When we arrived there was first confusion over what type of rooms we had booked. We had booked a standard double and a family room and it was the family room that although had been allocated appeared to be by more luck than judgement, as the sofa bed in the room had not been prepared. When we tried to put the sofa bed down there was not enough room as it hit the mini fridge. We thought we would wait for the staff to sort this out and when we returned later they had moved the fridge to another position in the room. In our opinion this room should not be classed as a family room if you have to move the fridge around to make the bed fit!! Both rooms were small and looked tired and in need of an update, with the carpet in the double room looking slightly thread bear and the wall paper around the sockets being scuffed. There was also a pillow case that had been left in the double room from the previous booking and half a pint of opened milk left in the fridge in the family room, so it does raise the question on how well the rooms are cleaned and checked. The Hotel was being used for a wedding the next day and during the late evening around 10.45pm you could hear the tables and chairs being dragged across the floor which penetrated through the upstairs rooms. Breakfast was a buffet of cereal, pastries and fruit and a cooked selection of your choice from the menu. All in all in our opinion the hotel was expensive for the overall average quality.

The overall experience was very good. Idyllic location in the heart of the medieval (small) town. Very friendly staff. Comfortable accommodation. Good restaurant. However, the ancient building comes with its downsides: the rooms are on the small side and the WiFi was severely hampered by the thick walls.

We spent four nights at the Oak House, the property has been through some recent renovations, but the physical limitations of an older property still show in the room layouts. We had some issues with housekeeping during our stay, but the staff were apologetic and did their best to fix the issues as far as they were able. I do think that the room rates are a little pushy for the standard of the property, but I think they reflect the desire for people not to travel overseas this year, i.e. market based pricing. What is not acceptable in this day and age is no adequate Wi-Fi, you just expect it to work, it never did and I racked up a large data bill on my phone to get the daily newspaper on my iPad! The plus sides of the hotel are the location and the fact that the staff were helpful and willing to acknowledge some shortcomings. The issues we had were also reflected in a discount on our rate so overall we would rate the hotel as willing to listen, but some way to go to get to the standard of the best.

Arrived room was being made up so offered tea while we waited. The room was excellent, clean, top class shower ,comfy bed. Manageress checked that everything was ok which many places don't bother with these days. Breakfast was cooked well with noticeably quality ingredients, no spar bacon here. Dog was welcomed and we ate in another pleasant room so as not to disturb others. Checkout was swift and efficient.
