Where to start... wow! I brought 66 people here for a club annual dinner, which was full capacity, and everyone absolutely loved it. What a fantastic and unique place to stay. Linda was absolutely fantastic at helping to organise the weekend, including the medieval banquet, castle tours and local ale kegs. Chris and the other staff (sorry, I don't remember... More

I booked ahead since I had wanted to stay at this castle. I wasn't disappointed: sturdy stone walls, even across one entire side of the bedroom.which also had a huge window looking on to trees. Interesting people - we all chatted since it's a quiet time of year. A beautiful and atmospheric location too with a garden and outside benches... More

We are pleased that the wait was worth it for you! We agree that the rooms are full of character, with authentic walls and original features dating back hundreds of years. Sadly the Grade 1 listed nature of the building is very restrictive and it limits the scope for modernisation. We will regrettably never be able to offer en-suite rooms... More

I rented the building out for a ghost hunt. The staff were friendly and the 3 course medieval banquet, complete with entertainment from the 'jester' was brilliant. There are lots of rooms to choose from, but as a ghost hunt, i would recommend the , prison, constables room and chaplains room as they was the most active. From footsteps to... More

We always love to hear what activity paranormal investigations have experienced as this varies from group to group. It is interesting that the Guard/Hanging and State Apartment rooms appear to have been quiet for you on this occasion when both rooms have produced some lively results this year on other nights; including recently the fire alarm activating the moment the... Perfect in every way. Booked to stay for two nights , but stayed an extra night to go on the tour. If I could have stayed longer I would have done. The manager and staff were so friendly and helpful. Thank you to you all.

We never tire of sharing the amazing history of our Castle with our guests, so we are really pleased that you were able to stay long enough to join us on a Castle tour. We hope to welcome you back again in the future maybe for a Medieval Banquet next time if not enjoyed on this occasion? More

Stayed here on my way to North Wales after a tour of Bath with 3 of my friends. This hostel in an old castle is an awesome idea. I really enjoyed the stay in the prison room reading carvings from prisoners from the 1700s. The people running the hostel are lovely, The nearby pub was lovely. The facilities are clean... More

Thank you for choosing to break your journey with a visit to our Castle. The Prison is my favourite room due to the physical link to the poor souls who spent time locked up, possibly dreaming of escape or freedom. Particularly moving is the curse and lament in one of the windows. Who etched the windmills and were they are... More

Booked to stay for two nights , but stayed an extra night. If I could have stayed longer I would have done. The manager and staff were so friendly. They could not do enough to make my stay at the youth hostel a pleasant one. The beds are really comfy and the food was wonderful. How many people can say... More

I really enjoyed staying here, great stuff and decent food is available from the Hostel. At first I was a little worried that I had the entire 14 bunk room to myself in the top of the tower. But I slept great without any disturbance. Well worth a stay, great for families and kids or simple for anyone that just... More

Well done for braving a night on your own in one of our characterful rooms! There are many tales of the paranormal associated with a lot of our rooms but thankfully you have not added to them but rather had a good night of sleep instead. We hope to welcome you back again soon. More

Friendly staff, fascinating building and wonderful surrounding area. It's a youth hostel, not a hotel, so you can't expect hotel facilities but the atmosphere is so much friendlier and more welcoming than you would ever get from a Holiday Inn or Travelodge, not to mention the excitement for the children of staying in a real castle (although I have to... Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are really pleased that you and your family enjoyed your visit to the Castle and that you felt welcomed and at home here. We do normally recommend anyone sleeping in the Oubliette to do the tour on their morning of departure for that very reason! More

We stayed at this castle as part of a holiday in the south of England. It is fair to say it is dated in the public rooms, which do not go with the surroundings at all, with basic facilities provided. It does need a good clean in the corridors and bathrooms, stonework is exposed in some areas and joins between... More

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that you were disappointed with aspects of your visit to the Castle. As a Grade 1 listed site this hostel is indeed basic as we are unable to make any new alterations to the fabric of the building. However what you sacrifice in modern facilities (small rooms and en-suites) you trade... More

We visited as a family of four for two nights. The children were so excited to stay in a real castle and our room was up old stone steps in the east tower! Plenty of room for the four of us and toilets and showers were just at the bottom of the stairs. These were new and worked well. The... More

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Well done on completing the treasure hunt. You should now all be experts on our handy hiding places, but perhaps next visit we will play Cluedo with you and see if you can find all the secret clues to discover "whodunit" in our Medieval mystery! We look forward to welcoming you again soon. More
