Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were greeted with a very warm reception on arrival. However, not so warm on departure; the owner was hostile, unprofessional and rude. We wish we’d paid more attention to the reviews in advance of booking, as unfortunately the negative reviews ring very true, including the shabbiness, overflowing bins (close to pitches and drinking water tap) and overwhelming smell of sewage. We will definitely not be returning.

We booked this site for the last 4 days of our holiday as looked very quaint and had good reviews. I Met Mike on arrival who greeted us from the house and seemed very pleasant and helpful but I had to dodge the chicken faeces, on the path on my way in. we struggled to get our motor home through the the over grown bushes that hadn’t been trimmed though the entrances to the site field but managed to hook up on the hard standing pitch we booked which was grass with sprinkle of gravel thrown over it . We used the loos and shower facility’s which where grim and grimy with cobwebs and dead flys all over what could be lovely beams and ceilings and just a pure lack of uncleanliness .The weather hadn’t been kind to us that afternoon/evening which of course was no one’s fault but our pitch flooded so we were stepping out into 3 inch of water the following morning. we paid £33.50 for each night and were not provided with clean facility’s the lack of maintenance around the site is just a shame as it could be very nice . We spoke to liz and got a bunch of excuse including “it’s like this on the lizard” with a don’t care attitude this isn’t an excuse for uncleanliness and lack of maintaining a site you are charging guest to come and visit we asked for a refund for our remaining nights and received no response so we lost our money but didn't ruin the rest of our holiday by choosing to stay there .I would say there are lots of site that charge about the same but maintain and clean there facility’s to a better standard . It’s not a site we would ever return to but this area of Cornwall is beautiful

My husband and myself spent a wonderful week at this beautiful, quaint and quiet site celebrating our wedding anniversary a week before the school summer holidays. The owners were helpful and incredibly welcoming when we arrived. Everything was explained as to where all the facilities were. Booklets were readily available in the utility room including a free pack that contained vouchers for attractions nearby. The chickens and turkeys just added to the uniqueness of this gem of a site. The facilities available were perfect for campervans/campers. Perfect place if you want a nice quiet getaway. Would definitely recommend to family/friends and most certainly will return.

Owner lovely and welcoming. We received a welcome catalog with info on the area and an insert from the owner with local information and directions for walks etc. which was lovely however the directions weren’t very clear and we did end up getting lost on our walk. On arrival we were told we were on pitch 20. We booked an electric pitch but couldn’t find the electric box on or around the pitch. We wondered if we had been given the right pitch number by the owner. We went back to the check in area to find out and we’re told we were on pitch 20 but pitch 19 was the one with the electric box. We went back to the campsite to find the electric box. We found it on pitch 18. The pitch was too far away for our very long lead to reach. Nor did we like the idea of walking through other campers pitches to attach/ detach the lead. We were very tired from travelling and had already unhooked our caravan. We ended up settling in pitch 19 as it was closest to the box on 18. We settled in. The field we were in was very nice and private at the sides where the grass has been left to grow slightly to create individual pitches. The pitches were a large size. We did notice we had dog poo left on our pitch after driving through it unfortunately. We noticed there was dog poo left on several other pitches too. Didn’t seem that the site was checked by the owner after people check out. The bins had rotting food left on top of the lid which smelt quite badly. Again not checked while we were there. The area for animals was very nice chickens and turkeys with their babies. However you walked through this part for the toilets/ showers/ washing up area and there was a lot of chicken poo and dog poo again which was quite smelly on a warm day. The toilets weren’t clean and campers had left urine on the seat and floors. The showers felt dirty. Curly hairs left on the bench. Bird poo on the shower curtain and the curtain touched you while using the shower. Bird poo on the walls. Spiders and creepy crawleys everywhere and generally felt unclean. I felt I had to duck down because of the spider webs. Sinks were flirty and mirrors dirty. Plenty of signs telling campers to clean up the showers and toilets after using them. However it needed more than that. Needed a deep clean throughout the facilities. A mop bucket left in the shower block with filthy water it and signs telling us to mop of the floors of the showers after using them. I felt more dirty after showering than I did before. I didn’t want to put my wash bag or towel on the surfaces. I’ve been to similar campsites with the same barn type feel spaces used for toilet/ shower facilities and they had felt so much cleaner. Overall I think the site isn’t checked enough nor cleaned properly, if at all! The campsite did have a quirky cosy feel to it. Lovely area with lots to do and see. It is off a main road so limited to walk from the site and chose to drive to other areas and walk from there as didn’t fancy walking down a 60mph road with bends.

Thank you for such a warm welcome. Your site is truly lovely, catering well for all types of campers whilst maintaining a quaint rural Cornish experience. It was heart warming to see the chick's wandering about and the shepherd's hut so full of character. A 40 min walk to Kynance cove, easy to find yet hidden away...beautiful! The facilities are great, adult shower rooms with toilet, shower and hooks for hanging all and sundry. Enclosed areas for camper vans with hook up and plenty of room for the awning and bbq. Easy access taps with drinking water. Dog friendly for friendly dogs. I will definitely visit again.

Fabulous relaxing two weeks stay. This was a real gem of a find. We stayed in Cowshed cottage which was well equipped and comfortable. It is run by Liz and Mike who are very friendly and full of local knowledge. Nothing was too much trouble. This lovely place is quirky and charming. Chickens and Turkeys just roam around. Very quiet relaxing environment. Perfect for recharging your batteries.

Arrived at the site to stay for a week at Cowshed Holiday cottage. When Liz owner opened the patio door the smell really hit me! It smelt of dampness, mould and it was cold. Storage heater available but not enough for size of cottage. I then started looking around the cottage and it HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED. There were cob webs over the utensils and on the cups, sink smelt of sewers, fridge didn't work, microwave dirty, worktops not cleaned, kettle full of limescale, floor not swept or moped. Bedding smelt of mould and damp. I slept in my dressing gown with my own blankets from the car. Freezing! The bathroom was the nicest room. I moved the side unit to plug my charger in and a dead bird was behind it! After the first night I started coughing (previously had pnemonia) and asked for the dehumidifier. Absolutely shocked what I was given! I contacted friends who went and brought me one and delivered it. I only managed to stand the conditions for 4 nights. However, the location was a bonus and the outdoor garden was nice.

The campsite is small and has a homely feel to it with the pitches on the outside of the field and the centre for families and kids to play in. The facilities are a little too rustic for me, I do like modern toilets and shower blocks and these were outbuildings converted in to unisex showers and toilets. The showers provided good hot water which was plentiful but the shower cubicle was very small and the shower curtains kept clinging to me which was really quite off putting. The owners were pleasant, welcoming and helpful. My really only major gripe was the cockerels that started to crow at around 5am, which meant that if you are in a canvas tent you have little to no hope of sleeping through it. Sadly we have all come back from our holiday a lot more tired than we should have. I think warning of the cockerel would have been nice on booking.

Owner Liz very friendly. Arrival received a great welcome with information leaflets. This site is in between two main roads so is noisy. Not something we like. The rubbish bins were overflowing and messy. The bottom corner near toilets & wash up area was smelly. Facilities well im sorry to say needed a good jet wash with disinfectant. I get they are situated in barn /shed type buildings but the amount of cobwebs, bugs, debris & grime build up was i feel a accumulation over time and can be managed better. We have visited a few sites like this set up and they have been immaculate. The toilet steps for little ones were filthy. Mop & buckets outside also dirty with water not changed regularly. If your going to have shower curtains take them down regularly, wash and rotate them. The wooden boards for your feet were absolutely disgusting. Picked one up to clean after use and it was slimy. I get not everyone cleans after they have used facilities but im sorry deep cleans are a must. Frosted window need a blind. Hedges and pitch boarders messy. I get the wild approach but feel this has just allowed for another job to slip. Could be lovely with maintenance and wild seed replanting. We did feel a bit tucked in with neighbour's being close. Finish on a positive. There was always hand soap and toilet roll available. For us we would not return. But wish Liz all the best.
