The island of Torcello with its historic church is about a half hour trip in a water taxi from Venice. The restaurant tables are set on terrace in a pretty garden. The food is delicious and service excellent. After all the bustle of Venice Torcello is an oasis of calm and a wonderful place to have lunch.

A ferry ride from Fondamente Nuove across the Lagoon and past the cemetery sets the appetite no end, and you arrive at the tiny historic original Venetian island. There are extensive restorations underway but even in winter the setting is rustic...

We visited Torcello a few years ago and enjoyed a perfect lunch in the garden of the Locanda. We promised ourselves there and then to return and stay one day and we spent three super days there last week. The Locanda is a small hotel with a big restaurant that caters for large numbers at lunchtime and is also a...
