Casa Ana is a historic village house in the mountainous Alpujarra region of Andalucia. Once a family home, with a wine press, olive store, barns and a goat shed, the property was lovingly restored between 2005 and 2013. It provides comfortable, quiet accommodation with 8 en suite bedrooms, dining room, sitting room, a Moorish courtyard garden and several south-facing terraces. The style is simple and traditional - chestnut roof beams and terracotta floors - but with modern comforts, including underfloor central heating in winter and rain showers. At Casa Ana we provide delicious breakfasts using local produce - fresh oranges from village growers, local honey, eggs, bread, hams and olive oil. Picnic lunches are also available. The house is located in the mountain village of Ferreirola (population around 28), near Pitres. The village has fantastic views of the Trevelez river gorge, and is a wonderful base to go walking, explore the Sierra Nevada National Park, visit the traditional white villages of the Alpujarra or take a day trip to Granada or the Mediterranean beaches.

I stayed at Casa Ana for the creative writing improvisation course with Mandy Wheeler. The week surpassed all expectations. The course was well run with inspiring tuition and fun sessions. Ann and her team arranged everything perfectly from transfer from the airport to trips out. The Alhambra was an exceptional day, the beauty of the palace and gardens has stayed with me.
Casa Ana is in the quiet white village of Ferreirola with cobbled pathways and water fountains gushing out mountain spring water for drinking and has many places to walk to. It is a place that demands you to slow down and breathe.
Walking through the door into Casa Ana is like walking into another world - magical. A quiet garden terrace overlooking the mountain valley and silence. A shared lounge and kitchen with snacks and drinks available to buy and other balconies to sit and enjoy the view. Although not huge it was easy to find private space to relax. My room had an ensuite and was comfortable and clean, it was decorated in Spanish style with white walls and wooden beams and a shared balcony overlooking the valley.
The food cooked by a team of local chefs was very good and varied - so relaxing and lovely to have all meals provided in the dining room at Casa Ana with good packed lunches provided for day trips. Anne and her team are welcoming and friendly and we were well looked after. I cannot recommend Casa Ana highly enough. I carry a little of the place in me and I hope to return one day.

I spent a week on a writing retreat lead by Tom Bromley. I had a simple, comfortable bedroom with writing desk and shower room and my own front door with a view of the mountains. It was perfect for shutting myself off and focussing on the book I'd gone to work on. There is plenty else to do if you want a break, with hiking trails leading directly from the house and optional yoga. There were also optional reading/feedback sessions and writing prompts.
The food was fabulous and meals times a good opportunity to get to know other guests - which was easy because of the limited number. Tom was always happy to chat over meals as well as providing optional (and superbly insightful) mentoring sessions. I would highly recommend it to anyone no matter what stage they were at with their work or what kind of writing.

Casa Ana is a gorgeous, remote and relaxing place to stay in La Alpujarra with a 180 degree panorama of the hills from its terrace and the mornings full of the birdsong of blackbirds and golden orioles. I joined a small group yoga and walking holiday which was very well-led by Lisa and Jens who were sensitive to individual needs and created a very convivial and supportive atmosphere. The meals (largely vegetarian) were freshly prepared and delicious. I booked quite late and got the last room which was very small with a shared bathroom but all other 9 rooms are a decent size, many with views of the hills or the colourful garden. We were well looked after by manager Tinca and all the local staff were lovely. I don't think I could have found a nicer way to spend a week exploring this beautiful area.

Casa Ana is set in the beautiful mountains a little over an hour from Granda airport. I was there for a writer's retreat with the talanted Mary-Jane Holmes. My experience was excellent, from Emily who arranged all the details, to the chefs who prepared delicious and healthy meals, to Mary Jane whose critiques were so generous and thoughtful and to Anne whose graciousness sets the tone. I would definitely recommend Casa Ana for writing retreats or simply to enjoy the pleasure of nature walks, eating great food, meeting friendly locals, and visiting quaint villages.

Overall, the spacious and outdoor beauty of Casa Ana really helped me be productive by providing me with the uninterrupted space to write. This was my first residency and it got me into the disciplined mindset of rearranging my collection. MJ and our group session were also invaluable sources of support, inspiration, and insight.

This is our sixth trip and it was just as good as the first time - better perhaps as the people spoiling us are more like friends than staff. Our party of 4 joined 12 other fabulous people to walk, relax and enjoy fabulous food. The quality of the meals is stunning, the walks varied and the company of our fellow guests the icing on the cake. A day walking to Chris Stewart's farm where the family had laid on the most amazing array of food was the favourite for most people.

I attended a 10-day writing retreat at Casa Ana in Jan 2023. The grounds and rooms are lovely - situated in the Andalucian region of Spain. The food is divine - local produce made by talented cooks. Ann is a warm and attentive host. Daily walks/hikes in the Sierra Nevada mountains added to the experience. I didn't want to leave.

I had the good fortune to mentor a group of writers here for ten days. It was the perfect setting for creative writers to work independently but to also come together – voluntarily – for prompt and feedback sessions.

Delicious meals were all freshly prepared and served – the staff and service was great. Anne was a wonderful and friendly host.

As a mentor I was available for any questions the students had and some time for my own writing as well.

Highly recommended to anyone who'd like the time and space to focus on their craft. I'd return in a heartbeat.

This is a beautiful and peaceful place, with outstandingly friendly and helpful people, starting with Tinca but all the other staff included. Yoga and walking were guided by Lisa and Jens, equally outstanding yoga teachers and guides. Great food cooked by local people.
And a lovely bunch of like-minded people interested in yoga, walking and good food.

We are a couple who stayed at Casa Ana on our own (not with a group) for several days in May. There are a lot of differences between what other reviewers have said on TripAdvisor and/or what Casa Ana's beautiful website shows, versus what we experienced. Start with meals. We got a basic breakfast each morning with no food choices, and certainly no cooked food and no eggs, unlike some other reviewers. The website shows croissants and large glasses of orange juice but we got plain bread-rolls, not always fresh, and very small glasses of juice. We would have liked to have dinner at Casa Ana some of the evenings, but dinner was not being offered. We had to walk or drive to the next village (Mecina) each evening for dinner. Our bedroom was okay but very basic and lacking in character, with Ikea lighting and one Ikea armchair. It did however have 4 spiders and a goodly number of cobwebs. Although a photo on the website shows lovely bathroom amenities, our shower-room had nothing but a truly tiny bar of soap. I concur with other reviewers who've said the bedrooms really are only suitable as a place to sleep; certainly ours was not comfortable for sitting and relaxing. The communal lounge and the various terraces are available for this purpose, with good views but also with the Ikea furniture and lighting. We found the lounge particularly clinical and lacking in charm. It would have helped the ambience on the main terrace if the owner put out the chair cushions or lit the candle lanterns in the evenings but we had to do this ourselves. As other reviewers have noted, it is nice having the little communal kitchenette for making tea and coffee and using the honesty bar, so that part is good, but note the dishware is also Ikea. Overall, the best things for us were the friendly staff at breakfast, and the generous picnic lunches. But we think the Casa Ana website over-markets the place. For example the website doesn't say that you have to leave your car 200-300 metres away in the village car park and carry your luggage from there, or that Ferrierola has no shops or cafes whatsoever, that you must walk or drive to other villages for absolutely everything. Overall we felt let down.
