What a lovely stay - the rooms were very clean and just like the web photo's. Very comfortable beds and plenty of storage space. The meal on Sunday night was delicious and the breakfast excellent. Very friendly welcome . It was a shame we were only booked for one night - I've recommended The Black Dog to family and friends... More

We were staying nearby and felt that some of the local restaurants were taking advantage of their southern location with their prices. The Black Dog aims to be more competitive, a good menu with traditional "inn" food, freshly prepared, served by cheerful waitresses. Dog friendly locals and visitors in the bar, nice warm atmosphere in the room. Great value, would... More

Visited in October with the intention of meeting friends there for dinner all of us live in the East so are not local. Dinner was very good, hot and plentiful and the waitress was polite and efficient. Met the landlord as well who was equally pleasant. It was so good we revisited for dinner the next evening and it was just... More

Great place for families and children in particular, outside a great play area. The food is nice, homemade and tasty. The selection is a little dated but varied. The service was quite slow in terms of receiving food after ordering. 2 baguettes and a kids meal took far too long in our opinion, but maybe it was busy somewhere else... More

We visited the Black Dog for Sunday lunch. Nice big place with lots of outside seating and a lovely play area for kids. The inside decor was a bit bland but everywhere including the Ladies was bright and clean. I had the roast pork and it was a delicious plate of home cooked food. Other half had scampi and chips... Stayed one night with two rooms. Good bedding and kindly staff. Super breakfast and accommodating landlady with our small children. Only negative slight smoke smell in bedroom. If you are looking for peaceful setting this is not for you as on main road. Goodish value and no deposit required only card held in advance.

A really welcoming village pub with good quality food, friendly service and exceptional value for money. The sandwiches at lunch time are substantial, served on excellent bread with a nice salad and crisp accompaniment. A great place to stop just outside Dorchester.

There is a really nice beer garden and an excellent play frame for the kids to play on, it has been really well designed and you can keep an eye on them very easily. The food was disappointing, my lasagne was swimming in grease and no one in our group really enjoyed their meal.

Thank Sarah M
