Just returning home after a brilliant weekend at the George inn. We stayed as a base for a river cottage visit and were extremely happy with our stay. Every member of staff were so helpful, pleasant and accommodating. Excellent beer and food. Accommodation was great and the whole village is lovely and people very friendly. Lovely walks round the area...

Stayed here as a pit stop on our way down to Cornwall, what an absolute find, a beautiful pub physically, but the welcome we received from the staff was amazing. The rooms are basic, and as per a previous review the bathrooms do need an update, but this is on the cards (the current owners have only had it for...

Having just moved into the village of Chardstock, we needed a place to eat and drink after a long day moving down from the Home Counties. We chose the George, as we had been there before, and anticipated an opportunity to enjoy some good food and fine beer/wine. We were not disappointed as we had a great meal washed down...

We stayed for a night at this pub, on arrival we were met by a lovely young lad who made us feel very welcome. We settled in to our room which was cosy and warm and perfect loved the Monet pictures. Went down for our meal which was fantastic tasty king prawns and the steak sizzler was perfectly cooked, also...

We stayed at the George inn on NYE as a base to go to river cottage, the owners are lovely people and opened the bar early for us so we could all have a drink before our pick-up at 6, the guy even took a friend to the local shop for something which was really kind. We got back quite...

Hard one to rate so I'll start with the good. Lovely owners, very clean bed and towels, hot shower, toiletries, bottled water and stunning breakfast. Bad points, booked a pub to have a night in the bar instead of sitting in the room unfortunately it closed at 4pm and didn't reopen. Room carpet horrible brown stains and bathroom seriously in...

Though we had booked, our family party of nine turned up nearly and hour and a half early. Despite this, the landlord, chef and staff were extremely welcoming and were able to seat and feed us almost immediately. To be honest, I am not a fan of carveries in general, but the pork and beef were both delicious - and...

Me and my partner stayed for 1 night this week. Booked last minute and it was a very pleasant stay. We chose to eat at the pub for dinner which was very good value and proper traditional pub food done well. It was a dark and wintery night but the newly opened fire in the snug kept us toasty! We...

Took a walk through Chardstock in search of a dog friendly pub and we were delighted to see such a beautifully presented, traditional pub opening at 6pm. Having checked that the George was dog friendly and would be able to accomodate us for dinner at 7.30 we strolled on down. The staff were very welcoming, warm atmosphere and plenty of...

We checked this pub out earlier in the year but didn't visit until now. There's no website available yet so no chance of checking out the menu before you arrive. Pub is old and quirky and more like a Devon long house. Ordered the king prawns for starters and arrived very hot. Hubby had crostini which he said was good....
