Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have stayed in Nkhotakota several times and keep coming back to Safari Lodge. The food is excellent, especially the Chambo filets! Love sitting by the lake in their open-air dining area and looking out at magnificent Lake Malawi.Bring a book as there is not much to do other than sit by the water, walk and relax. Nice and quiet and a good place to recharge.

After roughing it on bicycles, staying mostly in cheap guesthouses and resthouses we needed a bit of luxury and rest. It was one of the more expensive places we stayed, but worth every kwacha! We really relaxed there, with the marvelous view of the beach, and they organized a great walking safari in the Nkhotakota national park for us. We loved it so much that when we where in Dedza later in our trip we decided to stay at their 'sister' Dedza pottery lodge (and loved it there as well!)

This place is about 10km south of Nkhotakota and right on a glorious soft sandy beach.
It was built by the same people who created Dedza pottery and indeed there is still a working pottery just a short walk along the beach.
The rooms and all facilities are paved and decorated with beautiful tiles made in the pottery. I love the way that everything about the accommodation has been thought through so that it works and it's comfortable and stylish. Sleep at night is aided by the constant sound of waves breaking on the shore.
The staff are very helpful and the food is a short menu of tasty delights making best use of what is available locally; and very good value.
So this is a little oasis, a zone of calm and well worth a visit.
(TNM 3G works very well here and is relatively good value)

I had a great time during my stay at the Safari Lodge towards the end of February. The most striking aspect was the beautiful, white beach just outside my room! Definitely one of the cleanest beach strips I have seen in Malawi. The staff were friendly, and the food great. The pork chops and chambo fish were a particular favourite of mine. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

The beach here far exceeded expectations- long, sweeping and quiet. We stayed for 3 nights and were the only guests. Unlike Cape Maclear, it's very quiet here, a great spot to catch up on sleep! We stayed in a "standard" room - one of the older rondavel style buildings. The mattress was a bit saggy and the bathroom very dark, but the room was spacious and had two fans plus a fridge. Rooms were cleaned each day.
The food was fine, although, as was often the case in Malawi, not everything on the menu was available. Prices were around 7500k for a main. Waiting staff were very friendly and courteous, but other than that, the rest of the staff were unattentive and preferred to watch the very loud tv that they had on in the bar, which spoiled the tranquility of the place on occasion.
There are no sun loungers despite it being an excellent beach. We had to borrow chairs from the restaurant.
There was no wifi and each day when we asked we were told "maybe tonight". They can sometimes offer card payments but this wasn't working either on the day of our check out.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The lodge was very spacious (with plenty of room for a small family). Our lodge was situated right next to the beautiful lake Malawi and was picture perfect. A lovely resort to just sit & relax.
The staff were very helpful indeed and the food was very good!
If I could suggest any improvement at all it would be for WiFi even if just in the bar area.
A lovely stay & we will be back!

Just to note the drive down the track to the safari resort will take you 15 minutes as you have to take it slowly with all the rocks. If you have empty water bottles the children who live in the village next to the road are very grateful for them.

Stayed at the Lodge for three days. It's suited on the shores of Lake Malawi and gives your stunning sunrises!!! It's quiet and restful. Friendly staff, good meals and comfortable accommodation. It has hot showers too.

We stayed here as a family group of 9 in August 2017. It’s in a wonderful location on the lake with beautiful views from the rooms, which were very comfortable, peaceful and especially loved the outside bath! The kids loved swimming in the lake and to watch a monkey swinging from tree to tree right outside your room was just amazing! The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful and the food was excellent! We would definitely recommend a stay here it’s truly beautiful!

I camped at the Nkhotakota Safari Lodge. The camp sites are right up at the edge of the beach. One can watch the lights of the fisherman by night and the sunrise without even leaving the tent. The grounds are well kept (the facilities are clean (and the bathrooms have soap and toilet paper)), and strolling along the beach is beautiful.
The service is really nice and helpful. The food is pretty good. It is a good time to sit and have fresh coffee or tea (or a gin and tonic) and enjoy the view.
I should mention that the road down to the Safari Lodge is not in the greatest shape, and not the most clearly marked.

It is a good place to stay the night and go to Nkhotakota Park the next day. They also take checks.
I recommend also picking up some of the great Dedze pottery on sale!
