Really, really great hostel in a beautiful Yorkshire Dales village. Perfect for a few days enjoying walking through charming countryside, serving the very best homemade food using locally sourced ingredients. There is a well stocked secondhand bookshop in the hostel, stylish dining room, cosy lounge with wood burning stove making this a really special place to stay. In the village there is a great little shop and three good pubs to try whilst you are here. There are a great range of walks straight from the front door and some truly inspiring bike rides!

Myself and a group of friends booked the whole hostel for a long weekend at the end of October 23. Saul and Floss were incredibly helpful with the planning before we arrived and so very welcoming too. It is a superbly well maintained hostel, very comfortable, set in an idyllic location. The food was excellent (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner), full of fresh local produce and all homemade on the premises by Saul and Floss. It was the perfect place for us and I would highly recommend it.

Just had the most amazing stay at Kettlewell Hostel with a very big group where it was just us there. The food was absolutely superb and me and my son are both coeliacs as were others in the group and were so perfectly looked after! Other allergies and dietary requirements were meticulously catered for. The beds were very comfy and the whole place was homely, clean and welcoming. Saul and Floss were the perfect hosts and it is by far the best YHA I’ve ever stayed in! Or B&B for that matter! Our whole group had a wonderful time 👏👏👏

Dear Hedy, Thank you so much for your kind review, it was really good to meet you all and we are so glad that you enjoyed the food! Catering for coeliacs and those with other allergies certainly provides us with some interesting challenges, but we do our very best to accommodate everyones needs. We have several gluten free options on our menu (some with minor modifications), and many other allergies can be catered for with a little more notice. Since the start we have been a nut free kitchen, and as we have a very small team, the risk of things being mixed up is greatly reduced, all of our food being made ourselves, we know what is in it! We see that being away from home can be stressful for allergy sufferers and anyone with unusual dietary needs, but we do our best to help (and there is the self catering kitchen if anyone would simply prefer to cook for themselves) Thanks again and very best wishes, Saul and Floss

Faultless! 4 of us stayed for 2 nights and we ate at the hostel both nights (and had breakfast too). The food was wonderful; high quality, fresh and well presented. As others have stated, it was as good as what you might eat in a quality restaurant. A great choice of local beers. Rooms, communal areas and bathrooms spotless. More than anything though was the friendly welcome and ongoing help and service provided by Saul & Floss. Easily the best hostel any of us have ever stayed in. Thank you! I've been to many, many YHAs. This may not be the best building or the best setting BUT it is the best on so many other levels. By a long way. The hosts are amazing, the food is spectacularly good. Stay here - you won't regret it. Way better than any B&B and way better than most posh hotels.

Brilliant hostel with lovely hosts that cannot do enough for you. Really stylish and comfy dining and living spaces, with many shelves of second hand books to peruse or buy. Basic but comfortable, bright bedrooms with wash basin, shared showers & WC, all immaculately clean and cheerful. Evening meal, breakfast and packed lunch were delicious, extremely generous and very good value. V. good veggie options available & kids menus. Garden to rear with plenty of seating and nice views up the hillside. Would thoroughly recommend and would love to return.

This is simply the best hostel we have ever stayed in, it’s more like a hotel. Floss and Saul are so welcoming, full of information and extremely helpful showing us suitable walks. The whole place is immaculate, dinner was fantastic value and very tasty. There’s a great range of beers and ciders, complimentary tea and coffee, a very well equipped self catering kitchen, a lovely garden with lots of seating to enjoy the sunshine and an amazing selection of second hand books to borrow for the duration of your stay or to buy and take away. If you haven’t been already, go!!!

We stayed in a double room on a quiet Monday night. Friendly welcome from Saul and Floss. Evening meal was superb, good value with a variety of vegetarian options. There are a number of comfortable and interesting details which enhance the average hostel experience - reading lamps for the room, decent, powerful shower, firm double bed and an in-house book shop selling a wide range of well priced novels. The garden looked great but unfortunately the weather kept us inside. Kettlewell is a lovely Dales village well placed for the Dales Way and a variety of other tougher climbs.

Warm welcome from Floss and Saul, despite arriving at the same time as several other groups, both went out of their way to ensure everybody got fully settled. And throughout our 2 nights both were happy to chat, offering tips for local walking/fellrunning/cycle routes. Lovely characterful property. Lots of communal spaces - spacious dining room, comfortable lounge overlooking the garden and fellside, and the sun trap garden itself with plentiful all-weather seating. And books everywhere, to pick up and dip into during your stay, or buy and finish. Loved that touch! We had a (the?) double room, cunningly tucked in up on the second floor, with another fabous view through the skylight/window. Really comfortable bed. Plenty of toilets and showers. We did our own breakfasts, but enjoyed the evening meals and sampling some of the local beers and (presumably not so local) wines. Seems most do it the other way around. We overheard lots of positive comments on the breakfast as we pottered In the self catering kitchen, enjoying the tea/coffee/hot chocolate/milk provided. Those evening meals though - delicious! Portions sized to account for outdoor activities ie generous (but not overfacing). And local/sustainable ingredients where possible. Cycle shed is well laid out with several Sheffield hoops to lock to, and extra floor space (eg for tandems, which we did see, or perhaps cargo bikes, which we didn't). Plus some resident bikes in the rafters - as above, road tested tips for loops and routes were generously shared. Will definitely return, maybe even leaving the car at home entirely...

I stayed here a couple of times some years ago, and the hosts are still the same lovely couple, Saul and Floss. It was a great place to stay before, but it's even better now. Saul and Floss are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. The self-catering kitchen facilities are excellent and there is loads of great social space, as well as a lovely garden surrounded by fields. The menu is the highlight with something like 8 or more options (3 veggie). I had the bean stew with cabbage and mash..which sounds basic, but they did something special with all three parts, flavours were amazing! One of the very best YHAs in the UK

Hi Paul, Thank you so much for your lovely review, we really appreciate it. We are so pleased that you liked the food, we aim to make good home-cooked, comforting food, many people arrive at the hostel having walked a long way, or cycled (or just driving can be pretty taxing sometimes!) and our food is good, hearty and nourishing. After a good day out on the hills, what could be better than a home-cooked meal...... Thanks again and very best wishes, Saul and Floss
