good reception. Servie with nice lad serving hef apprentice at colledge. I ordered beef rare, and it was as requested. Wife who has alzheimers and eats very little I asked for one slice of lamb and one potato plus a little veg. Sweet was profiteroles. o.k. Wine as usual no French, had Rioja. O.k. My partner and I stumbled upon this delightfully quaint village inn purely by mistake,my partner thought he had booked the star inn..........we are so glad that he hadn't. We just love the swan with it's pretty rooms, wonky floors, noisy pluming and an old fashion bar that is like stepping back in time.Little touches in the room, like home baked biscuits...

Stayed here for 2 nights while in the area for a wedding. The room and shower were good (it's not a luxury hotel but it met my expectations). The breakfast was good (cooked breakfast, tea and coffee made to order, + cereals and juice). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Wifi was fine (ask for the code when you...

The decor and furnishings are shabby and tired. Despite our table having been booked some days previously the pub was very cold. Neither the fire or heaters were switched on. Many of the items on the menu were not available. The salad starter dressing was drowned in vinegar. When the main meals were served the food was cold. We will...

The idea of a night in a pub instead of a hotel appealed to me even though it was a little further from where I was eventually going. I arrived late afternoon and was warmly greeted by David and shown to my rather quant room with unusual angles of the floor and walls. The menu that evening was simple but...

Our walking group ordered from a limited lunch menu. However what was on offer was good quality, great value for money and served with a smile! I had 2 thick slices of ham, 2 eggs and a good quantity of proper chips. Not one of the 24 who stayed for lunch had a complaint. Now that's a success for our...

Went there at 1.10pm on Wednesday lunchtime. Closed! Checked on website before we went, not a word about it not being open. Was obviously a wasted journey. Was a shame as my sister and I were taking our mother out for lunch and we had been recommended this pub.

A friend and I stumbled upon this wonderful pub whilst en-route to Dunmow. The bar maid was incredibly welcoming and friendly and had a good knowledge of the beers and drinks available. We were not eating but from what I saw, the food looked really good. I will certainly be returning to try the food for myself. The building has...

We arrived , it was closed - it should remain so. It's dirty, tired and shabby throughout. Our mistake was having paid in advance , not cutting our losses and leaving. Truly aweful. My initial review was too short to be published, so here goes with some detail:After finding the owner, at the house next door, you climb up a...

A great tradition British Pub serving good quality wine, ales and lagers. A very friendly lady on the bar who made us feel very welcome. A beautiful location and pretty building. We had already eaten but the food looked great so will be returning to give it a try. Nice to see a quality individual Pub, not run by a...
