I loved my stay at Gilden Waves. I only stayed a week but it felt like I’ve been with long year friends and family ❤️ The atmosphere was great, the people made it so special and the house and dorms are so clean and bright 🥰 The surfing was so fun, Ricardo, Danny and Pedro were very careful and helpful teaching us how to surf. Also the yoga sessions with Jennifer were so relaxing (in the evening) and so energising in the morning 🧘🏽♀️ But I would love to have more vegan breakfast options, such as avocado / guacamole, soy yogurt and so on to make the stay even more perfect 🙏🏽 I really enjoyed my stay - thank you guys 🥰
Golden Waves Surf Lodge was so much more than I expected. It started as a fun girls trip and ended with tonnes of friendships and a place we will always remember. The surfing is a 5 star experience. Ricardo, Dany and Pedro are super caring about beginner surfers and they really want you to have a great time in the water. I am normally super scared of big waves and they made me feel like I am capable of almost anything. Then Yoga with Jennifer was 5 star as well! You can tell how much love and effort she puts into her classes. We enjoyed every minute during her yoga class! This place is truly magical. We were very sad to leave and our new found surf&yoga group will definitely return. Thank you again everyone for all that you do! It was a pleasure! Cheers!
One of the best holidays I have ever had! It was a magical place where you get to meet special people and surf your heart out. The rooms are super clean and they take good care of you. Gabriel comes to pick you up at Ovar station and from there on your amazing trip starts. I only did surf which was more than enough and as an absolute beginner I can proudly say that Ricardo and Dani taught me well enough that I can surf a wave (Even though it's just in the foam haha). They were amazing teachers who made it a full experience, tippies on the beach, bon fires, music, laughs and lots of surfing. I felt well taken care of and would love to come back some time. Absolutely the best surf camp ever.
I spent a week at GWSL in August 2021 and oh my -- I couldn't have wished for a better vacation. I booked surf and yoga package, and everything, from guidance at the classes, to the facilities and location was amazing, but most of all, PEOPLE! I'd like to personally thank everyone - Sergio for taking care of everything at the lodge, Veronica and Cat for the challenging yet fulfilling yoga practices, Ricardo and Pedro for their unceasing attention, fun attitude and gentleness with the absolute surf beginners. Their collective attitude made the lodge a special place during my stay, and I feel like I'll always have a little Portuguese saudade for the week I spent there. As for the facility itself, it is located in a very small but very nice village Furadouro, that has an amazing beach and a couple of very good fish restaurants (don't miss Casa Figueiras!). The lodge is 15 min walk from the main street and is basically in a pine forest. This forest-ocean air combination is great. The Ovar train station is a 10-min drive by car (the staff can pick you up or you can call a taxi for 7 euros), and from there you reach Porto on a regional train in an hour -- very convenient if you're travelling on a budget. I stayed in a 6-people dorm - very clean with comfortable beds. The only minor inconvenience was the bathroom -- it was outside the room, so other people could also drop in, which created queues. But everyone is so chilled out that it was not even an issue. :) The bathroom, as well as the floor in the dorm, was cleaned every day. The breakfast provided had pretty much everything, but you can always cook or eat your food in case you have any particular requests. The kitchen is very well-equipped, and we've had a couple of nice shared meals with the people who were staying at the lodge. As for the surf lessons, I was an absolute beginner and very scared, but I've received a ton of encouragement and advice from the instructors Ricardo and Pedro, and I managed! There was more to that than just practicing in the ocean -- the preparation, the ride in a sandy surf van, the music, everything! It was like being part of a big surf family, and they were the ones making this experience. The same could be said about yoga instructors Veronica and Cat. They make sure they know everyone's names and levels of practices, which creates this amazing collective vibe. Cat even gave us an amazing dance therapy practice. In conclusion, I believe that the good-hearted attitude of the founders attracts the right people. I've been particularly lucky to find on my arrival a great crowd, the kind of people you get along with instantly and become sad when they're leaving. And this was just the cherry on top. I'm very grateful to GWSL for this summer experience, and I will definitely come back.…
Being an absolute surfing novice, I was so surprised at the amount of guidance and support I received on our surfing days. The instructors were thorough and really made you understand and learn the technique. Not only this, they were encouraging, passionate and patient! Everybody got to experience the ocean and learned to tread the waves, no matter what level! The yoga sessions were gently challenging, and peaceful, it definitely helped prepare for the surfing. It's a fantastic retreat and programme, where you really get what you come for! The lodge itself was tidy, clean and a great place to socialise too.
