I stayed in the Grainstore room for a night on a DB&B deal. The room was large and spotless. I had dinner in the pub and it was excellent. The menu was great county fare with a focus on traditional and game dishes. Whilst reading the menu I had a pint of Cooking (great beer) and some of the home made pork scratchings in front of the open fire, leafing through The Field. The home-cured smokehouse charcuterie starter was excellent and well complemented by the home-made bread. The main course was a rack of hogget, a timeless classic - perfectly cooked and presented with fresh vegetables. I'm from Cumbria and I know my sheepmeat, this was excellent and cooked by someone who understands the dish. Quality ingredients cooked well. Breakfast was great with possibly the best black pudding I've had in years. I would recommend it unreservedly and will definitely be back as a regular.

For a lovely pub with a roaring open fire and an extensive and above average priced menu I would expect a much higher class of service! Things that require more attention: 1/ No serving spoons with the Chips or Vegetables. 2/ Wine arrived without being shown bottle to see if happy with choice - bottle not prepared or opened, instead just plonked on the table. 3/ No wine glasses on table and had to ask for glasses - only given 2 glasses for 3 of us, although the wife had a glass already it was a different wine ordered by the glass. 4/ We were asked if we wanted desserts and given menus but waited 20 minutes before being asked what we wanted. 5/ Asked if we wanted teas or coffees as she was closing down the machine; it wasn’t late so we felt rushed and declined. 6/ Numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes on the Menu, eg: Bisbrooke has an “e” not Bisbrook as listed in the specials menu, ie: Bisbrooke Hall Fallow Deer; Rasberry should be Raspberry on the Gin Menu by the bar. 7/ Re: photograph in restaurant of the flour mill at Whissendine, it is not Leicester, it’s in RUTLAND!

Good selection of beers, authentic old world pub, staff courteous apart from kitchen staff. Ordered fish and chips, fish was over cooked and dry, batter bitter and slightly burnt. Home made tartar sauce could have done with a little more horse radish, homemade tomato sauce was very nice. Pub wasn't busy maybe because it was a thursday lunch or it could be down to the kitchen staff making rude comments from the kitchen window. Don't know why they did this as we didn't make a complaint at all or they just prefer a certain type of clientèle , who knows. Ignorance can cost a business a lot of money.

Visited this pub a few times over the years, but every time we go back they reaffirm why I think it’s one of the best pubs around. Nice atmosphere, just stylish enough to make it a pleasure to be in without being pretentious. Great with kids (well behaved ones), the way a good pub should be, in fact more pubs should take a leaf from this one but sadly this will never happen. I noticed two people left a bad review on this pub, I think their reviews must say more about them than this great place. Keep the faith kings arms, we’ll be back again soon!
