Sophie and Jose welcomed us to their home in a very warm hearted way. A fabulous, large old country house on the edge of a very peaceful, rural village. We met the only child still living at home and despite her young age she was natural and friendly. They have a lovely garden and a large area where you can sit out and enjoy a drink and read. It is very quiet. Sophie has decorated the house with great style and flare using lots of neutral coloured paints and fabrics as her background. There is some great antique furniture, masses of decorative items and books and objets d'art adorn shelves and walls and they are good talking points as many are of interest.

We had a lovely bedroom with a great, very modern bathroom. Everything beautifully clean and a large window with a nice view of the garden.

We chose Manoir les Arums as a staging post on a week-long cycle tour, there seemed to be a shortage of guest houses and small hotels in the vicinity but it looked OK from the online description and when we arrived ahead of schedule, with the owners out, it appeared to be a stunning rural manor house from the outside - this encouraged us to hope for good things.

After a while, the owners returned and their teenage daughter showed us in, a model of good service, and took us to the garden where we met the owners and their three basset hounds. Very friendly welcome, we were introduced to another couple who had just arrived (the only others staying - there are only three guest rooms) and went to our good-sized, well provided room to shower and dress for dinner.

As with other chambres d'hôte we have stayed in, the owners prepare a meal for the guests who all eat together around the family table. Jose and Sophie were good hosts - she is an amazing cook and was not at all...
