Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Strange feeling that I was back in the seventies experiencing the decor at Roselawn. Very clean and very quiet until you realised that the bedroom walls were not that thick and that there was a heavy snorer in the room next door. Dinner very basic but breakfast was OK and the staff were friendly.

Stayed here on a business trip.

Pleasant hotel even if the decor feels a little dated. Staff were very pleasant and rooms very clean.

Food was of good quality and freshly prepared. A good selection of breakfast cereals and cooked options available.

Stayed here last week and was soo impressed I’m currently staying here. One night this week. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The breakfast is beautifully cooked and presented, lots of choice too included in the room rate. Bar is a bit basic but is adequate. Evening menu is very reasonably priced. All in all it’s definitely worth the money. I would definitely book again.

Made a fairly random choice, trying to avoid the local services or premier inns. Turned out to be a great little hotel (note - not a ‘motel’ type offering).
Room was clean and warm, and had a quiet nights sleep. The shower was up to the job, and the little gels provided were surprisingly good. I had a well cooked dinner in the small restaurant: all the items tasted of good quality - much the same as with the excellent cooked breakfast. All the staff i encountered were very friendly.
The decor, with a number of old paintings, is understated and tasteful. None of your overly modern tat.
All in all an excellent experience, and happy to recommend to all.

Cannot fault the Roselawn. Other than the feeling that as soon as you walk through the door you are stepping into a Time Machine, the rooms were clean and tidy and the service was fantastic.

I personally recommend the room I stayed in. The leopard print bedding was a sweet touch. The breakfast was lovely, especially their poached eggs *chefs kiss*.

The evening meal was above adequate if you like something cheap and cheerful. The pubs nearby are an “experience”.

Real gem and the staff really make it. To be honest it’s really dated, typical 70’s bed and breakfast. The place is spotless, the staff are very friendly, warm and welcoming. Breakfast is cooked freshly. Great location as well, 20 mins from Theale, 15 from reading. If you are working at AWE Burghfield then 2 mins.

This is not the kind of a hotel I would normally book, so I am reluctant to comment on the décor and facilities as they may well appeal to some. It appears to be quiet and not near any shops or pubs, however you can get a taxi in and out Reading for £18 each way.

There were two main issues here that score this low. The first one is the quality of sleep: Our room was rather warm and the beds not the most comfortable, as I could feel the springs despite being a “normal-sized” person. The worst thing was the noise, though. We had to shut the window but still couldn’t escape the noise. It sounded as if the kitchen was right by the room; lots of plates being piled up and taken in and out of cupboards, banging of saucepans (?), doors opening and closing, people talking etc. It was absolutely impossible to sleep through this. When I mentioned the noise during check-out, the kind gentleman apologised but said that they can do very little about the noise caused by customers, although it was clear where the noise came from and it had nothing to do with fellow customers.

The second thing I consider more serious: While the staff at the hotel were friendly and surely did their best, they also came across very inexperienced. The lady at the reception didn’t know how the contactless cards work despite them having the machine. Then when we returned late at night and bought some drinks they told us that the card machines don’t work overnight, and we agreed to pay in the morning as had no cash on us.
When we checked out, they not only charged us the drinks form the night but also those we had paid on our arrival using contactless. Sadly I realised this only when looking at the bill on our way home. When I enquired about this via e-mail, I was asked to send my card details over to them via e-mail! Needless to say nobody in their right mind sends card data via e-mail. I suggested they do a cheque payment, and never heard a thing since. They basically charged me money and refused to give it back to me, and I still haven’t heard anything over a month later. This, to me, is a serious matter and will affect my opinion of this place massively.

Graduation day at Reading university we found this lovely little hotel 15 minutes drive from the uni, 95 quid via booking.com for a family room with full English breakfast, clean and pleasant easy check in, welcoming staff on arrival room 204 huge double bed 2 full sized single beds with his and hers sink units and an en suite missing air conditioning or a fan during this unusual hot weather, lucky the room is upstairs so we were able to have all the windows open throughout the night, small bar area with limited drinks (sprits)no rose wine and lager by the can, didn't eat in the evening so can't comment but the full English breakfast was fine with cereals and fresh juice, overall a nice convenient value for money hotel 15minutes from central Reading

Had a one night stay as a single traveller needing to go into the city centre the next day.Took advantage of the public transport, bus stop outside hotel, time taken 15/20 minutes. All the staff were very friendly and althoughi am a discerning traveller The Hotel offers very good value for money and without hesitation I would return.
Cannot blame the management for a guest setting off the fire alarm at 7.00 am.Turned out to be a young male putting on his body spray directly under a smoke alarm !!
