We stopped for coffee here once on our way to our daughter's in Aylesbury. It was a great place so we decided to stay one night. Our room was just right, big enough for an overnight stay, but not sure if we could have done a week there. We went down for dinner and everything was freshly cooked, which was... More

A few words of praise for the management and staff at the Yew Tree Inn at Highclere. Originally we had booked for the Monday but due to holiday changes moved the date easily to the Thursday with no fuss. An early request for 7:30 am breakfast was accommodated outside of the normal 08:00 - 10:00 breakfast times and I have... More

Came here for lunch but the food was not up to its usual standard. My Pheasant was tough as old boots and my apple and blackberry crumble did not work at all .Had whitebait to start which was ok but overall not up to its usual standard

We decided to stay here primarily because of its location near to the Highclere Stud. The establishment just oozes Olde English charm and atmosphere. It is an attractive building with a lovely bar and dining room and in our case a pretty en-suite bedroom. My wife was very pleased with what was a clean and spacious bathroom and the 'wet-room'... It's confusing that some reviews are for their restaurant and others for their rooms, but we found both to be pretty good. Recommended by Highclere Castle as being close by, the Yew Tree Inn is still 15 mins by taxi if they're dropping off at the front gate. Apparently the back gate of Highclere Castle is closer, but wasn't open... More

Right from the friendly welcome on passing the threshold, I thought we were onto 'a winner'. The Inn appeared to be in the middle of nowhere. Part of the building can be traced back to 1745 and the uptodate additions have been made very sympathetically. My wife and I had the 'sycamore' room that was small, with room for one... More

We visit the Newbury area several times a year, but this was our first stay at the Yew Tree. We would be happy to return, though would prefer to avoid the Birch and Maple rooms - very close to the A-road, which can be busy even at night (with noise / headlights disturbing sleep). Our room was cosy and charming,... More

This gastro pun is straight from Central Casting. A Hollywood crew could film a period piece or an updated Bridget Jones with little effort. This pub has history too, notably as the lynch pin of a famous celebrity chef gone celebrity only. That was then. Today the menu is simple, fresh, tasty, enjoyable and entirely affordable. Our group enjoyed the... More

This is a restaurant in a good country pub that we have previously always enjoyed. This particular evening it wasn't perfect. The welcome was warm. The young waiters and waitresses were attentive although often out of their depth. The food was quite good. But it all felt amateur rather than professional. There was not enough managerial oversight on a busy... More
