We came here as a group of 9 adults and 2 children as we were staying the weekend at a local farm house. We came for Sunday lunch and booked ahead. On every occasion the staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was exactly what we needed: delicious, comforting and very fresh. The Eton Mess deserves a special mention as it was delicious and a fresh take with ice cream included. They were very child friendly - high chairs were provided - and the children’s menu was good and they were very accommodating. If we are ever in the area again, we will be sure to pay The Star Inn another visit.
We were looking for somewhere to stay close to Portsmouth that was in the country and The Star Inn fitted the bill perfectly. We were warmly greeted on our arrival and shown to our room in a separate building next to the pub. The room and furnishings had just been re done by an interior designer and were very good. Television reception was rather sporadic and the bathroom is awaiting the same upgrade treatment. We had a gorgeous view from our window overlooking the village cricket pitch and countryside. Mobile reception is non existent but there is free wifi. We were impressed that there was a blazing fire in the pub and we took our evening meal in the restaurant which had also had the attention of an interior designer as it was very smart and well appointed. we enjoyed our dinner which was served promptly. After dinner we found the manager and bar staff very chatty and had a very enjoyable evening. The owners only recently acquired the Star Inn and are obviously spending a lot to improve the decor and its facilities. Before moving on we planned a five mile circular level walk from the car park which we really enjoyed. We noticed It is disabled friendly as the accommodation is on the ground floor and the car park, pub & restaurant are all on one level. (One of of the proprietors was temporarily in a wheel chair because of a foot operation and was buzzing around the premises in the morning)…
We walked from our rented holiday cottage in Lockerley, down the road to have dinner at The Star Inn and I'm so glad we decided to do so! The staff were friendly and attentive and set the balance just right between allowing us to enjoy our evening and engaging us in little bits of conversation. We both had the sirloin steak, which was one of the best we've had; absolutely delicious. We'll definitely come back when we're next in the area. Thank you :)
Traveling around for a few days found this little gem. Room very clean, comfy bed and all you can want. The pub has a warm feel and great staff to welcome you. The food was great, ate in both nights and a choice of English fry up or continental in the morning setting you up for the day. I’d definitely recommend staying here and also eating here and will be back again.
We stayed for one night whilst attending a wedding nearby. The room had been recently refurbished to a high standard and cleanliness was excellent. Bed huge and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we didn't get the chance to spend any time in the pub, it looked welcoming and cheerful.
