The Control Tower on the former RAF North Creake Airfield is a unique vegetarian B&B. Its history is fascinating - originally built in 1943 to command 199 and 171 Squadrons take-offs and landings. These were part of The 100 Group of Bomber Command and their mission was to carry out secret radio counter measures. The Tower has had many uses since then, now it is transformed into a special place to stay in the bustling agricultural hamlet of Egmere, just 3 miles south of Wells-next-the-Sea. After three years, our labour of love is complete. The exterior has been returned to its iconic landmark modernist look and we have filled the interior with beautiful art deco fixtures and furniture to ensure your stay will be comfortable and relaxing.

What a treat a stay at The Control Tower is! We stayed in the Signals Room for the first time and owing to the limitations imposed by the high standards of CoVID-safety we had the Breakfast Room/Lounge to ourselves as well. We love the Art Deco style and the clever use of stylish modern accessories where needed which complement the look.
Breakfasts are delicious and beautifully presented on vintage Woods Ware. We were set up for the day. After dinner at a local pub recommended by our hosts we could relax with a book in the lounge and finish the wine brought back so the driver could have some.
The weather was kind so we could sit in the garden and watch Nigel working! The location is ideal for exploring the area. We plan to stay longer next time.

Spent the weekend here. The vegan options for breakfast were lovely and a great start to the day, especially the apples in cinnamon mmmm. Everything in the B&B was of a high quality, i.e. the toiletries, breakfast food and drinks etc. Loved having no television, just a radio and games, I rekindled by love of Cribbage. The bathroom was awesome, I could have lived in there but just remember it's vintage so don't expect everything to be spotless as old things get worn out (in a good way).

This gorgeous venue just goes from strength to strength. My wife and I have been staying here for the past nine years to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my birthday.
Claire and Nigel are the perfect hosts. You are made welcome as soon as you enter the door with great rooms to choose from with their period fittings and you are fed so well with a fabulous vegetarian breakfast each morning. Well cooked delicious local produce. Really sets you up for the day for local exploring.
Sited on the main road to Wells-next-the-Sea just three miles away, it’s the ideal location to explore the local area and indeed North Norfolk with miles of country lanes with their villages and great pubs in most of them.
WW2 history buffs will love this place, being on a former RAF bomber base. Claire and Nigel have done extensive digging into the airfield’s short but very distinguished past. A tour is available and can be booked to tell of the history. The local memorial to the crews lost was of Claire and Nigel’s doing and looks fabulous.
There is a lovely garden and summer house to enjoy especially after a long day out and about. I cannot recommend this place high enough. How about 6/5

My partner and I visited from Norwich for his 50th birthday and both being extremely interested in in this period of history, staying in an WW2 Control Tower, what's not to like!
Nigel and Claire, the owners have done an absolutely wonderful job, bringing this control tower back to life. Very comfortable, superb vegetarian breakfast, greated with a very warm welcome, a log fire, a pot of coffee and some really tasty biscuits on a cold January to afternoon.
The room, attention to detail, the Art Deco features, pictures and display of memorabilia in an the hallway, truly make this a living piece of our rich wartime and social history.
We had a very to relaxing in stay and both sad to to leave. Cannot wait to go back, well worth a visit 😊

So good to be able to return to this B&B, just a shame that the C19 nonsense should have galvanised us into action. After the traffic horror of the coastal road it was a great relief to turn off the road and see the Control Tower and be offered a welcome cup of tea.
We have been here a few times before and we are always impressed at Nigel and Claire’s devotion to the property, but also the history of the place. The new memorial is testament to this
We were very happy with the arrangements. Nigel braving the storm to deliver breakfast was above and beyond the call of duty.
We are looking forward to our next visit, out of the holiday season.

We had a weekend here in the Signals room.
The attention to period detail in every room is wonderful and there is a real sense of history to the Control Tower. The veggie breakfast was incredibly good - and as well as the fry-up with slow cooked toms, mushrooms, eggs, beans, potatoes and fried bread, there was some of the nicest local apple juice I've tasted. The period bathroom suite was so deep and comfortable. Nigel and Claire are great hosts and I really enjoyed talking to them about the history of the control tower.

Seven years ago we stayed at the control tower when we got married in Norwich and we’ve been back every year since. It always provides us with the most perfect time away and we love it more each time we visit. We are always welcomed with a smile and a hug and a very gratefully received pot of tea and cake whilst we have a catch up. We always stay in the beautiful Sterling suite and as soon as we walk in our bodies relax and minds switch off from the stresses of daily life. For a room to do this you know you’ve found somewhere special. For a start there’s the comfortable long sofa (which can also fold out into a bed) to sit with the doors open watching the birds flit by outside. Choose a book to read from the full bookcase or a jigsaw or board game. There’s the best bath you will ever experience in the stunning art deco bathroom. The most comfortable bed for your best nights sleep. In the morning Nigel delivers an incredible breakfast (he’s never seen without a cravat or cardigan - the most stylish person ever who will bring you your breakfast!) and the most delicious mushrooms you will ever taste. Everything is sourced locally too. The control tower itself has been lovingly restored by two people with a great passion for keeping history alive and it never disappoints. Do take the control tower tour if you can, it’s a great way to get a real sense of the history of where you are staying. Finally this is the most wonderful place to stay and completely relax and unwind (as we do) or go and explore the plentiful amazing places nearby. A true piece of history that you can feel and soak up.

Our family was the first to stay once the Control Tower reopened after the COVID-19 lockdown. It was a lovely visit and Claire and Nigel were very welcoming hosts. The whole place is authentically restored up to a high standard. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfasts were the best. Everything we wanted was in easy reach - Holkham, Burnham, Wells and Houghton Hall. Definately recommended and we felt very safe in these unsafe times.

We've just had a two night stay at The Control Tower vegetarian B & B and can't wait to visit again😄
The Stirling Suite was fabulous, as were the hosts Claire and Nigel. Tea and coffee on arrival was a lovely start, nothing was too much trouble.
We let them know we're vegan and they provided some delicious options.
Breakfast is delivered to the Stirling Suite which provides a unique experience, a week earlier it could of been in the garden in the sunshine.
We started with local granola, with vegan milk or yoghurt, I opted for the full English and my gf had banana pancakes both days. Both were delicious and set us up for the day. The vegan oat biscuits provided a welcome snack later in the day. Lovely!
The Control Tower is a unique part of history and I regret not doing the guided tour, I'll definitely do that next time! The place is filled with unique furniture and items from the period, old fashioned puzzles and books are brilliant and I'll spend more time checking these out next time.

Proud to be a Frequent Flyer at this fabulous unique B&B. Just enjoyed our 3rd stay in six months and boy, is it worth the 300 mile round trip! The Control Tower is perfect for a special occasion but sometimes the special occasion is a stay at the Control Tower! Visit 1 in February was our 20th Wedding Anniversary when we cosied up for a few days in the beautiful Stirling Suite. Then a Tower Takeover in May with six-like minded friends. Made even more special by a wonderful “Dining-In” night with a three course meal prepared by Claire who also cooks the fantastic vegetarian breakfasts. And last but not least a D-Day at 80 commemorative visit which coincided with the 10th anniversary of welcoming guests to the Control Tower. We attended a delightful Afternoon Tea in the garden marquee with live jazz from “Up the Creake” to mark the launch of “Control Tower Calling” by Nigel Morter. We were sad to leave and are already planning our next trip! As well as being an ideal base to explore the area, the Control Tower is a tranquil snd comfortable place to relax and enjoy the comfortable rooms, peaceful guest dining/sitting room and lovely gardens.
