We happened upon the Alpujarras after reading ‘Driving Over Lemons’, and just had to get out there to experience it for ourselves! This was 5 years ago and we haven’t holidayed anywhere else since. We totally fell under its spell and have had the most immense fun experiencing the differing landscapes and accommodations on offer. We decided last year that... More

We stayed for six days in early October. The location is fantastic, with extraordinary walks that start from the house, or very near by car. The quality of the house itself is very high — facilities work and are spotlessly clean and well maintained. The owner is always looking to improve things, and was a mine of useful information and... Ludet the owner (mine host) greated us on arrival, shown our apartment and a full guided tour of the grounds and our very own garden area. Ludet took the time to draw maps of all the walks (the easy ones for us uphill and down again phew!) So quite and peaceful. Ludet will take as much time as needed to... More

We've now been to the area several times and stayed in a few different places, and this is the best there is. The owner Ludet is always on hand and keen to see that everything is to your liking, and with his advice we found several hikes that we would never have found on our own, or with any of... More

Staying at Cortijo Prado Toro was a highlight of our European trip. The owner would check with us every morning and ask where we were hiking that day; he would then suggest a trail that should not be missed. Every trail he recommended was such a beautiful blend of waterways, waterfalls, sunshine, wildflowers- and ibex. He would tell us of the... More

Beautifully located rustic two bedroom apartment above Pitres. Traditional wisteria draped building with slate roof, underfloor heating and local views from bedrooms and terrace. Very spacious and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Pool available but weather too inclement to test drive. Good walking from the door. Helpful host lives on site. Thoroughly recommended.

C.P.T. is located immediately adjacent to the GR-7 (an international trail), and is a delightful staging point for hikes over to Bubion and, if Bubion, then of course just about anywhere else in the vicinity. We stayed in the ground floor apartment, which I suppose is hoi polloi compared to the upstairs versions, but don't let that fend you off.... More

An absolutely awesome rural retreat in the high Alpajarras. Ideal for walking, exploring the mountains, and simply enjoying this beautiful area. The suite was first class, as was the service. It really exceeded expectations in every way.

We visited Cortijo Prado Toro in Sep 2015 - it was a wonderful experience. Peaceful, amazing views, beautiful architecture and a fabulous host. There are plenty of walks that can be done from the villa or from a short car journey into one of the surrounding white villages. The host is a charming character! He is welcoming, full of local... As one of a few very lovely places, this has to be one of the loveliest - fabulous for relaxation and recreation. This outstripped our expectations, even with the great description. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cortijo Prado Toro is situated in the Natural Park of the Alpujarras , on the southern slopes of the National Park of the Sierra Nevada, Spains highest and most dramatic mountain range in the province of Granada. The historic white villages of "La Taha" are within easy reach. The main town of the Taha, Pitres, is less than 10 min away by car. The Cortijo (country house) faces south, towards the Mediterranean, at an altitude of 1.450M, opening up breathtaking views of unspoiled natural countryside. On clear days even extending to the Rif mountains of North Africa. Cortijo Prado Toro is a delightful quiet place set amidst stunning country side. Hidden courtyards and patios provide sanctuaries of shade and greenery, whilst secluded terraced corners offer privacy in the sun. Weeping branches of mature willow trees form bowers of tranquility, and the gentle murmer of a spring or fountain never seems far away. Only birdsong or the muted clanging of distant goat bells is likely to disturb the silence of this quiet mountain retreat. The architecture of the buildings, designed and restaured with the help of "Donald Gray", an authority in traditional Andalusian architecture, is in the traditional Alpujarran style with much care taken on the detail. The individually designed and decorated apartments, all separated from eachother to provide absolute privacy , are all furnished to a high standard and combine simplicity and luxury with elegance of another era. ... more   less
