Detailed Reviews
Everything exceeded our expectations. Excellent indoor and outdoor facilities with well-organised Covid procedures. High standards of cleanliness especially in public areas and this was over an extremely busy weekend period with extra customers due to excellent weather and England football screening. Oneway system through interior works well and table service works smoothly with attentive staff.
Creative, well-priced menu and excellent food, the Ham Hock terrine is an exceptional starter, I could have eaten it as a Main dish. Portion size is generous, our extra side dish of Asparagus and Samphire at £3.50 was a delicious meal in itself. We could not fault anything. Breakfast was exceptional too with an inventive choice of freshly cooked full English or Continental options. My choice of smoked salmon, scrambled egg and avocado was a brilliant combination. Breakfast staff were cheery, efficient and attentive, all in all the best start to any day. It’s just a minute’s stroll to the sea front and beautiful, wide, uncrowded beaches await. The walk along the beach to Cromer takes just one pleasurable hour,. There is nothing to dislike about the White Horse or Overstrand. Highly recommended, book early, it’s rightly very popular.

My husband and I had just had a lovely cliff top walk in a stunning little coastal village called Overstrand and literally stumbled on The White Horse as we passed by, we decided to stop for a wee impromptu drink. Post Covid safety was very well organised and all staff we encountered were super friendly and welcoming.
The interior and decor throughout was so pretty and attractive, we felt very relaxed as we sat inside the bar area having a drink (where our two miniature schnauzers were also made very welcome.
Nice outside seating areas to the front and rear decking and garden, it even had a little play area for the kids.
The menu looked SO good we were tempted to have a little nibble whilst there.
My husband had the welsh rarebit with chips (beautiful and crunchy Chips on the outside and fluffy inside). I went for the Thai crab cakes with Asian slaw and sticky chilli jam dip. Yum, yum, yum!
These were both off the starter menu and were great portion sizes, everything was very fresh and totally delicious.
The menu had lots of variety, so much so we’ll be planning another visit this holiday, to sample the main menu next time.
Really LOVED this place and I would highly recommend for food, drink, inside and outside space as well as really lovely staff who created a happy atmosphere and GREAT food.
PERFECT.

We hadnt visited Overstrand before, with the exception of Cromer (approx 2 miles away). Situated in a sleepy village beside the Post Office/Store and minutes walk from the sea front, we came for our one night stay a day after we booked. At first we werent sure where to park so we parked down the street adjacent to the hotel which was free of charge however here is a paying carpark round the corner. We grabbed a few drinks at the bar before checking in and also a platter to keep us going till dinner.
The staff were friendly throughout and one showed us to our room where we were greeted by a good sized bedroom. It was fairly clean but the bedsheet did have a small stain on, the shower cubicle very small and it couldve benefited with a fan through the hot day however, it was pleasant and we slept fairly well. Breakfast was really filling, a good portion and presented well. We have recommended The White Horse to parents

my husband myself and dog stayed 3rd January we said we needed breakfast early and said toast and tea would be fine. when we came down at 7.30am no one about all doors locked we left and when I rang them later that day they said the lady who should have been there was dealing with a family emergency and did not arrive until after we had left. I was not very happy that we had not had breakfast as I take medication that has to be taken with food so we left to travel to the nearest place that we could buy food which was Tesco at Stalham, then we made our appointment with only minutes to spare. When l rang the hotel later I said that we should not pay the full amount as we had not had breakfast and he told me that the breakfast was complimentary, and tried to tell me we had incurred a bar bill, I explained that due to staff incompetence we were put in the wrong room and we had to be swapped to a dog friendly room so the bill was not ours. Not a pleasant experience the stress of trying to find somewhere to buy food in a place you have never been to before was not good, so I do not recommend staying at this place, they have no compassion or remorse for the problem they caused.

Hello Jet614970, Thank you for your review. You decided to inform us of your need for an early breakfast the previous night, despite our breakfast being served between 8am & 10am we informed you that a member of staff would be on site so you could have hot drinks and cereals. Unfortunately, as you are aware that member of staff had to leave at 7.15am to go and deal with a family emergency. No one could have pre-empted this situation and both myself and my colleague have apologised too you numerous times during the phone conversations we had on Saturday. May I advise in future you should enquire about breakfast times at the time you book the room, especially due the importance of having food with medication. All our room rates include breakfast, there is no option to include it and we do not charge our guests any different should they not have breakfast with us. Once again, I apologise for this unfortunate situation. Regards Ben

The owners of this establishment are rarely in residence. Apparently, as a business as long as it pays its way, its considered OK. The assume that the volume of unsuspecting holiday makers at certain times of the year keeps this place viable. This bar has very little character mainly because the recent refurbishment and decor is of poor taste and inappropriate.
The front of house staff are polite but inexperienced. The kitchen staff lack the ability to cook some of the finer points of the menu, so consequently the food served is inconsistent. The philosophy of this place must be to charge above average prices to win customer confidence, which leaves many people disappointed with the real detail of the dish and its value. My advise if you have to eat here, is to stick to the basic menu choice like fish and chips, Burger & chips and ham egg & chips options, when available!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. As I am sure you have predicted, I disagree completely with many of the points you have brought up... So, let’s start from the beginning... This business is not treated on that basis, the owner is regularly here, and he is our biggest and most honest critic. During the past 18 months the pub has benefited from huge investment, directly from the owner, and we can now boast of a beautiful beer garden with children’s play equipment and a fully refurbished ground floor. Therefore, it is imperative that the business performs to its full potential. Contrary to popular belief, the winter months are just as important to us as the summer high season. Unlike many businesses of our nature we are open 365 days of the year, and we are very thankful of the local trade who continue to support us 12 months of the year. Therefore, it is important we get the pricing correct so we can keep both locals and holiday makers happy. We believe we offer good value for money and it is never our intention to mislead our customers by overcharging, the very suggestion seams absurd. How would our business survive 13 years if we had that mentality? The way your review reads it would lead me to believe you have eaten at the pub on several occasions, perhaps you have even given us the benefit of the doubt and given us a second chance after you have been disappointed, which is appreciated. If I am correct in my presumption then I would also presume that you know myself or one of my colleagues, if that is true I’m disappointed that you felt it necessary to leave an anonymous review, rather than speak to myself and address your concerns. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at the pub, if you require any more answers. Regards. Ben

Thank you to Lucie and all the staff at the White Horse.
We were made to feel so welcome even before we arrived, e. mail exchanges in difficult times so helpful and informative.
Try the amazing continental breakfast instead of a full English it’s delicious. Our only disappointment was, the restaurant was only serving bar meals (due to Covid) which were good, (excellent steak) but the best thing is we now have to go back to try the full menu.
The bar really is a local, and the locals were very friendly engaging visitors in conversation. Our dog liked it so much he took to laying under a table guarding the entrance pretending to own the place.
We will be going back.

We stayed for three nights are the White Horse pub. Our room was very comfortable with a sea view (over the rooftops). The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. We had an excellent breakfast each morning ( shame they ran out of black pudding on our last day!). We had a very enjoyable evening meal mussels, then Venison casserole and sea bass. No room for dessert! The covid restrictions were fine, any thing we wanted replenishing was provided each morning. We would certainly come again.

An old building in Overstrand, just outside Cromer in Norfolk, this hotel has recently been beautifully and tastefully restored with an overall Art Deco theme. It’s a 10-min walk from the fine-sand beach. Quiet and relaxing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast included English and Continental. Great value for money.

We had stayed at an upmarket North Norfolk hotel for a few days before heading home and decided at the last minute to stay overnight here at Overstrand. And what a great choice, especially with the inclusive breakfast (mine was ‘Continental’ - smoked salmon, roasted cherry tomatoes, avocado, spinach and poached egg, plus sauté potatoes if you wished). It far surpassed the previous upmarket hotel’s breakfast and I’ve certainly never had a Continental as good as that before!
Our room was a bit small and no view of the sea but given we had our dog with us and we booked literally at the last minute and it was pitch black when we arrived, we were satisfied. It was also nice to have free bottled water and hot chocolate and biscuits, the last two of which were missing from the upmarket hotel.
Finally, the staff were truly lovely and very helpful and the dinner and choice good too.

A nice country pub with rooms. We had a good sized room which was nicely furnished, nice toiletries and well stocked tea tray with really good biscuits !
The bed was the comfiest ever. Shame we couldn't get many channels on the TV. Breakfast was really good plenty of choice , highly recommend the full English. Our dog was allowed in the bar so we had breakfast there.
From the disability point of view sadly was not so good , level access into the bar but a step down into the reasturant, lots of stairs and steps up to the bedrooms, Anyone with mobility issues would struggle. Shame because it's a nice place.

thank you
Yes it has
We have not been recently, since my last post, but we found them very cheery and helpful in fact because my wife is in a wheelchair access can be a problem but the girls were moving tables and chairs to get us by the window as requested. So no problems from us and we enjoyed our meal.
