We stayed at the Ribera Bech apartments. The apartment was very clean and very well equiped. The resort is very, very quite with a small selection of bars and restaurants. We almost had the pool to ourselves most days, however you do have to provide your own sun loungers etc. The beach, which is a short walk away is very clean and the Mar Menor warm, calm and shallow, perfect for children. There are a very beach bars which serve up great snacks during the day.
The resort is a little isolated so we were glad to have hired a car. Lots to do in the area including all sorts of sports at the local La Manga club, scuba diving, sailing and Go Karting in Cabo de Palos which is only 10 minutes away in the car. This was the real Spain and not suitable if you are looking for a part style holiday

This is my second visit to these apartments and I have returned very relaxed from them both.
Mar de cristal it's self is very quite, with one excellent pizza resturant - however this closes on a Thursday from September.
The beach in Mar de cristal is lovely, very Spanish and the Mar Menor is warm and calm.
Close by is the La Manga club - for food try India a beautiful resturant with amazing views. Don't try Si (La Manga) service was awful and my Si pasta was very salty.
If you head for the strip you can either sun yourself next to the Med or the Mar menor just by crossing a road!
Ribera beach is a good set of apartments, the pool is nice you have to bring your own sun loungers though, the apartments are fresh and new - a home from home!

Stunning views and a beautiful sandy beach... Amazing sunsets. The Mar Menor is just outstandingly beautiful. There isn't much there to do except the beach, but that is worth it. Warm shallow sea to swim in. Good for water sports.

We stayed at an attic flat at Ribera Beach, in a town (but really just an urbanisation) called Mar de Cristal on the Mar Menor in Murcia, Southern Spain.
The flats are new and well-equipped and the Mar Menor is great for children. It's basically a huge lagoon, so the water is warm, shallow and very salty, making it perfect for small children and practicing watersports. It is also jellyfish free (they spent a lot of money to clean it up), which is a big plus in this area!
We particularly enjoyed the range of activities available, watersports- sailing, windsurfing and kayaking at Aqua Adicta down at the beach. Also horseriding at Rancho de la Fuente in the next town, Los Belones. We are not golfers, but the nearly La Manga club is a paradise for those who like that sport.
The beach was very quiet in September and we enjoyed meals at various restaurants and beach bars in this town and nearby Cabo de Palos.
The accommodation was great value for money and we were pleasantly surprised at how well presented it was. We were a bit miffed when we saw that the promised air-conditioning was non-existent, but honestly it was not a problem. There was a cool sea breeze at night, so we could sleep comfortably with windows open.
That was ok until day 5 (of 10), when a plague of flies descended from the newly fertilised nearby farmlands! And I mean plague, like biblical!
There were flies everywhere, so we couldn't barbecue on the roof or eat on the terrace or sleep with windows open....and we couldn't do anything in the flat without spraying and swatting for half an hour! So, while we loved the beach, we were quite glad to leave on day 10.
So, my advice would have to be: avoid this place like the plague in September!
Also, note- no deck chairs are provided at the pool. Some had been left around by other residents of the block, but when my husband sat on it one of them one day, he was verbally attacked by a stroppy Brit who appeared out of nowhere!...beware.

Great, clean beach. Sand is heavier than some beaches - makes great sandcastles! Good couple of beach bars. Water is warm and clear, have to walk out quite a way before you can swim. Very still shallow water. Life guards in main season

We rented a 2 bed penthouse apartment from a friend. We already new the resort would be quiet in September which suited us just fine. The apartment blocks are in a quiet location with plenty of parking, a pool, gated entrance - but just a 5 minute walk to the lovely beaches. The actual apartment was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Our only comment was that there was only 1 toilet roll! There was a small welcome pack with a cloth and 1 squirt of washing up liquid, a large bottle of water in the fridge and small shampoo, shower gel and soap.

In mid Sept the beaches were empty, there were no cars on the roads around the resort so it was bliss - only problem was places to eat were VERY limited. We had a car but didn't want to drive in the evenings. A taxi to the nearby village Los Belones (good restaurants) was 10 euros - approx 2 miles was a total rip off. There are 2 small Upper (used to be Spar) supermarkets in Mar de Cristal which were surprisingly well stocked. Carrefour near Cartagena (nice small city for a good day out) has everything. BBQ meat was good at the Upper at Cabo de Palos (think it was junction13 off the RM12).

Mar Menor Sea (Lagoon) was warm and very shallow, beaches were a shell sand and very clean. We had a drive up the La Manga strip, the beach on the Med side was vast, wide and I guess the length of the strip - 15 miles! A very powdery fine, white sand, and again in Sept pretty much empty even tho it was pushing 30 degrees ...

So all in all I would def recommend for a quiet and relaxing holiday at the end of the season in the sun. We stayed at La Managa Club for 2 nights at the end of the holiday - see sep review.
