We were very fortunate to be able to travel on 12th April and what a blessing it was to be able to stay in a little piece of paradise with lovely spring sunshine and stunning clear nights for stargazing.

Perfect from start to finish. We stayed in Oak Lodge which had beautufully thought out decoration and literally everything you could need provided. (We had packed our usual things like kitchen scales, ikea toddler plates, decent baking trays. No need its all there) And super comfy beds that were lovely to climb into. Definitely No first night aches and pains at ALBOR!

We made great use of the hot tub, pizza oven and hammocks. Surroundings were beautiful and well thought out for families. We could let the little ones have some freedom supervised from afar and the games built into the landscape were brilliant. We felt like the only people on earth even though the other lodges were occupied

We literally can't fault a single thing. It was just heaven with lovely hosts who I hope are very proud of what they have created.
We will definitely be back. Im sure glamping anywhere else would just be a disappointment

What an absolutely beautiful place to escape to, and enjoy! We stayed in the Rocket Lodge to celebrate my husband’s 50th and it was spotlessly clean, immaculately decorated, and generally offered us a really special and unique place to enjoy family time together. The view from the hot tub and deck is gorgeous, and the disco ball bathroom is just awesome! Sarah went out of her way to decorate the place for us with birthday balloons and banners, and was incredible attentive in her comms beforehand. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly!

I can't recommend A Little Bit of Rough enough! We booked two lodges, Ash and Willow, for a family trip, which was a suprise for my dad's 70th birthday. We made the booking nearly a year prior to the trip and from the start Sarah was fantastic in terms of responding to questions and 'can I just check' emails - even organising beautiful rustic birthday bunting in both lodges. Sarah always responded with a friendly, welcoming tone, which was exactly the same when we finally met in person! On arrival, Nick was getting the wood fired hot tub going at Willow and we felt really welcomed.
The lodges are gorgeous. Beautifully decorated and they look amazing at night, all lit up. The lodges are well spaced out and you really do have your own bit of paradise! The view from Ash is stunning but both lodges were beyond our expectations.
The local area has some great places to visit including Rutland Water and market towns such as Uppingham and Oakham. However if you don't want to venture far from your lodge (and who can blame you?) there's some lovely games, activities and walks you can take advantage of in the Spindlebury woods site.
Within 10 minutes of being there my youngest son asked when could we book to come back! I hope the answer is very soon.
Thank you Sarah and Nick for helping us give my dad a fantastic birthday celebration ☺️

'Tents' are well equipped, clean and inviting. Owners very welcoming and even got the stove lit for us, when we were delayed in traffic, which made arrival on a cold October evening very pleasant. Lots of useful info also provided in advance through their convenient app.

This was a birthday treat for my husband and I must admit I was a little concerned that this ‘wouldn’t be his thing’
Well I can honestly say, I have won wife of the year award because he sad it was the time ever!!
Hence we have booked for next year.
Sarah has thought of everything to make your stay special and easy. They have really thought of everything.
There is lots of space inside and it’s all so comfortable with a sense of grandeur,
It’s so quiet there to (apart from the dawn chorus in the morning).
I also learnt how to use a hammock almost gracefully :)
You will not regret booking to stay here, your only regret is that you didn’t make the choice sooner

This was a fantastic hideaway. It does it a dis-service to call it a tent. Sarah and Tim were fantastic hosts. Anything we might have wanted to know was in a brilliant app and all of the little touches in the tent made it feel very special. They have approached the COVID-19 really well, it felt safe but also subtle changes. They made understandable changes for the current situation so don't read anything into the 'no' board games etc. If its something you enjoy then take your own. Sarah and Tim are being brilliant though challenging times.

The pictures to A little bit of Rough really got us excited and expectations were high! We arrived and were completely blown away and the place ticked every box. Sarah and Nick were so welcoming, the grounds were amazing with loads of places to explore and the lodge was phenomenal, we had everything we needed and more. Will 100% recommend to everyone and anyone.

From the minute we stepped on to the soil at a Little Bit of Rough we felt that there was something special about the place. We rebooked instantly and so far we've been back 3 times! I'm even spending my 50th birthday here in 2022 with my closest friends and family. The attention to detail is phenomenal and everything is carefully thought out. The children, now 7, 10 and 12 never tire of being here, even without their tech! Whether its swinging in a hammock, gazing at the stars or chilling in the hot tub it really feels luxurious and tranquil. I could go on and on about this place (and frequently do).

What an absolute gem , just beautiful and peaceful away from the madding crowds . All you can hear is the birds . Perfectly blissful.
The tent was luxurious in every way a tent could be . Very good comfortable beds , spotlessly clean so a greats nights sleep.
Well equipped with everything you need for glamping and so generous with plenty of wood and firefighters for your use .
Surrounded by nature and stunning sunsets.

Excellent instructions left on how everything works and communications throughout the whole booking process. Sarah and the team are such lovely people .
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a retreat to unwind and relax .

Uppingham is very close by , 5 minutes drive . Rutland Water was well worth the 30 minute journey and the Town of Stamford was very interesting too . Lots of old buildings still remain so very pretty. A must visit whilst you’re in the area .
Enjoyed the whole experience and will be visiting again 😀

Highly recommend

My friends and I stayed in the Rocket Lodge for a weekend trip to celebrate us all turning 40 this year…what an amazing place to get away from it all and unwind. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the accommodation itself was perfect. Wood fired hot tub, outdoor fire pit to roast marshmallows on in the evening, pizza oven to make our own al fresco meal. We didn’t have the best weather but it didn’t matter. In the evenings we relaxed and chatted in the lounge area, had a moonlit soak in either the hot tub or the huge freestanding tub (with disco ball!) or played games. The beds were comfy and each room has such lovely attention to detail.
All in all I would definitely recommend A Little Bit of Rough as a fab, quiet and quirky place to stay and with good communication from the owners.
Thanks!

Hi, which is the best accommodation to book for 2 adults & 2 children age 11 & 6 . Thanks

All their lodges are equally sized, plenty of space for your family. The decisions to make is if you want to make us of the outside baths or hot tub. They are all fantastic and can’t really make a wrong choice. We’ve stayed twice and had different lodges there. Have an 13yo and 5yo

Hi June. As much as we love dogs, due to the level of wildlife in the woodland and livestock in the fields that surround our site, we regret that pets are not permitted to stay. Warmest regards A Little Bit of Rough

Hi do u bring your own food or is there somewhere near by to buy from. Thanks
Answer from Sarah J
Uppingham, United Kingdom6 contributions5 helpful votes
Hi Sarah. You can bring food with you if you wish, or we are located about a 7 minute drive from Uppingham where there is a large co-op that would stock everything that you would require for you stay along with a couple of butchers and places to get cake! We are currently building an onsite honesty shop that will stock eggs, bacon etc which will be open when you come to stay in July. Warmest regards Sarah
