We arrived at 1pm because our booking from hotels.com stated that was check in time, once there we were told check in is actually 3pm. It was a bit annoying but we left our bags and set out to explore. The location is great, you really couldn’t ask for a better more centrally located hotel. Once we returned at 2:52pm we were told the room wasn’t done yet. But it should be in 20 minutes. We were offered coffee while we waited. All very thoughtful and accommodating, but really after a full morning of traveling we just wanted to be in our room. It was done a little after 3pm.

Once we made our way through the kitchen and down the hall we ended up in #6. It’s a very small room with windows that open to the basement area. Because we book with hotels.com I’ve noticed a trend, both in the US and abroad that we tend to get lower quality rooms. Since I didn’t see any other rooms I’m not positive where #6 is on the list, but I’m guessing towards the bottom. It was so cramped we couldn’t even open the door all the way. If we left the windows open for air we heard all the ruckus from the kitchen and hallway. Since we visited in February we had pretty cool and comfortable weather, I can’t imagine what it’d be like in the summer months since there’s no air conditioning or fans in the room. A fan is pretty basic and would have made our stay more comfortable, even in a cooler month. Lastly, the mattress felt old and uncomfortable.

We were told breakfast was available from 8am-10am. On the last day of our stay we asked about breakfast and we were told no breakfast today.

Thankfully we had no issues leaving our bags again after checkout so we could spend a little more time taking in the city.

Overall the staff were friendly and helpful (though not bilingual as was advertised on hotels.com). Location really couldn’t be better. But, the rooms could use some updating and a deep cleaning. If I had a friend visiting Salento I’d probably recommend a different place.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights after reading significant numbers of negative comments about the Plantation House - the only hostel which seems to feature on most of the websites, and does admittedly have its own very good website.

We found Hostal Posada del Angel mentioned on one website and phoned to make a reservation, which was completely hassle-free.

The hostel is located about 20 steps away from the town's central square, where all the restaurants etc. are located. The owner/manager was helpful and kind, and made us feel at home. There's free coffee and drinking water whenever you want it, and use of the kitchen.

There's a small living room area with a fireplace and sofas and tables to sit at, and maybe half a dozen bedrooms scattered around the building - ours had a fantastic view out across the mountains (see the pics I'm about to upload) and was spacious, airy, clean, and had a good en-suite bathroom.

There was no one else staying in the hostel while we were there; we met quite a few people who'd been staying at Plantation House (and had complaints about it, broken beds, etc.), but Hostal Posada del Angel seems pretty much unknown and I'd recommend it 100%

Did 9 days in the coffee triangle last week. Had no reservations, just parked in the center, had beers and walked for hotels near the square. This small, well maintained hotel was in a perfect location. Had a rooftop terrace we relaxed and enjoyed evening cocktails. Rooms are small, but clean, with an excellent mountain view out the back for an awesome sunrise. Breakfast was ready when we asked, and was a just what we wanted. The best asset of the hotel was the manager Tovar. He spoke excellent english and was a wealth of knowledge. Insted of riding a jeep bumper way to early the next morning, he suggested the perfect time to arrive to give the fog time to lift, and drove us up in his personal car, which was a nice alternative to the cramped jeep ride. Although none of us expected it when we got there he actually went on the hike with us. The valley, the views, the palms were a magical location, but having Tovar to discuss the history, military, future of his country was priceless. He arranged a later checkout because he stayed in the valley with him so long. He even helped us with future days in the area. We had his personal number when he left and he even helped us with travel details and found us hotels in the bigger cities after we had left his property. Staff make a hotel for me, and he went beyond what is expected. I feel we have a new friend in Colombia, and I will return to this stunning area. Hope you visit me in Costa Rica, thanks for all your help.

Stayed here over Semana Santa, and am quite surprised by the reviews that other users have left. First of all, we decided to ring to book this hotel to ensure we could get one of the nicer rooms with a view. The receptionist agreed with us a better deal as we would be booking for 3 nights. The day before we went, they changed the room for a worse room, and increased the price! So, already we had quite a bad opinion of the hotel.
During our stay, whilst the hotel was in a perfect location and very close to the main square, we felt the hospitality to be average at best. There were no offers of helping us organise any tours or anything, and the service generally felt very awkward. Whats more, I had messaged beforehand to organise a special birthday surprise breakfast for my boyfriend, then the day before they rang to ask HIM if the breakfast was still on. Once we arrived, there was no apology for spoiling the surprise, nor did they even mention it to verify if we still wanted it or not.
So all in all, whilst the rooms are clean and the location is great, wouldn't go back to this hotel again.

As most of the reviewers agree this property is at the top of list for Salento. All good!
Best views in town, central plaza is steps away, updated bathrooms, great beds, nice size rooms, strong internet, lots of TV channels (even some English). And, on top of that, a very friendly and "go out of their way" staff of ladies to make your stay a super delight.

And all that at very modest pricing. We say several properties in town, this one is without question head and shoulders above most others...check this one out!

My husband and 9 month old son visited Salento december of 2013 and stayed at posada del angeles. The family running the posada is a very lovely husband and wife team with their son. They are located very close to the square, but with a nice view of the green coffee plains and the trees.
They are so welcoming, and eager to help out and make your stay pleasant. I had a hard time de iding where to stay in the coffee region, but im very happy i went with Salento and posado angel....it was a one of a kind, cultural and spiritual experience. After being in Medellin for a week, we were feeling sick from tge pollution and needed a break from the city. Salento was perfect, the air is so fresh and crisp and just so relaxing. We had really good sleep.
On our last day we had a medical emergency with my son during our stay and had to rush to the city hospital, it was very traumatic, but the owners of posada del angeles stepped up and helped us at the local hospital and found us transportation and accomodation to the city. They aided us in translation between the doctors, and even drove an hour out the next day to make sure we were ok at the childrens hospital. It is rare to have someone to go out of the way for strangers, but they did with the outmost genuine care - which i am forever greateful.

It was really great!!! The room are clean and big, the location is the best in salento!!! If you want to go eat something, drink You just need to go out, turn right and walk 50 meters to the main street! You got everything!!!
The owners of the place are very kind and help for anything you need! You can use the kitchen and there is a breakfast included!
My recommendation is to ask for the room with the view to the mountains! You Have a balcony with the best view that you can get in salento. This place is one of the best in Colombia!

This was one of the best budget hostels we stayed in the coffee region.
Clean, beautifully decorated and quiet. Gustavo, our fantastic host will definitely make you feel at home, giving you great tips on where to go, what to do, the best Finca to visit and hike to take.
Great value for money without the feel on many of the typical backpacker hostels you will find.
This is a finding!

A bit more expensive, but a bit better. The rooms are clean and you have your own little private balcony. I moved here after one night in Plantation House - a much better choice. Also a very nice breakfast is included. I recommend.
