Detailed Reviews
Having stayed at many campsites over the years I must admit this is one of my favourites, exceptional layout and a very good location, absolutely loved it. From first arriving we were made to feel welcome, our dog can be a little bit excited at first after a long car journey and takes him a bit of a walk around to calm down and they were very understanding of this which I really did appreciate (he was no bother after the initial setting up haha!)
The procedures for the toilets were absolutely perfect, limiting the amount of people in and also providing sprays etc to clean. I’m surprised at the very few other campsites offering a similar sort of set up!
Will definitely be back again and look forward to staying, thanks very much.

Stayed here for 2 nights before moving further NE to the coast. We go camping regularly and very rarely return to the same place since we like to explore new places. This is a site that we definitely WILL be returning to! The site and the location were brilliant (stones throw away from Hadrians Wall and good pubs), but we were blown away by the facilities. Impeccably clean, recently modernised and a drying room available for wet coats/boots. They even have a fridge and freezer (which were very clean) which was super handy for us since we could make butties and save ourselves some pennies. In addition, Steve and Tracey who run the site were extremely welcoming and went above and beyond to help us! Thanks so much to you two! We cannot recommend this campsite enough.

Tracy and Steve were brilliant hosts, really helpful & welcoming, we stayed on a Caravan pitch and Grandma stayed in the lower shepherds hut, both were exceptional, very well maintained & beautifully presented, it was lovely to see the ducks and rabbits and the children enjoyed playing and making friends.
The facilities were kept fully functional and spotless despite it being peak season, not many sites can boast that!
The location was also perfect for exploring the area, literally a stones throw from lots of Roman attractions & the wall itself and central for other attractions slightly further afield.
The views are lovely, endless skies & photo worthy sunsets, can’t talk this site up enough, I wish we could go back tomorrow but it’s an 8hr drive for us! If you like caravanning / camping or shepherds hut type holidays and want the full Hadrians wall experience I honestly can’t think of a better place to stay 10/10.

We stayed here at last minute while passing through, called up at 9.30pm and the lady was so welcoming and helpful allowing a late check in. We parked up next to the duck pond with some rather cute ducks. The facilities were fab, warm and clean. We can’t wait to return.

This well kept campsite is on a hill, meaning many campers can share and enjoy the expansive views without viewing each other! Perfect location to explore Hadrian's wall. Thoughtful owners provide a (not to scale) local map with a few walks and highlights as well as good pubs (we enjoyed the Milecastle Inn and Twice Brewed for walking lunches). There is a handy small shop with essentials, and bacon rolls etc on offer for breakfast. Clean facilities, a hairdryer and good hooks on the shower doors. Have been to campsites with more space between pitches, and depending where you are it's a bit of a walk to the loo, but you can't have everything. Would definitely recommend!

Returned from another lovely weekend at this wonderful site. Tracey and Steve made us feel so welcome again. Given the current situation they have the facilities set out so well so you can maintain social distancing. There is an onsite cafe that sells snacks and has tables outside. Already booked up for another weekend in October. See you again!!

Myself and my husband have just returned back after 2 nights staying in one of the shepherd huts, it was a lovely break away.
We arrived just after 2pm on 3rd September, there was no one at reception so had to call the number to let them know we had arrived, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to come and check us in which we didn't mind.
Check in was quick and easy, I think it was Tracy who booked us in, she was very helpful and friendly, telling us how to walk into town and to hadrians wall. She showed us to our hut which was lovely.
The hut had everything you could think of, we had tea and coffee, there was a dish cloth, sponge, tea towel and washing up liquid, which normally you have to take you own.
There was a kettle, microwave, fridge, hot plate, plates and cutlery, mugs, wine glasses.
There is a nice little wood burner which heats the hut up very well.
Bed was nice and comfy.
Hut was spotless when we arrived.
The view we had was amazing, could see for miles.
Lots of little bunnies running around, so cute
The camping site grounds are very nice and kept clean, the shop/cafe was nice too.
Breakfast baps very tasty.
Owners of the campsite are very friendly.
All in all had a lovely break away and would definitely be back.

This is a fantastic little traditional site near Haltwhistle, just a 20 minute walk to some great parts of the Wall.
The welcome: Tracy and Steve are the most welcoming hosts, showing you to your pitch and providing a wealth of info on walks and places to visit with a handy local map.
The site: very attractive with spacious terraced pitches for smaller vehicles and tents and beautiful views. Larger vehicles are accommodated next to the duckpond or up on a larger hard-standing area. This site is particularly suited to those cycling or backpacking but families were having a great time with so much space.
Facilities: some of the best we've had. Great loo and shower block, spotlessly clean, laundry and drying room and a shop with cafe for morning coffee and breakfast rolls.
The area: There is so much to do and see from the site. We used the local bus (get a pass for best value) which stops at the top of the road and goes on a circuit round the best areas. This means it is easy to do linear walks and visits to the forts. There is a great pub (The Milecastle Inn) one and half miles or so across the fields, a lovely evening walk.
All in all this is a wonderful site and we would even go out of our way to use as a stopover on way to Scotland. We will certainly be back!
Thank you so much Tracy and Steve for giving us such a special place to stay!

Enjoyed a 2 night stay with a warm and friendly welcome from the warden, Neil. Excellent Covid measures in place and facilities extremely clean. Neil showed us around on arrival and was very helpful and informative and always available. The campsite is a lovely quiet and well run site and is superbly situated for walks to the wall and Vindolanda and other areas.
The ducks and hens were very friendly too and quite entertaining.
Lots more to see, we shall definitely return.

When we arrived to check in we joined a queue - that's fine we appreciate things are different at the moment. Unfortunately we then discovered that slap bang in front of reception/check in is the motorhome service point. The guy in front of us needed to fill with water and there wasn't enough space for us to get past, further delay. We needed to empty as we had been unable to do so at our previous campsite, delaying others behind us. As check in isn't until 2pm it felt like half the afternoon had gone when we finally got to our pitch. As check out is 11, not quite sure what happens in those 3 hours. We were initially offered a grass pitch, as it had been raining heavily we asked if a hard standing pitch was available, we were given a pitch in the seasonal pitch area. Our storage pitch has more space. The space between units did not meet the recommended space of a minimum 3m.We couldn't have opened our canopy had we wished to do do and there wasn't enough space to sit out. Luckily the weather wasn't too good. I accept we could have declined but we didn't want to risk getting stuck on the grass and we had heard someone complaining of sliding on the grass. At £26 a night we would have expected better. On arrival the site looks lovely the grassed area is well maintained, toilets and showers are clean, sadly lacking with the hard standing. Disappointed as this was our first visit to the area and the site doesn't live up to its website.

Good morning Kayt222 Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are really sorry that your experience with us didn't meet with your expectations and in so many areas. We are also really disappointed that you didn't feel able to mention any of your concerns to us at the time so that we could have done something to improve your experience. We are friendly and approachable people who will always do our best to help. We do disagree with you about misrepresentation, we believe that our website is a good illustration of the campsite. We are a very small traditional campsite with pitches set on different levels with lovely views. We are definitely not a big flat field with rows of hard-standing pitches. Most of our customers regard this as the thing that makes us special, so yes our service point is in front of reception because we don't have the space to put it anywhere else. Our customers are happy to wait a few minutes for the person ahead to finish, this has never been raised as an issue before? Its unusual to travel with a full tank, maybe you had problems at your last campsite also? Your review seems to overlook the fact that your booking was for a grass pitch and whilst we had some rain before your visit the pitch was available to you and camper-vans were getting on and off the area with no issues. You are incorrect about a complaint, no customers have complained about "sliding on the grass". It was actually your choice to use our seasonal caravan area, we were simply trying to accommodate you but it was your choice not to use the allocated pitch. All of our hard-standing pitches were in use. With regard to our check - in time, we wonder if you are perhaps new to this type of holiday because a 2pm check in is pretty normal practice. We are a small family business and there are generally just 2 of us on duty each day, actually working from 6.15am until 10pm at the moment. To answer your question then between 11.30 and 2pm we are cleaning the cafe, cleaning the toilets, trying to get a cut on the grass between bookings, dealing with enquiries, attending to bins, site tidiness alongside the many "invisible" tasks involved with running a small business. We don't have one but would you allow us a lunch break? We do hope that your 3rd campsite was much better. Best wishes Tracy & Steve
