Overall, the stay was enjoyable and satisfactory. We had a Deluxe Suite and it was spacious, but the housekeeping standard is quite poor. There are corners in the room that are dusty, and for 2 days, the drain in the bathroom wasn't cleared, and generally, the cleaning was perfunctory.

A few design fails: no soap dish for the hand soap at the basin (found out later that it's just in our room, as another friend had a soap dish), there is only one dustbin in the bathroom, and no dustbin in the room.

Pros: good AC, cable TV, nice pool, in-room safe, retractable clothesline in massive shower area for hanging wet swimsuits.

Cons: lax housekeeping, poor wifi (don't expect wifi in the room and even in the common areas, where it's supposed to be strongest, it's unstable)

The resort itself is in a lovely location with a small town just outside the front gate, where you can shop, eat and get all the pampering and massages you want.... But be careful booking your room.
There is a new area and an older area that is being renovated. The older area has the Superior and Terrace rooms. They are a good size but smell because of the water laying about and vegetation.
We asked to be moved but had to endure one night in the room, with the help of burning incense we bought. Eventually our travel agent from Oz got us a free upgrade. This was a little more difficult then we expected but it happened.
The food, grounds, pool was excellent and staff were great, although the staff other than reception need to learn more English.
A really great place if you just want to relax.
I wouldn't bother with the tours as the road infrastructure is terrible and you spend most of your day sitting in traffic.
Lombok itself is Bali 20 years ago, so not a lot there and I probably won,t go back.
You can the same experience in Thailand or Bali with a lot more options available

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Santosa during our 4 day visit to Senggigi. The overall experience was positive but there are some remarks to be done.

The location is really convenient if you arrive by fastboat from Bali, as the pool entrance is literally on the beach by the boat arrivals. The main entrance is on Senggigi’s main street, where all restaurants, bars, tour operators, supermarkets and shops are located.

The common areas of the hotel are really nice: the large pool comprises an in-pool bar and several children facilities (volleyball net, floating rings), the bars and restaurants are nice and comfortable.

Buffet breakfast is good and abundant, with Continental and Asian options. Breakfast boxes are also available if you leave early in the morning for excursions.
The staff is well trained and kind, and they are pretty fast in responding to requests and queries.

The hotel is quite old; while common areas have been refurbished, rooms have been clearly left behind.

We booked a Superior room and were unpleasantly surprised as we were taken to the big old concrete building where these rooms are located.
The room interior was also disappointing: wooden floors were damaged, the furniture was old, no carpets or bedspreads. The bathroom was really old and shabby. Only two towels were provided and on the second day bath supplies (shampoo, handsoap, etc) were not replaced. In no way the pictures reflect the real conditions of the room, which was more suitable to a backpacker accommodation than to a 4-star resort.

Eventually we complained about the room and got upgraded to a Deluxe room. That was still old, but definitely better than the standard one. The building was nicer, the room was in better conditions and the bathroom was newer and much better.
If you stay at the Santosa, I would definitely recommend to choose a Deluxe room.

Avoid the SPA: it’s located in a very old and dreary area of the hotel, the towels and linens look really old and used, the rooms are dark and untidy. The massage itself was not bad, but the overall experience was not pampering or relaxing.

Last but not least, WiFi is really bad: the reach is poor in the rooms and connection keeps falling all over the resort.

While travelling around Lombok, we saw many traditional Lombok-style accommodations (with charming bungalows in the nature) as well as newly-built luxury resorts and boutique hotels. If you are willing to give up walking distance from Senggigi’s main street, I think there are better options a bit further from the most commercial area.

I travelled to Lombok for my friends wedding. I originally planned to stay at Qunci Villas, but changed my mind when I heard about a deal at Santosa that was too good to be true, literally. The deal involved a confirmed upgrade to a deluxe suite with a pool. Even though Qunci had amazing reviews I went with Santosa as I have always wanted to stay somewhere with my own private pool.

My plane was delayed so we arrived in Lombok fairly late. When we finally got to Santosa the man at reception took an extraordinarily long time photocopying my passport and itinerary. When he returned both items he had torn off and retained the top page of my itinerary. I had to specifically ask for it back. It seemed really strange at the time, but made sense later when I got to my room.

After I was escorted to my room, I discovered that it didn't have a private pool. It also didn't have an additional bed for my daughter. I realised that front page of my itinerary had contained my confirmed booking details, and I can only assume the man at reception was trying to get rid of the evidence. I immediately returned to the reception with all of my luggage to demand the room I booked.

When I arrived back at reception they told me that the resort was overbooked without even a hint of an apology. I rebutted that I had booked and paid for my room 4 months ago, and it wasn't my fault that they had overbooked. They didn't seem to care and didn't offer any other solutions. I demanded to speak to a manager and had to wait around for him to come. By this stage I was missing the beginning of the wedding reception. I was incensed that they had not warned me about my room not being available and had just sent me to an inferior room hoping that I would be too stupid or shy to complain.

After extended altercations with the management I was able to secure the room I booked, but the altercations with management put a really bad taste in my mouth and totally voided any relaxation I had been hoping to achieve on the holiday.

The new room still didn't have a bed for my daughter, even though she was included on the booking. When I called housekeeping to ask for a bedding, they delivered a pillow case!

On the upside the deluxe suite with pool was amazing. The layout was very roomy and had great features. The only downside was the materials used in the build were visibly decaying which really brought down the appearance.

The free wifi didn't work in the rooms for the whole of our stay.

I quite enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the serving staff were all extremely pleasant.

I had been really looking forward to using the swim up bar, but that partially collapsed the day before we arrived and was out of action for our entire stay.

Lastly, there is insufficient pest control around the resort, two of my friends sited rats inside of their rooms.

Excited to stay at Intan in Sept 2005 as I had been there some years before and was impressed by its grounds and local design of the lobby. I was very dissapointed to find it extremely run down, the lawns were sparse and brown and termites were eating away our room which hadn't seen a good dusting for quite some time. The staff responded quickly to remove the large colourful gecko living in our bathroom, however I fear that it wasn't harmlessly released into a more suitable environment afterwards.
I tried to find a gin and tonic at one of the bars at 9:30 pm, an epic adventure which resulted in juice being delivered via room service at 10:45 pm.
Senggigi, once dreamt of as the 'New Bali' has become an empty town of broken dreams, with chickens literally living in hotels that were never completed. The sellers in the streets and on the beaches are desperate for sales and can make venturing out of the hotel grounds somewhat unpleasant.Lombok is AMAZING and DEFINATELY WORTH A VISIT, but Senggigi needs to look at how they are managing the tourism trade, or else the current trickle may dry up all together

Stayed here 2 nights with my bf, and we were totally dissapointed. First we were put in one room where aircon was not working properly, so we asked for room change, we moved to room next to us, aircon there was even worse, walls dirty and water coming out on our stuff. My bf the next day went to lobby to speak about room change again ( as there is new building as well, we hoped staff will move us there), but girl in reception said we need to pay extra fee for moving to new building (most funny is she said need to pay 1000k, after my bf said like u kiddin me, and then she added okay let it be 900k, she didnt even checked computer for room aviability or smth). Furniture ir rooms is from '90s, smells like at grannys home, sheets were with spots and the only thing was normal is bathroom (there was some facilities that need to be fixed, but still can be used). Pool need to be fixed, lot of tiles is missing, bar not working. Beach dirty with local warung and i didnt see any hotel facilities on the beach. I believe this place was best around like 15-20 years ago, but seriously guys, its time to change and fix furniture and facilities in here. I ordered chicken burger in room, it was worst burger ive ever ate. Our local friend told us that this hotel is about to bancrupt. First and last time we come here.

My boyfriend and I decided to stay in the Santosa Villas & Resort for our Christmas holiday in Lombok for 3 nights. We arrived there in the evening and found that they put us in a twin bedroom because the double room I had booked was full (we booked the room through Agoda.com 6 weeks in advance). I had to call to the front desk the next day and demand to be provided the double room I had booked. The front desk staff was a bit defensive but later after a short argument, they found a double room for us. What a disappointment. Both rooms were not worth the price I paid nor was the Santosa Villas worthy of a 4 star rating. The bedsheets and towels were old and frayed, Black mold was everywhere, the room smelled like a sewer, the tap water was dirty, the wifi didn't work, the room was full of mosquitos etc. In general, this room was unhealthy and wasn't proper to be a standard room as a 4 star hotel nor was it even proper to put any customer in this room as this part of the hotel was under renovation.. Instead of having another argument, i decided to write a complaint email and ask for compensation from the hotel and online hotel agency Agoda. A guy named Askar (eam@santosalombok.com) from the Santosa Villas replied with a very kind response and agreed to give me a refund of 50% as my compensation for the troubles and inconvenience. He asked me to give them my bank account detais to make the transfer so I did. I waited on the transfer, and, after 14 days and many unreturned emails, it finally happened. I have the receipt to validate the transaction date. Mr Askar was really testing my patience. I had to threaten him with going to the media.
I then received the receipt from Agoda (if Agoda had it why didnt they send me one?) and found that the 50% refund was short by a few hundred thousand rupiah. When i asked him about this, he replied arrogantly and challenged me to go to the media. So here I am suggesting that people beware and advise to not stay in this hotel. I am here to let the business owner realise that you should value your customers and treat them well. I am here to tell the agency to do their homework to inspect the hotel to ensure the photos provided actually represent the hotel they are selling. I am here to ask for anyone who may have been treated unfairly and/or who have experienced bad customer service, with any kind of business to speak up and know your rights. Please share this.

I visited Lombok only for three days, with my husband, my mother, and my two years old daughter and I decided to stay at Santosa after reading reviews @ tripadvisor. We stayed in two deluxe cottage rooms. They even gave me discount, I paid less than 100 USD for a room a night.
The reception: they had guests lining up in front of the reception desk. But they didn't keep me waiting. They allowed me to fill in registration document at lobby, with four glasses of delicious vegetable juice as welcome drink.
The hotel: Simply wide and green! Very refreshing atmosphere.
The room: it was GREAT! More than I expected. Clean and beautiful. And the bathroom was also good.
The facilities: they had great pool and nice water tube. We could use it for free. They also have several games but I didn't use it. The woman at spa service was very friendly too. And they had a boutique, selling souvenirs.
The food/restaurant: it was quite expensive, but they served large size. And I love their sunken bar! They also had nice snacks.
And when I called for reservation, they offered me a driver to pick us up from the airport and take us to the places we want to see. I agreed, and I thank God that I agreed! The man was very friendly, he showed us great places (he took us to Tanjung Aan and that was just stunning) and delicious restaurant with reasonable price. He got along very well with my daughter, too. Thanks, Santosa. You made my short trip very memorable.

January is quiet in Senggigi. I was upgraded to a larger room, which was nice.
The rooms are divided into small complexes within the beautiful gardens, so there was a feeling of privacy, also the rooms are set back about 150m from the beach.
Santosa will continue to get negative comments about room furniture until it is all updated, but I am sure that they are aware of that.
The rooms are spacious and clean, so that's all that matters to me. The wifi fluctuates a bit, but was not a problem.
If you are going to sit in your room watching TV and playing on mobile devices you may want to question why you are on holiday.
As the guest numbers are low the breakfasts change, on the first day here there were only about ten guests so the kitchen prepared a soft buffet with a selection from the main a la carte menu, as the guests increased we moved to a full buffet breakfast, lots of fruit, vegetables, breads and cakes, eggs to order, a small amount of meat but the selection changed each day.
The hotel is adjacent to one of the three Senggigi beaches, traditional fishing boats line this section of beach, if you get up early you will see them coming back to shore with there catch. The downside is that the beach is not the best for bathing, but a short walk either way leads to better beaches.
It is one of the best beaches for spectacular sunsets.
The hotel is also located very close to the main Senggigi bars and restaurant street with supermarkets, bike and car hire and local tours.
The hotel is Halal, which basically means they follow Muslim rules on food and drink, so no alcohol, but Indonesia is the world's biggest Muslim country, Lombok is a Muslim Island, so this is their culture, tradition and religion, I have no problem respecting that.
My drinks bill in the hotel is zero and if I want a Bintang I can get one from the local bar.

The Santosa beach resort was our choice location for a retreat this year and fell short on every level.

1. The rating of a four star hotel is a flat out lie. We are staying in the superior rooms and these are no where near the standards of what a four star hotel should be. Some little ticks include
- stained tea cups
- bath tub has chipped enamel resulting in black marks all over it
- shower does not have holder (it's broken but unfixed) and therefore have to hold and shower
- Seams of towels have frayed
- king sized bed sinks in the middle, pillows are lumpy
- aircon blows hot air. Have had it on for two days straight and my room still isn't cold

2. Service. Again on every level, fallen short. For a tourist hotel in a tourist heavy location almost 0 staff members speak English. I had to speak to 3 people before I successfully ordered a Diet Coke. I also requested for help to make a Spa reservation at another hotel and they told me that they couldn't help me with any reservations except those for restaurants and spas at the hotel. And honestly, why should I be utilising the spa after the cleanliness experienced in my room???

3. Food. I am warning all of you - do not eat the food here
- fruit is left out without ice WAY too long at breakfast and begins to get rancid
- BBQ at dinner; they never cook it. Went for the chicken four times and got raw chicken every single time
I have basically starved for all 2 days here and have had to sustain myself on the potato chips served as snacks. This isn't about my preference for food either - I have eaten all sorts of cuisine globally (even Indian street food) and have felt the most unsafe here

In general, will not be returning and I leave the rest of you warned. Other reviews seem to suggest an enjoyable stay at the VILLAS so perhaps the rooms booked were the issue.

You can make a request to the hotel for a complimentary pick up. Otherwise taxis are available from the Airport. Pls get into a licenced taxi and take a pic of the driver's licence no. which is available on the taxi. We had bad experience in Jakarta. Best is to request the hotel a pick-up, even if it's not complimentary.

Hi, hiring motorcycles or bikes is very easy, recommend Ananta (?) turn left from Santosa hotel, about 500m just before the police station. Lombok has got an excellent road network for a small island and there isn't much traffic, it's almost impossible to get lost because of the way the roads are linked. Most cars are manual, if you need automatic then you probably need to book in advance, you probably won't get GPS. You should be able to hire a car for 250-300k IDR per day, the rate often depends on how many days you have the car.
