We've eaten at The Yew Tree a few times, and it's always been good, so decided to invite some friends and stay for the night. As usual the meal was very good, and absolutely no complaints. The accommodation, however, was a disappointment. We already knew it was next to the busy road, so expected it to be noisy. But the...

We have stayed at several hotels within the Epicurean group and The Yew Tree is of a similarly high standard. Walking into the front door of the hotel, you immediately see that it's a traditional coaching inn that has heaps of character. It has clearly been refurbished over the years (given that the building is several hundred years old!) but...

My husband and I stayed at the yew tree for two nights very recently. The management was dreadful. We stayed in a cottage style room. To get to the room we had to walk in the pitch black as the light outside our room had no bulb. The room was cold. Drafty. Bath robes provided were grey. Rooms had carpets...

Drove over to eat so also stayed. Nice lady at reception provided a warm greeting and showed us up to our room (BIRCH). It’s an old building and there are nooks & crannies everywhere and it’s all rather quaint. Nice. First problem was evident straight away – small dressing table with no stool or chair. Easily sorted as the same...

We made a weekend of coming to Newbury to visit Highclere Castle and decided to book one night. The hotel and pub are immaculate we couldn't fault it in anyway. Best fish and chips I have had in a long time and all the portions were good for the prices. My fiancée booked the next night as a surprise for...

We had our works Christmas meal at the Yew Tree and I decided to stop Afterwards as I don't work local to home. I was impressed with both the food in the restaurant and the overall stay. You don't always get the best of food on a Christmas menu but we were all impressed with the quality. The room was...

Stayed here for one night recently. Dinner was good and breakfast excellent but so many little things spoiled the overall impression of the place. On arrival the ladies loos in the pub were dirty, like they hadn't been checked for some time. Not enough staff on duty but a 16 year old boy seemed to be holding everything together! Our...

We stopped for coffee here once on our way to our daughter's in Aylesbury. It was a great place so we decided to stay one night. Our room was just right, big enough for an overnight stay, but not sure if we could have done a week there. We went down for dinner and everything was freshly cooked, which was...

A few words of praise for the management and staff at the Yew Tree Inn at Highclere. Originally we had booked for the Monday but due to holiday changes moved the date easily to the Thursday with no fuss. An early request for 7:30 am breakfast was accommodated outside of the normal 08:00 - 10:00 breakfast times and I have...
