Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic site, we stayed on hard standing with our vw campervan with 2 small tents using the backpacking area. We couldn't fault the facilities and how immaculately they were kept. The owners were pure gems, took pride in their campsite and clearly loved sharing in other's experiences of this wonderful area. The site was well placed for walking and Roman attractions. We had a dog with us too who loved the walks. There's two pubs within a 5min drive or 40min walk; The Twice Brewed allows dogs, has great food and a shop on site. We didn't frequent the other. Back to the campsite, there was a cafe on site with great facilities but only open in high season. Pitches are varied and tailored to individual needs with some wonderfully private areas. The campsite is set out on levels adding more privacy and wonderful views. We stayed for 3 nights but all agreed we could have stayed longer, we look forward to visiting again and thank you.

We have been travelling in our campervan for 3 weeks and this was definitely our favourite site. Immaculately kept, and yet not too formal, flat good-sized pitches, clean amenities (even a cafe with a proper coffee machine - but not off season ;-C ) and wonderfully helpful owners - we were even given a lift to begin our hike when the bus let us down! Couldn't fault this in terms of position - walking distance from Hadrians Wall and the (normally good) bus route to for hiking. Lovely views too and very dog friendly. Hoping to come back.

From the friendly and easy check in , everything about this campsite is amazing . Small enough to be individual and friendly but set out on different levels so very private. Great views out of the campervan windows in every direction. The whole site is well maintained and well thought out. So conveniently placed to be walking distance to many places you would want to visit. The toilet/ showers were spotless with lovely hot showers. The washing up station was immaculate. The small cafe and shop very convenient and great value. The website and camp information so informative and helpful. We will definitely be returning and now consider this to one of our favourite campsites.

We have just had a great weekend camping with our Grandchildren, the site is very well laid out and tidy with great clean amenities. The location is ideally sited to gain access by car or walking to Hadrian's Wall & the local Forts & Museums. We had a warm welcome and tour of the site giving options where to set up out tent. There is a small Café and shop serving Breakfasts and drinks together with those essentials that run low or forgot to bring. Our Grandchildren loved the freedom of the camp.

Just got back after a 2 night stay in one of the shepherd's huts. This is the 2nd year in a row we have stayed here. It is such a lovely campsite, so quiet and peaceful. Shepherd's hut has everything you could need, so comfortable and cosy. Sitting out in the late afternoon next to the fire pit is so relaxing. Owners of the campsite are so nice and welcoming, I accidentally smashed a plate and they were so nice and understanding. We will definitely be back, maybe next year. Thanks again for a great break away. Louise & Stephen x.

Lovely friendly campsite with good amenities, well cared for and beautifully enhanced by flower planters and pots, fab views and spacious pitches. Good proximity for a range of Hadrian’s Wall walks and Vindolanda Fort and Museum which was top class. Pubs and the Sill visitor centre are in reach and the AD122 bus runs close by, taking you to other Roman sites.

Very friendly , very clean, modern facilities and in a superb location - and camping pitches spacious. Would recommend to anyone thinking of camping in Hadrians Wall country. Close to amenities in Haltwhistle but also in a beautiful location. About a 20 minute walk to Cawgap on Hadrians Wall.

Busy site, great location, unfortunately with the volume of rain the pitch we were on was very waterlogged - which seemed to affect some other pitches also. Wash amenities were good, including clothes washing and drying, but only the backpackers had access to a hut to provide shelter for eating and cooking.

Response from Tracy Miller, Owner at Hadrians Wall Camping and Caravan Site
Responded 4 Aug 2023
Dear Nick Thank you for staying with us at Hadrian’s Wall Campsite. It’s a shame that July 2023 was, according to the Met Office, the wettest July since 1836 when records began. Most of our grass pitches were impacted by the rainfall in some way and we lost 4 of them completely. We are still fortunate in comparison to some campsites who had to send guests home and close. It’s been a game of Tetris in moving bookings around, but we have managed to welcome every guest that booked, and most have been extremely grateful and understanding given the circumstances. Thankfully the weather has now improved and the remainder of August is looking good and we are pretty much back to normal. Just to clarify there are no restrictions to using our very popular little hut, its available to everyone. Its just that backpacking guests find it most useful given the very small tents they carry with them. Regards Steve Hadrian's Wall Campsite

A friendly campsite in a beatiful rural location. Toilet & Shower block were spotless and warm. Nice level pitches. Loads of lovely views nearby, although do be aware it is a hilly part of the Country so take your walking boots if exploting on foot. Will definately be back.
