Most hospitable family I have ever met, so warm and welcoming. Jimmy built up an incredible mansion of a house in Lamai’s home village. You get to stay in a room with everything you could ever imagine- bathroom/shower, toilet paper, towels, AC, lots of pretty decorations everywhere. So many details. They even have stunning silk bed covers. Everyone seems to be a relative of Lamai and everyone treats you like family. Jimmy and Lamai take their visitors to meet different families, spreading awareness etc. Jimmy tirelessly tells you many incredible stories. This man puts in gigantic amounts of work behind the scenes to make you feel at home, and teach you about Thailand (as well as teach Thais about other cultures). We learned more about Thailand and Thai traditions and ways of life in 3 days with Jimmy than 10 days touring the rest of Thailand. Lamai is hands down the best cook. We are vegetarian and had no problem with them. Their kids are so fun to play with, and the family has so many animals that they take care of as pets. It’s very safe too. If you are fortunate to be in the area, don’t miss this incredible opportunity.

We just loved it at Lamai and Jimmy's place! Jimmy picked us up by the bus stop in Bua Yai. And we stayed for 3 nights - having trips to the market with Lamai, going hunting for scorpions and frogs in the rice field with grandma, seeing old temples and worship of traditional religion by the lake with the family, playing with the children, visiting the local village, school and silk fabric - and eating wonderful home cooked food :-) We felt like being part of a the family - and hope to come back again one day!

Our family of five spent two nights with Jimmy, Lamai and their three daughters in their home in Bua Yai. Their village is not a tourist village and the way they live is the real deal. We visited the local school and met the teachers and pupils, the local market, an 'alternative' temple and a silk village. Jimmy and Lamai were a great source of information and we felt that we gained a real insight into the country and the culture - from food (rotten fish and fried silk worms!) to local politics to the education system. Lamai's food was excellent and she very kindly catered for our dietary requirements at short notice. Jimmy is a great storyteller and it was a real pleasure to spend time with him and all his family. We look forward to returning in the future.

My first solo traveling experience far from home which included a 3 night stay with jimmy and lamai. I’d reached out rather last minute to see whether they were available to have me stay and I was very lucky to have been squeezed in for this wonderful experience! The hosts were very helpful from the initial email communications, telling me how to get there. I was a bit nervous about getting lost in the middle of nowhere and not being able to speak a word of Thai! I actually got there without any troubles, and jimmy arrived to collect me shortly afterwards. What I gained from this experience were interesting new perspectives on life in Issan. Jimmy and Lamai took it in turns to show me around the village, introducing me to the silk weaving villagers, and taking me to nearby temples and markets. I was super impressed by the house that was built from scratch in the village. It was kept squeaky clean and my bed was made every morning - it was rather like a hotel service which I wasn’t expecting! The little ones were a highlight of the stay also. I’m not very good with kids normally, but all 3 girls were really good natured, and a joy to be around. Lamai’s meals were also a highlight! Thanks a lot for being so accommodating and welcoming! As I said before, I feel like I’ve learnt a lot from this trip from speaking with both of you, and having been shown around your beautiful little village.

I can only say positive words. Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic. I was looking for a place to discover the true rural Thai life in Isaan. And I found it. Search no further. This is the place to be. I wish to go back immediately. It was three days of my life that I will never forget. I spent three days at Lamai Homestay in Isaan. A very friendly family with a warm home feeling. Jimmy, Lamai and their three daughters. The room and bathroom are very nice and clean and the food is very tasty, variable and plentiful. I booked the VILLAGE LIFE EXPERIENCE tour. Everything I wish I have seen, visited or done. Rice fields, Mushroom search, Farms, Silk farm and weaving, Local school, Local market, Rural villages, Farmers with buffalo or cows, Fish ponds etc. Everything is very close together with the family and the real local life. No tourist attraction, but contact with the true Isaan life. Everything is private and only for you and very relaxed and flexible. Jimmy is a man with a lot of life experience. With him, you can talk for hours on all subjects of life. Lamai, his wife has a very good knowledge of rural life, culture and nature. She shows and teaches me how to spot or catch animals, find mushrooms and recognize plants with their medicinal effects. Jimmy, Lamai and kids; Thank you very much for the three fantastiche days.

I spent 4 excellent nights solo with Lamai and Jimmy, with a main interest in the silk production. We visited various homes in the village and the communal workshop, and I particularly enjoyed watching the silk extraction process, meeting the (mostly) women at work (no English spoken but all very friendly!), and also seeing lots of examples of finished pieces. What I was not expecting was the location itself being so interesting and enjoyable. It is VERY peaceful, rural, and for me a fantastic place for birdwatching. Mainly rice fields/sugar cane with small patches of trees and small holdings. Lots of chickens running about and cows being led along the roads. Mornings were very leisurely so I would spend an hour or two before breakfast exploring the neighbourhood. Easy, flat walks, the lake is lovely, bikes to borrow, hardly any cars, people smile and say hello - likely you will be the only tourist in the area! Accommodation was excellent, as was food (catered for vegi) - delicious, varied, generous! Best mango I ever tasted from here. Their personal attention was really exceptional, just tell them what you're interested in or what you want to do and they'll cater for you. I also visited the local market and town, Lamai's mother's vegetable garden, and went hunting for crickets at night. They are both generous and relaxed hosts, patient in explaining a lot of different things and offering a really unique opportunity to learn about life in one of the poorest regions of Thailand. I really enjoyed hearing from Lamai about what it was like growing up in the village, and also Jimmy's insights into the intracacies of local culture, politics, developments and goings-on, from his 18 years or so of living there. I travelled by bus from Pak Chong via Khorat (after 3 days visiting Khao Yai) and it was around 3 hour ride - very doable, cheap. It is something like 6 hours back to Bangkok. All-round great experience, would go again. Excellent communication. Probably unlike any other place or experience you will find in Thailand. Thank you! For anyone interested in the birds some highlights were Jacanas on the lake, Kingfisher, Woodpeckers, Hoopoe, Rollers, lots of Ioras and Coucals, Bee-eaters, Weavers, and Sunbirds nesting in the garden! At night there are frogs and toads, and you can watch the tockays and the ducks running around picking off the tons of insects coming to the light in the yard, which is very funny. Thank you and all the best!

We had a great time at Jimmy's and Lamais homestay. Jimmy drove us around to visit real Thai villages and places. He knows and tells so much about Thailand. He tells great stories. His lovely wife, Lamai is a great cook. We have eaten really, really good. Lamai should give some homecooking courses. She took us around the village and catched with the children scorpioens and spiders. The children (12, 10, 6) loved it. It was scary but off course great fun. In the evening we ate them. We had a great journey through Thailand but the Lamai's Homestay was really one of the best places we have visited and which we will never forget.

Lamai Homestay Guesthouse was the highlight of a trip that took us to several destinations in Thailand. Jimmy and Lamai provided an extraordinarily unique opportunity to experience a side of Thailand that is not only well-removed from the tired and often sadly exploitative tourist path but is also an accurate picture of the country's traditions in a part of Thailand that rarely visited even by most Thais. What struck me most about what Lamai and Jimmy offered was their connection to and support of the community. While clearly a superb experience for visitors, Lamai and Jimmy's endeavor was also an earnest and clearly successful way for them to contribute to and support communities that often struggle. It was clear, from observing how Jimmy and Lamai interacted not only with community members within their village but also the communities at the the sites we visited, that there was a great deal of respect from both sides. This is unfortunately often not the case in many interactions between foreigners and Thais. Although we only spent two nights at the homestay, we feel that we saw and experienced more in this short time that we did during the rest of the trip (10 days total). Jimmy and Lamai provided great flexibility in what we chose to see, and we decided on a visit to the banyan grove and Phimai, the Khmer ruins at Phimai, and an evening catching spiders and scorpions for food, which was quite an experience. Jimmy, Lamai and their children were gracious and kind hosts, and we felt at home at every point during our stay. We also ate very well! Lamai is an excellent cook and prepared some of the best meals we ate during our trip. Our only regret was not spending more time at the homestay. When we return to Thailand next, we are planning on spending at least 3-4 full days with Jimmy and Lamai - there was so much to see that we feel like we missed. This experience is recommended with much enthusiasm. Give the tourist trail a much needed rest and get a sense of what Thailand is really like behind that veneer.

I spent 3 days in Lamai homestay, 3 wonderful days. As soon as Jimmy came to the train station to pick me up, I felt good. I met Lamai, and Lizi, Jolie and Ami who are Jimmy and Lamai's children. It was so nice and exciting for me to understand and can speak lao with Lamai and the children. Interesting to talk about our experiences and life, show the photos of my lao family to them as if they were members of my family. I walked with them in the village and in markets, visited the school, met the locals, cycled through the rice fields, searched for the mushrooms, and met the famous and cute bac bo, the mother's Lamai's dog. I don't like guided tours where eveything is timed. I like authentic experiences, I like to meet local people and see their way of life, I like the quiet of the countryside, I wanted to see the real Thailand and not a showcase for tourists. And that's what I found with Lamai Jimmy Lizi Jolie and Ami who live among animals chicken dogs frogs. Thanks so much for everything. I knew Isan was beautiful, but through your eyes, Isan is unforgettable ;) As you are full of attentions and kindness. I hope to come back soon in Thailand, and sure to see you again. PS: Lamai made me so delicious dishes ;)

Li Li it was indeed a great pleasure for us all to meet you, & share your valuable hard worked for holiday time .Over the years (now our 18 th coming up) we fully appreciate how much of an honor it is for us to have some of you world wide clients out there choose our little space:) Far from todays mass tourism & it's derogatory effect on Thailand's traditions & culture. Our own sucess is unequaled as we introduced homestay to Thailand long before it was ever thought of by the tourist authority. Fluent English speaking Lamai a 5 th generation Isarn girl born here in this very village giving you her personal unique insite of all the traditions /culture /crafts still carried out by her family & also that of our own 20 yr married Eglish/Thai family life in our community. Our private 1 to 1 guided tour sites are again another unique feature far from the 50 in a bus normal thing.Or the adventurous go it alone clients who can obviously see every thing - but sadly dont have a clue what their looking at :{ As you mentioned earlier Li Li ,you did immediately became a new life long friend to us all.We will indeed await with joy a return visit & if meeting your mum is possiblw what an extra bonus. Our best wishes to you both for the future.
