I spent 7 magical nights at Zuri and loved every second. The private beach and lush gardens are breathtakingly beautiful and I spent most of my days relaxing under the palm trees, sipping coconuts and cocktails from their extensive bar menu. This is the part of the island where you want to be for picturesque beaches. The resort boasts 3 restaurants so you will not run out of food options and every night they have entertainment on the beach. If you want to venture out, you can take a 15min walk to many restaurants and bars. Every staff member I encountered was delightful and eager to help. My room was luxurious and spacious. I would highly recommend a visit.

The staff was very hospitable and every staff member I encountered were delightful and eager to help.

Last year, David, the prior GM who made the opening, introduced ZURI here in this amazing resort. Our experience is definitely above expectation. The wood suites with traditional Western African roofs are
sorrounded by lush vegetation, comprising palms, banana trees and ibiscus. The roof covers also the external terrace with parquet floor directly accessible through two big sliding glass doors. An hammock and two roof colonial fans is awaiting for you to enjoy the ocean view. See my photos. Spacious modern bathroom with separate bathtube and shower. The taps are all friendly. There is an external shower and a private jacuzzi in the jungle, visible from the terrace. The living room has an high roof and two fans with a powerful air conditioning system. Beside the regular frigidaire, there is a separate wine cellar. The electric appliances, like water boiler or TV screens (2) have been hidden with aesthetic camouflage and intelligent solutions. The bed room has good litterie and pillows. It ha gotten also a sophisticated air conditioning system which we recommend to disactivate, being too effective. The service is efficient with smiling, providing evidences that training is performed regularly and effectively. Boeing the resort located in a slope, from the main entrance-reception to the beach, the personnel must have strong calf muscles. The beach is very large with a private part for VIP. The guards are very effective to keep non- resident away. The pool is heated with a large area for bedchairs and a stunning view of the ocean. In the 3 restaurants the quality of food is very high and kept constant during our staying (15 days). ZURI has definitely set a benchmark in the island and we believe it will be very hard to overcome.

This hotel is a true luxury in all it's forms. But the kind of luxury that still feels very personalized and unique to you. While every detail in this hotel is beyond excellent from being located in the best location on the island, to the design, cleanness, to the luxurious rooms you get to stay in, it really is the very personalized experience that makes staying here feels like you have made the best choice! However, the staff of this hotel are the true treasure;

They say it's the people that give any place a real soul, no matter how amazing the place is and Zuri doesn't fall short of that.

The best staff that will feel like family after the first day, an INCREDIBLE chef that takes you on a magical fine dinning journey everyday with the different dishes and cuisines served (I seriously looked forward to what I will be having every night for dinner) but the highlight for me was an amazing man called "Romany" who is the F&B manager but his role definitely didn't stop there. He is the one who made us feel right at home, went above and beyond to make sure that any of our crazy requirements are met and he just NEVER stops smiling, although I see him working more than 12 hours a day!

Don't forget to ask for him, he will make your stay better, I promise! xx

This has to be one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The whole experience was just fantastic, right from the front gate through to the beach lounge area. Romany, F&B Manager - a special thank you for him, and the remaing staff who made great efforts to ensure everyone felt happy and safe during this unprsetented time  (hand sanitisers everywhere), which was a relief as this was my first trip during the pandemic.

As for the Food, they offered great selection, both at the buffet for breakfast and lunch themed dinners as well as lunch at the restaurant by the pool. Recommend getting the all inclusive so you get lunch + alcohol.
Room Villas are very well designed and elegant with thoughtful elements throughout, from electric sockets within reach of the bed, nightlights, cooling options, and a wonderfully comfy bed with air conditioning. I wish I had that at home🙂. The bedtime service each day was amazing and a lovely touch where they dim the lights, put the mosquito nets down and leave water by the bed.

The resort itself is huge and take time to walk around the little paths between the different villas, it is so green and lush. They do have a spa on site, I didn't get to use it. And they do have a yoga center which charges for classes, but they did have one free class on one day so I did that, so nice!
They have infinity pool over looking the beach - amazing view,  with enough deepth for an amazing swim.

As for the beach, it is gorgeous with lots of palm trees and well-spaced loungers. There is a bar down there who will bring you lunch and drinks. Attentive staff, and security guards at the edge of the beach who keep the basket and trinket vendors away. Great place to spend the day.

Perhaps we were expecting too much, given the rave reviews here and our outstanding experience at the other 3 properties we had stayed at in Tanzania before ending our trip with a week at the Zuri. I will start with the positives, which echo most of the other reviews here: the beach is stunning, the property is very stylish and the staff are charming and eager to please. On the downside, we were very disappointed with our room, which admittedly at 600 dollars a night is the cheapest option. It shares a terrace with the room next door which made us feel uncomfortable. I noticed other reviewers have criticised the complete lack of privacy. It would be reasonably simple I imagine to build some kind of (retractable) screen between the two rooms. We asked to move but were told it would cost an extra 6,000 dollars, which simply wasn’t an option for us. Other design features seem poorly thought out. The hammock had been so tightly secured it didn’t swing or move at all (this was remedied with a call to maintenance, who to their credit responded quickly). The heavy metal rings used to hold back the mosquito nets are cunningly positioned so that you bang your head against them every. Single. Time. you get out of bed. The outdoor bathtub sounds like a charming idea but as it is positioned underneath a tree it is constantly filled with debris and insects and therefore unappealing (even to someone who loves her bathtub as much as I do). Finally, the food is underwhelming. The quality of meat and vegetables is very high and everything has been very well cooked and executed but somehow uninspiring. On an island world famous for its spices, I feel the food could be so much more interesting. We are, however, looking forward to getting our spice fix at the curry night tomorrow. There is a heavy armed security presence on the beach - not something we are used to so it makes us feel uneasy about what perils may be lurking. In summary, as an add-on to a safari this promises to be a relaxing break, but for a beach holiday in this price bracket there are other destinations we would choose over this one - Asia (the Datai in Langkawi for example), Mauritius or the Seychelles to name but a few.

Responded 4 Mar 2020
Dear Lindsay, Thank you very much for taking the time and sharing your feedback with us. I am happy to hear about your satisfaction with the Zuri beach, the property itself and our employees. At the same time, we would like to respond to your detailed observations. The bungalow category you booked with us was confirmed as a “family unit” stating a shared terrace. Although it is clearly stated within the booking process, we still make sure to highlight this fact in the after booking communication package you’ve received via email. At the same time, we were keen on respecting your wish to change your room type, unfortunately, the only category left available was our Three Bedroom Luxury Villa at a signigicantly higher rate. I hope that the additional separation wall we have provided for you upon your request was welcomed and now you have the privacy required. The bungalows are surrounded by lush gardens maintained by our team of gardeners, which in case of outside bathtubs can naturally cause the leaves to get into the tub. We asked the housekeeping team to take extra care to clean the outdoor bathtub for you daily. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more cleaning to be done so you can enjoy one of the best parts of these units, according to our guests. I am sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the lack of inspiration with the meals, despite your high-quality rating. I hope you have a chance of trying our brand new concept at the Maisha pool restaurant suitable for both vegetarians/vegans and meat/seafood lovers and creating this balance with mostly local produce and local spices. I will be happy to book a table for you. Regarding the “heavy armed security” note, I would like to mention that our security does not possess firearms of any kind. The security of our guests is one of the highest priority of ours, and I find two to three security members guarding 300meters long beach as a sufficient, yet not disturbing volume. We believe that every destination has a different story to tell. We are proud to be part of the one on Zanzibar and we truly hope you will one day return to this beautiful island again. Enjoy the rest of your stay with us. Kind regards, Petr Kratochvil General Manager

My partner and I stayed a week in Zuri as part of a delayed honeymoon and we had the most amazing time.
From a Covid point of view, the staff all wore masks and gloves, temperatures were checked on every entry in the compound and from what I understand they have made changes to the way they clean rooms to ensure the highest standard of safety and cleanliness.
Despite these changes to their usual service every single member of staff from the managers to the bar staff to the Masai guards on the beach made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after.
It is difficult to pick out just one highlight of our stay in Zuri; the lunch on the beach, the sunset drinks, delicious food or the spice garden tour.
Zuri went out of their way to make our honeymoon special and it is a stay we will never forget.

We spent our Honeymoon at Zuri, what a beautiful resort. We stayed in a garden view room which I recommend if you're looking for a peaceful getaway. The breakfast was good and evening meals were lovely, varying in cuisine every evening, alternating between buffet & set menu. The pool service was great, Evangelina, our hostess was so incredibly friendly & attentive. Lunch times were disappointing, the service was so so so slow, one day in particular we waited for over one hour for our food, just some simple fried rice. Each day the service was poor in the lunch restaurant, for both food & drink. As part of our honeymoon package, we were supposed to receive a complimentary bottle of prosecco & romantic room decoration as part of our package, neither of which we received!
We did however have sundowners on the beach and a nice private seafood lunch which was also part of this package.

Dear Guest, Happy New Year greetings and thank you very much for the wonderful feedback of your honeymoon. Let me sincerely apologize for your lunch service to have been slow one particular day. That should not have happened and we will continue to monitor our standard consistency with such help as your reviews. As a honeymooners your complimentary bottle of wine should have been in the room upon arrival as a standard. It would really have been helpful if you would have mentioned this at the reception desk or any manager during your stay. Please accept my sincere apologies.

I cannot recommend ZURI enough! Everything from the service, room, and food choice to the pool, beach, and bar was truly five-star!

We chose the bungalow with a sea view and were completely blown away by the stunning interior and views the room has to offer.

Our booking included breakfast and dinner at the resort - the al la carte menu was extremely delicious and we highly rated the selection of food offered at the breakfast and dinner buffet!

The resort offers a stunning infinity pool, immaculate beach, and spectacular sunset views. We spent our nights sat on the beach enjoying the great entertainment that was offered.

I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious stay in Zanzibar!

Thank you to the amazing team for making our trip special.

We stayed in a one bedroom jacuzzi villa tucked away in a secluded jungle-like environment just off Kendwa beach. My sister and her family along with another close family friend took standard rooms.

The reservation was done through staff in the Czech Republic, who interacted well online. It wasn’t easy to get a room even with a few weeks advance notice as there are a limited number of rooms and the resort is in high demand.

The architectural materials used were high quality and modern in design. Exceptional design.

The staff was kind, helpful and caring. We arrived early at 6 am and were given a room for early checkin. There are not many people at this self contained resort, so all our dining was at the restaurants on the resort. The food was good except that attempts to create Chinese or Indian dishes at the buffet restaurant were at best average. Perhaps the chef to stick with a traditional menu and one perhaps centered on some local specialities.

We played beach volleyball and were joined by two staff members - Kevin and Issa - who played with us and made our game a lot of fun and memorable. My son, nephew and niece loved this interaction. The beach has white sand and the water was mildly cool (August is winter), but refreshing. There was always someone approaching you at the pool or beach for service. Wonderful hospitable and welcoming engagement.

There’s a beautiful spice garden with exotic plants and trees with occasional benches and seating areas for you to lounge in a tropical forest like setting should you wish not to stay on tue beach.

Although expensive and difficult to secure a room when we visited, I would highly recommend Zuri as perhaps the best place to stay in Zanzibar.

Zuri had everything I could want in a resort. A beautiful swim-able beach, which was patrolled by 2 guards to keep away from anyone selling tours or other merchandise which I really appreciated as it’s hard to relax with constant interruptions.
The food was phenomenal. I actually preferred the buffet to to the a la carte which is unusual for me but it’s a very clean buffet where the staff serves the food versus all the guests poking around in it. The surf and turf night was my favorite for really fresh grilled seafood. Although the drinks were pricey for Zanzibar, they are more like craft cocktails and are a double serving in size.

The best part, though, was the amazing staff. They were so genuinely kind and accommodating that it really stood out from any other place I have anywhere in the world. I can’t thank them enough, I felt so at home.

One criticism I would offer is unless the staff actually wants to wear the masks (which I have no idea either did not have that specific discussion with any of them) let the masks go. Honestly, it serves no purposes especially outside. It just seems like some silly effort to say you have “COVID regulations”. Everything on the resort is outside in open air making it impossible to catch COVID not to mention face shields and surgical masks don’t offer any real protection even indoors. It’s a lot of unnecessary theater and would have made my stay better not to have to see it.

Evening Sunset cruise looks great... from the Beach. It's very noisy with constant drumming onboard as they sail past. We preferred watching the Sunset from the Beach of an evening, with the large bean bags, cushions and sofas around a central beach fire. It is near the Beach bar serving great cocktails and snack platters whilst you either have music from a DJ or a live band / singers. It's a great atmosphere as they sail past whilst the Sun is setting, but we personally didn't fancy being onboard with the level of noise.

I can’t answer this as we haven’t had an all inclusive package . What I understood is that the drinks in your room bar are included . That is what I read in the welcome letter in the room . But I doubt it is at the bar !
