Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

I loved my stay in Casa Salento so much. I was travelling solo and it was the first place I stayed on my first visit to Colombia and set such a high standard. The room was clean and despite having trees right outside my room there were no insects in the room. Jhon manages the hotel remotely and offered the most friendly and helpful service for which I was so grateful. He organised airport pickup for me, put me in their quietest room per my request, asked for honest feedback on my room, checked in with me several times during my stay, fixed a small issue I had with the room very quickly, suggested plenty of things for me to do in and around Salento, and even contacted the coach company for me when I lost my bag on a coach from Salento to Medellin. I felt so well looked after by the team at the hotel too, who were all really friendly and patient with me despite my poor Spanish language skills. Breakfast was great too, with good proportions and options. The breakfast/ communal area is also a nice space to meet other people, which I did. They also prepare a packed breakfast for tours if you give them a heads up the day before, and you can borrow rain boots for free if needed, which was a life saver for the Cocora Valley tour. The bus station and the office for booking tours was also super close (less than 5 mins walk). Overall, I would highly recommend Casa Salento to anyone travelling solo or with another person.

I stayed here for 3 nights and the location is great. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The location is close to the main square for far enough to avoid all the noise. The staff did everything they could to make my stay in Salento as enjoyable as possible.

This place is amazing! They're extremely nice and helpful and loaned us boots and ponchos (which we thankfully didn't need) for the hike to Cocora. The location is great, just a few blocks from the plaza and around the corner from an excellent vegetarian restaurant. Also convenient to Los Amigos, the tejo bar up the street. We got useful tips on restaurants and cafes, and they also organized airport pickup and drop off and were always very responsive to email. The room didn't have a lot of airflow, but the shutters blocked all light, which was great! Amazing value for the cost, which includes breakfast. And horses ride in the streets right in front of the balcony!

While this hotel was comfortable and clean, the decor suggested a 70s bachelor pad, complete with linoleum and crushed velour bedspreads. Breakfast was good but the breakfast area was dark and cramped. My favorite part was my little balcony. The hotel is close to the center of town.

During our stay was a construction site at the house. We were told in advance, that it could be loud during the day, and if we do not want to stay we can cancel the room. Fair enough but not necessary.

Every time we went back to the hotel after a tour Alvaro served us Café or juice. Special wishes for breakfast were also no problem.
We could also borrow boots and rain ponchos for our tours.
Muy amable, gracias!

John speaks very good english and gives lots of information about what you can do around, this was very helpful
We felt very welcome in this Hotel. Many thanks to both of you.
We can highly recommend to stay at Posada Casa Salento.

We stayed for 3 nights and absolutely adored it. The pros: John and his team - he is the only one who speaks English (very well), but everyone is very friendly and helpful! The shower is always hot and amazing. The breakfast on the balcony every morning is delightful. We took all of Johns recommendations for restaurants and activities and loved every minute of it! He even booked our bus to Medellin for us as well. The cons: street noise (seemingly common in every place we’ve stayed in Colombia). John gave us earplugs too - we heard no other hotel guests the entire time despite the hotel being quite busy! Only other con is no social area to meet other people, which didn’t bother us as we met other people along the way and were traveling in two!

Highly recommend this little gem (and in general the town of salento as it is truly a must see!). We miss it already!

We just finished a 3 night stay at the Posada Casa Salento and think it's the best place we've stayed at during our first three weeks in Columbia.
Key pluses:
Welcoming host (Alvaro), ✔
Warm water, ✔
Strong WI-fi, ✔
Secure parking for bicycles, ✔
Laundry service, ✔
Comfortable bed (with separate reading lights), ✔
Private terrace, ✔
Breakfast included, ✔

In addition to all of these things, after we we're checked in and settled, Alvaro handed us a binder, in English, of all sorts of things to do in and around Salento, including careful instructions (with pictures) on how to walk to the nearby coffee finca. His whole approach to hospitality is superb.

During our 3-night stay, we had 2 different rooms, both of them being nice. The non-English speaking staff, and by no English I mean not a single word, didn’t look very professional and wasn’t of much help.
As far as sleeping went: some other guests in the hotel were really loud (drunk?) during the night and no one did anything about it... and 2 roosters on the street will wake you up around 4.30am :-(

Everything! :-) The location is excellent. It’s only a short walk to the town centre where the restaurants and cafes are and far enough to have peace and quiet! Our room is clean and comfortable, beautiful and tastefully decorated. We loved it!! The staff is very friendly and warm, so lovely. The facilities and breakfast also amazing! Wifi is fast, was able to watch some of my Netflix favourites!! They even provided wellies/gum boots and raincoats/ponchos for the hike to Valle Del Cocora. Such an amazing stay! Our original 2 nights was extended to 4!! Really really happy with our stay! We highly recommend this place!!

I echo what many guests have stated. Great family run guesthouse. Reception service is excellent. If you want, you can get a 5-10 minute explanation of the things to do in town, suggesting walking routes for a mirador, and how to do the Cocora Valley hike. For free you can borrow ponchos and rain boots for the hike. There is also a book in several languages with pictures and a written description of the sites in town. Clean rooms, strong internet, only 2.5 blocks to the main square, 3 blocks from a cheap laundry that is open 7am-8pm, and 2 blocks to the meeting spot for a fantastic 3 hour horseback ride. Go to Brunch de Salento for a great bagged lunch for the Cocora day hike. Highly recommend you stay at Posada Casa Salento when in town.
