Second time visiting Griffon forest, we love the peace and quiet and watching the wild life. Had a lovely Sunday lunch for my birthday on the Sunday at the tykes restauran. Love it so much I am coming back in October with friends. If you want peace, quiet, relaxation this is the place to be. Fabulously clean cabins. Only thing I could fault is a better equipped kitchen but they still have all the basics you need

We enjoyed our holiday to Griffon Forest Lodges. It was very peaceful with lots of wildlife; squirrels that come to your window, 3 deer in the field and an abundance of birds including buzzards. There many walks which the dogs loved and it’s great to be able to walk to Sandburn Hall for drinks or meals. We had a day trip to Whitby but otherwise didn’t move the car. The lodges are a little dated, especially the hot tubs, but our lodge was spotlessly clean with a new bathroom, great walk in shower and jacuzzi bath! We loved being in the hot tub in the evening surrounded by the forest. The two major drawbacks are firstly, the very late check-in time of 4.30pm and early checkout of 9.30. We have never been anywhere with these timings. I can imagine it being very stressful for families trying to get several people out and a dog for 930! Secondly, and the worst for us, is that you don't have any bins other than a tiny bin in your kitchen. You are told not to leave bin bags outside due to the wildlife, which is understandable. This means that you have to carry your rubbish all the way to the main bins at reception. To put this into context, imagine a family of four, the amount of rubbish you accumulate, and then you have to regularly walk from the furthest part of the forest, with your rubbish, to the bins at reception. You could put it in the car and drive it but we had just changed our car and didn't want to put rotting food and dog waste in it! We have been to many lodges in nature spots who all provided secure bins that couldn't be tampered with by wildlife. The staff regularly emptied the bins, not the guests! It is these two points that would put us off returning which is a shame because otherwise we had a great time.

This is a very comfortable middle of the road lodge. It has everything you need, is comfortable and well equipped. There are some great walks and wildlife all around. My only issue is the ridiculous checkout time of 9.30. They don’t even wait til 9.30, they start emptying the hot tub at 9. This is purely for managements convenience and really makes it a stressful rush on checkout day.

Late check-in 4.30pm and early checkout at 9.30am is not acceptable. This should be a 3pm check-in or pay extra for an earlier check-in and either 10am or 11am for checkout. The timings just take away time from your holiday. We pverall love Griffon Forest but it is a little dated now and very expensive. We have stayed many times but it is becoming very expensive for stays here which is a shame. The Company doesn't really move with the times and it's the same now as it's always been but the Forest is amazing and location. Having said all of the above, no doubt we'll be back, we just love the peace and tranquillity the Forest offers.

My husband and I come here and stayed in the Poacher Lodge Premier. What an amazing place. Our Lodge was spotlessly clean. And had everything we wanted. The hot tub and spa bath were great too. Loved the wild life channel, available to see what wild life was around the park. Loved seeing the wildlife too. Would love to stay again

Our Woodmans Lodge was beautiful, Warm, spacious, clean, well equipped, super comfy beds, and an amazing Hot Tub. The location of the lodge was great, loads of wildlife feeding from our decking, never seen so many different birds all together. Lovely walks around the Woods. Only negative thing really is they could do with a little update, as a family we like a good games night but the dining room chairs are very uncomfortable and a little rickety, we ended up bringing the outdoor chairs in for comfort gaming. And the bins were overflowing apart from that it was a great week away. Loads of cooking utensils, pans, dishes etc and the Washing machine & dryer were a bonus especially after muddy walks & hot tub dunks. Great place would love to return in the summer months.
