Is it wrong to move house for a pub? Honestly, I cannot speak highly enough of The Pheasant. The food, people and place are incredible. As a dairy intolerant coeliac, Charlotte, Billy and Ryan always provide the most amazing options for me to eat here. I can rely on beautiful and well prepared food and just the most lovely atmosphere. The hampers alone were an absolute highlight this year! Cannot rate them highly enough, hopefully the pictures go somewhere towards doing it justice! If you get chance, absolutely visit, the Charlottes cocktails alone are worth the trip!

With lockdown in full swing the resourceful owners at The Pheasant have set up a Friday and Saturday night take away service. You can order from a 3 course menu and either pick up, or if local pay a bit extra for delivery. We went traditional with Fish and Chips for a Friday night supper - it was amazing. Delivered piping hot to my car in the car park and bang on time too. Lady who delivered it was wearing a mask and placed it in the boot of the car at my request meaning no risk of any contact whatsoever. Great food, great service and a good price. What is not to like?

This was ur first visit and it most certainly won’t be our last (lockdown lifting permitting). The food was delicious, portion sizes were very generous and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. Probably best Roast dinner ever (accept for mine of course 😉). Could not fault it in anyway at all. Every thing was Cooked to perfection..

We live in Newbury and last visited, what is now the Pheasant, several years ago. As a Wedding Anniversary treat and having had positive feed-back from friends, we decided to revisit the Pheasant. And what a pleasant surprise! Friendly welcome from the charming staff and a delightful warm table next to the central wood-burning stove. The Pheasant has had a splendidly quirky interior decor change, obviously based on the pheasant and country- life. I hit my head on the “duck” sign on the front door just like most entrants! Pate starters and scrumptious venison pies were excellent. Prices were very reasonable for such a splendid meal. We strongly recommend the Pheasant and shall return, (remembering to “duck” at the entrance!)

Booked the ‘Downton Abbey’ tour and decided to spend the night here as otherwise a lot of driving in one day. We were also able to spend some time in Bampton although unfortunately it was a very wet day to wander around. We were given a warm welcome and shown to our room which was lovely. The restaurant was comfortable with good service and we had an enjoyable evening eating and drinking. The following morning we had a breakfast feast which we had chosen the day before. It set us up nicely for our tour and we struggled to eat our afternoon tea at Highclere. Would definitely return if in the area again.
