looked after us so well. It is relaxed but beautifully done.. I am a non-surfer and enjoyed the trip just as much as the rest of my family who had fantastic surfing. I would definitely go back to Aloita.
My husband and I spent 12 days at Aloita, it was one of the best 12 days together we've had. The location is A++, so stunningly beautiful. The owner and the staff were welcoming, warm and genuine. The food, amazing - options to suit all. There's a lot to keep one busy if you don't surf. The resort is run like a well oiled machine...it was impressive. A bonus to our trip were the other guests, who were the icing on the cake. It was truly wonderful and we will be back... I cannot wait!
