I booked Thurnham Hall because I found an offer (always the one for a bargain). It stated the offers were on because there was building work going on across the drive way up to the Hall. We stayed in a double apartment. It was huge!!! The bath was beautiful and the kitchen was delightful. We had everything we needed for... More

We booked a 2BR apartment for two people. Booking was online and included wifi and the gym/pool. We did not use the latter as we arrived late and left well before sun-up. We chose this establishment as a 2BR apartment was less expensive than two comparable rooms at area hotels. The Hall is lovely. Our self-catering apartment was very large... More

This is a lovely combination of self catering cottages with the facilities of a hotel. The cottages were comfortably and stylishly furnished with all the equipment you might need. We stayed in a 2 bed - very spacious. The pool, sauna and steam room was much appreciated and enjoyed by the kids. The main house with the bar by the... More

We stayed for 3 nights during the October half term week. This place is great with top class facilities in the old hall setting. Everything was clean and as hoped for. Staff were really helpful. The self-catering accommodation had everything we needed and our suite was in the old hall so was close to the bar and restaurant whose prices... More

A lovely rural location but easy to get to loads of places. Very clean, well laid out apartments with everything you needed and extras like coffee for a coffee machine. Only downside was Wi fi in this day and age in this class of hotel you have to pay extra. Also the Swimming Pool is extra and if you are... More

The accommodation is excellent. The location is also excellent. The problem that I have with them is that I stayed there as a guest, with the room being paid for as a gift from my children who were unaware that this is a Diamond Resort. My wife and I are members. On 25th September 201,6 as we checked out, we... More

We stayed for two nights and both my wife and i said we will be returning. We paid under £80 for the two night stay and i consider that an absolute bargain. An ancient country house surrounded by free standing buildings offering a selection of two storey apartments or free standing bungalow houses, this is marketed as a “resort”, but should more properly considered self catering accomodation. Rooms (effectively self contained flatlets) are large, with separate well equipped kitchen and large bathroom. Rooms are clean on arrival, well appointed, and serviced at... More

Hi, I just wondered if you actually stayed at the same Thurnham Hall as me, and my family! We go once a year to Thurnham for a week long holiday, usually around Christmas time, but these days, always in the winter. We go in the winter as there really is nothing better than sitting in the 'Great Hall' in front of the gorgeous and atmospheric enormous log fire. There is a welcoming bar in the Hall, which hardly ever gets noisy (except for the occasional times when they are having a Christmas firm's do in the library next door, or a wedding reception), and it is very much in keeping with the rest of house. This means that you can snuggle up in one of their comfy armchairs, with your favourite book, and your tipple of choice (red wine for me, followed by a cup of coffee), and chat to other guests if you like, or just hunker down, on your own, or with your family (one recommendation that I would make, is that if you have children, particularly youngsters, you may prefer to holiday in another Diamond Resort, particularly "Pine Lake", North of Lancaster, - it is nearer the lake district, but as you are not far from the M6 at either place, it doesn't take long to get to the lakes anyway, - Pine Lake is at Carnforth, {of Brief Encounter fame} and is more set up for young children, with a good indoor play area, especially for them, plus the usual swimming pool, playground, ducks! etc). Once or twice a week, in the Hall, there is a pianist, and it is lovely to sit back, whilst feeling toasty warm in front of the fire, and listen to the lovely music he plays. I cannot imagine what room, or apartment, that you were staying in, as I have never come across accommodation here that is not only very comfortable, but also extremely clean (whether in Britain, or abroad, the Diamond Resorts that we have stayed at have always been immaculately clean). At Thurnham we have stayed in an apartment directly above the Great Hall, which was of course very in keeping with the style of hotel that Thurnham Hall is, on another occasion we stayed in a small, but gorgeous one bedroom cottage, attached to the main building, which was very cosy. These days we have to stay in the modern, and extremely high standard apartments that are elsewhere on the site, as i am now wheelchair bound, but the standard is so high, that I wouldnt mind living in that apartment all of the time! You also mentioned the toilets, I presume you mean the ones in the mansion house itself? I can only imagine that you only like modern furniture and surroundings, as the said toilets are quaint and in character with the whole house, I don't feel old when I use them, just more like I have stepped back in time, to a gentler era. Our holiday to Thurnham, is our indulgent, doing nothing but the three 'R's (relaxing, resting and reading, in this case) activities. Of course we do venture out occassionally, as the scenery is lovely, and Lancaster itself is a very interesting small county town, but we love returning to that lovely Great Hall room, and as we often stay there near Christmas time, we unwind in front of the twinkling lights of the big Christmas Tree. Thurnham Hall gets 5 stars from me, and in case you are wondering, I am a genuine guest, and not an employee! I am very sorry though, that you didn't find the magic in the place that we do, maybe action and adventure holidays are of more interest to you, I could easily recommend other Diamond Resort hotels to you, for those sort of holidays, if you are interested.
