Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Great food, brilliant service covers about everything. They are very Covid aware and we felt very comfortable there. The staff look after you nothing was too much trouble, it is the first time in years I have eaten a three course meal, just the right proportions for me.

Room Tip: We were only there for food but I would have loved to stay on an overnight.

The inn is situated in a rural location close to Bath and Bristol.

Wonderful looking building and the interior is equally appealing.

Bedroom was very nice and had a modern shower room with toiletries provided. There was also a hairdryer, TV and very well presented coffee / tea selection.

I was in Room 3 which was close to the stairs to take guests down from their rooms to the private car park for overnight guests ( behind a CCTV gated area).

The inn has low ceilings and traditional furniture in both the bar and restaurant areas.

The restaurant was lovely and the food was wonderful, I cannot fault anything from the attentive waiting staff to the size of the portions.

It’s no surprise that the restaurant was packed with locals and reservations need to be made!

This is a 5* establishment especially for the well priced room and equally well priced dinner.

We stayed over with other family members for a nearby wedding, occupying three rooms. All very clean and comfortable, helpful staff, quality tea and coffee facilities that includes, biscuits chilled fresh milk on the landing in little iced bottles. Good breakfast in a spacious and atmospheric bar/ lounge. Lots of space to meet friends of an evening..lots of seats in 'nooks and crannies'. Good local taxi service if needed. The only comment would be the extremely squeaky floorboards in the understandably, old hallways, and in the rooms. Late night returners mean disturbed sleep. Bedding great but rather hot for summer. The booking we had was quite costly but for a special weekend was ok. Lovely surroundings if you want to sit outside.

Three of us booked to stay overnight on the weekend, with dinner booked on the Saturday night. Fantastic friendly service from the staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the food was delicious! We had a good chat with the manager who was interested and engaged with feedback as to how we found the pub. One of the group I travelled with summed it up with; “You need to stay more than one night”.
We were blessed with a warm summers night and seating outdoors but the peace and tranquility made the evening meal outside so much more enjoyable. Do visit!!!

Rooms here are lovely and have great facilities. Love the fresh milk for your tea and coffee. They were really accommodating for us. And we had a lovely snack meal Saturday night when we returned from a family lunch occasion. The fish finger sandwich is recommenced and unusual to still be able to order in the evening

Over a period of about 20 years I have stayed at The Carpenters Arms several times, usually on business, and had promised to take my wife one day to allow her to experience the excellent food and service. Once again the experience was excellent and I would recommend very highly. The food was as good as, if not better, than at any time and we were made to feel extremely welcome by all the staff and Simon & his family.
We will be back in the not too distant future. Thanks to everyone at The Carpenters for your brilliant service and excellent quality food/drink.

We were informed before arriving that the kitchen would not be open due to isolation of staff, this was not a problem as tea and coffee facilities in room, and loved the fact that fresh milk was available from an ice bucket. The hotel was delightful, very pretty setting and fabulous hanging baskets etc, all very attractive. Inside was very comfortable as was our room with comfy king size bed and very clean en suite with everything you would need. We only stayed one night so only saw one member of staff who was very helpful. Would definitely recommend The Carpenters Arms as a very comfortable place to stay.

If we could rate this lovely pub/hotel higher than 5 we would have.
The food was fantastic, beautifully presented and piping hot.
The staff were all lovely and nothing was too much trouble
The whole hotel was spotless, the rooms and communal areas were very clean and looked freshly decorated.
Tea and coffee facilities available in the rooms and thought given to very high temperatures with tiny milk bottles kept in an ice bucket on the landing
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Thankyou.

Stayed here for the night as part of a mini tour around SW England. What a find. The pub itself looks fantastic in a tranquil setting and is kept to a high standard. The room was decorated very well and was our favourite place over 4 nights at different places. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the food was perfect, wine delicious and post dinner drinks rounded it off nicely. The breakfast was great too. Highly recommend and we'll return if visiting the Bath area again.

Sadly the Sunday lunch did not meet expectations.
We expected a better experience based on reviews. We had anticipated that a 13:30 booking would mean that the food would be fresh and recently cooked. Given the almost empty pub & the quality of the food I guess that they eat earlier. The pork was dry, the roast potatoes & parsnips were not crisp or tasty and the Yorkshire puds (which you pay extra for) were soft & tasteless. Two of us had nut roast which I suspect was not prepared on site but commercially produced, sadly this also disappointed. The waiting staff were lovely but the ‘manageress’ who came to talk about our ‘disappointment’ was a little defensive & did not really deal with things in a mutually satisfactory way. We travelled quite a distance due to positive reviews but we will not return.
