The Avatar Railay Resort is something unique - a brand new boutique resort with a selection of different accommodations to suit every need. Materials, appliances, fittings and fixtures are not only top-specification but are also featured to be highly energy efficient. Furniture, furnishings, fabrics and décor are modern, stylish and pleasing to the eye, with imported hardwoods from America and Canada, colour schemes keyed to harmonious earth-tones, luxury spring mattresses and top quality Egyptian cotton bed linen, plus with a 40-inch flatscreen Samsung TV with USB input connected to international satellite channels in every room and suite. The location, on Railay Beach East is accessible only by boat. It's secluded and peaceful - no cars or motorbikes anywhere. And yet it's not totally isolated, having a short beachside strip of colourful bars and restaurants, with several 'mini-marts' plus a pharmacy and medical centre. Access to the mainland is quick and easy by means of water taxis which run continually throughout the day. However, our resort has its own boat deck, and hotel boats are available for guests at all times.

The hotel does not welcome children under 12 years old. Luckily they made and exception as the kids were almost 11. The rooms were large and there is a spacious balcony with a day bed outside. Overall, the room is rather basic but I did not have any major complaints. The air conditioning struggled to cope with the size of the room. The kids really enjoyed the pool. The hotel faces the mangroves and there is not much of a beach on the east side of Railay, Hence this hotel is good value. Its a short walk through the shops and bazaar to the west beaches of the Railay peninsula.

Pro: amazing modern and woodern room with lovely shower, and gigantic double bed!
Pro: Pool just amazing, perfect. We had a pool access room which was just to die for.
Pro: Evening guitarist/performer kept the place lively and took requests.
Pro: The room's AC is so powerful. It's amazing, it can be 35 degrees C outside and like 15C in the room.

Con: Staff attitudes were hit and miss. Some spoke bad english, others were quite rude i.e. not smiling and then others were very polite and said thank you a lot.
Con: Be aware of the mokeys! Monkeys in their natural habitat inhibit this part of Krabi and are known to come to the pool/room areas. Make sure you lock your pool access door when you leave the room or the monkeys will come inside!
Con: food was not good. I could only stomach it because I was very hungry. It's the main thing that lets the place down. The cocktails and the lasagne was very nice though.

Beautiful rooms. We loved our swimout room and enjoyed relaxing in the pool. The room was huge and very comfortable. The waterfall shower is amazing. Location was 5 mins walk from West Railay beach and close to lots of restaurants on the east side. The breakfast included is delicious - lots of options for everyone. They have live music in the restaurant at night, we didn’t eat there but enjoyed a drink. We bought a few drinks for the pool from the mini mart next door - 70 baht for a beer and kept cold in the mini fridge in the room!
Be careful of the moneys - they show up in the afternoon looking for food. They were not aggressive but also weren’t scared of humans. We went into the pool while they did their lap and made sure we didn’t leave anything out and kept door closed. We also noticed they don’t stick around your room if you leave the blinds shut.

We just spent 4 nights in this very nice hotel. The property and the rooms are very stylish like a five stars, but apart from the reception staff, the rest of the services is very poor. Lazy breakfast staff, they spent more time with their mobile phone and to put make on instead of refill the buffet display or clear and replace the dirty tables. If you go for breakfast around 10:00 am you’ll find only few items on the buffet because they do not refill it anymore even if the breakfast service close at 10:30 am.
Also housekeeping lacked since they forgot to make our room one day. We complained twice but nobody from the management gave back to us, they just sent a plate of fruit in our room.
The property is beautiful and very quiet and close to the Phra nang beach and the center of the village but they have to look after their staff and train theme to give a nicer service, this kind of property would deserve it.

Much like the most recent review of avatar - AVOID!!

The room we had was lovely, my partner very kindly reserved a lovely suite with a private pool however the loveliness ended there.
Whilst the room itself was good, there was a window that was broken and couldn’t be shut letting in mosquitoes and flies throughout the day and night.

The issues really began to show when the following morning after arriving we got up for sunrise and went to breakfast early. There was already NO FOOD. This became a theme throughout the 4 night stay turning dining into a competitive sport every morning. The food that was then placed in the buffet trays was cold (once every 20 minutes and ran out after 5).

We appreciate everyone is getting back into the swing of tourism after the last two years however, being made to feel resented is fairly inexcusable for a hotel. Often when asking politely for more food we either received a noise of acknowledgement, an exasperated stare, ignored or even lied to. The fact the kitchen staff and waitresses were actually spending more time chatting to neighbours or eating in the street only exacerbate the issue.

Sadly the maid service doesn’t come until late in the afternoon leaving you a bit in the lurches on when to vacant the premises. It is also important to note that the hotel does not or will not support you to arrange transfer to onward destinations.

All in all for the sheer cost of the hotel it was throughly disappointing. Railay is lovely but spend your money somewhere that will appreciate it like Ko Lanta or where you’ll get better value for an expensive stay!!

Unjustified high prices, upto 50% higher than other restaurants in the area.
Rude staff, I would never come back.
The restaurant is small, croided and they won’t let you smoke even outside. I strongly advise avoiding this place.

poor service with only one of staff working. if you asked for extra towels you will lose BF voucher next day, no bottles water for quests in regular room but only suite. I won't go back here again for sure. You can find similar service for less money with a fews minute walk

The Avatar is a beautiful property that is photo worthy in and of itself. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the rooms are a real bargain with spacious balconies overlooking a lovely pool area. The breakfast includes salad, fried eggs, chicken sausage, a Thai inspired rice or noodle, fresh fruit and usually a traditional Thai dish eg curry, krapow etc. Biggest pros would be value for money and beautiful atmosphere and the biggest con would be that the wifi is a bit unreliable. If you require wifi I would definitely get a Thai sim card, importantly before you reach Railay as they are unavailable, and use it as a hotspot for your laptop.

The rooms are ok, nice. We booked with the pool view and it was worth it. However, they advertise they have WiFi, but it does not work in the rooms. You can connect by the restaurant and if your room is close to the restaurant you will have WiFi. For me, I need to work during the stay and not having WiFi is a terrible experience 😣

We stayed a full week at Avatar and we enjoyed the rooms, the pool and the music in the evening! However, the service at the restaurant was very poor! After ordering drinks, they rarely came back to see if we wanted more! For breakfast, many times no coffee cups or plates, we had to ask. Quite often the servers were on their phones and not paying attention to the lack of plates or food! If you train the restaurant staff better this facility would be much better. It is also looking a little tired, needs some paint and some fix ups! We have stayed before at Sand Sea, Sunrise, Bhu Na Thani, Railay Princess Resort and this place was inferior to all of these, especially in service!!

Does anyone stayed in the suite with private pool? Is it worthy? Tks a lot
Answer from el_cap

I did not but could see the room from my balcony. The private pool looked nice. Not sure how much more it costs but you could also get the room on the 1st floor with direct pool access. The pool was never super busy when I stayed for a week in July, 2019. I never saw anyone using the private pool during my week stay.

Does anyone know if this property has a room that can accommodate three people (three beds!)? Thank you

I did see some Roll-out beds the one day so it should be possible our room would have been large enough for 3 beds. Best to inquire with the Hotel just to be 100 %

Yeah, I think it closed at 7pm. You might want to make sure there's water in the pool. When we were there in May it was only about 2 feet deep!

I haven't seen a private pool, if there is one. There is direct access from the rooms at the first floor to the big pool though, but the space's very limited, and the sun doesn't reach it.
