Really, really great hostel in a beautiful Yorkshire Dales village. Perfect for a few days enjoying walking through charming countryside, serving the very best homemade food using locally sourced ingredients. There is a well stocked secondhand bookshop in the hostel, stylish dining room, cosy lounge with wood burning stove making this a really special place to stay. In the village there is a great little shop and three good pubs to try whilst you are here. There are a great range of walks straight from the front door and some truly inspiring bike rides!

Detailed Reviews
This is a fantastic Youth Hostel.
I visited with a friend for an overnight stay whilst doing some walking in the area.
The owners are brilliant, friendly, enthusiastic and very helpful.
Everything has been thought of for your stay.
There is as usual in a Hostel a self catering kitchen with a supply of teas and coffee and a good range of equipment. But because the Hostel offers a good selection of meals that are tasty and well cooked plus a couple of pubs in the village I didn't see anyone actually cooking there.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced. They also offer a selection of drinks to have with your meals.
All of the public areas were spotlessly clean and very comfortable with quirky tasteful decor. There's a dining area with trestle tables and benches and a lovely cosy lounge with a log burner, both rooms lined with books for sale.
It's probably the nicest Hostel I've stayed in and completely unique.
Floss and Saul the hosts were good enough to post back some earrings I had left behind. A great couple.
The area is stunning a walkers favourite.

All 5 of our walking group stayed at the hostel for 2 nights. We were very pleased with all aspects of our visit.
The quality of the accomodation is second to none, and more than surpasses other YHAs we have stayed in.
Our hosts , floss and Paul were fantastic, nothing seemed too much trouble including washing (for a small cost) our used clothing was washed and dried for next day.
The choice of evening meal was extensive and was served exactly on time. I would highly recommend the beef stew followed by the summer fruits crumble, either served with hot or cold custard with ice cream as a welcome extra.
Having used many hostels the showers have worked with varying degrees of effectiveness.
Be assured that the Kettlewell hostels showers are excellent , easy to use and importantly hot and welcomed after a long trek in the hills.
Finally all 5 of us would like to thank Floss and Paul for their excellent hospitality.

What a warm welcome from hosts Saul and Floss, which was to begin the start of a wonderful weekend break at a truly superb hostel. This selfless hospitable couple have a God given talent to give every guest a wonderful homely experience. The hostel was spotless and a real credit to our hosts. Despite the apprehension of sleeping in bunk beds the beds and pillows were comfortable and the crisp white bedding pleasing. The menu and food did not disappoint it was delicious. Lovely warm comfy lounge, lots of games and books which all added to a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable time. The village of Kettlewell is stunning and we all enjoyed our time walking around and appreciated very much the friendliness of the villagers.
Thank you we will definitely return as it makes an affordable break and extremely good value for money,

I can only add to the other 5 star reviews of this excellent hostel. I have been using youth hostels in England and Scotland since 1977 and this is most probably the best hostel that I have ever stayed in. I have just returned there from a two night stay as part of a 20 strong walking group. The hostel was clean and warm and the facilities were excellent. We ate breakfast and evening meals there. The meals were of a very high quality, reasonably priced and served bang on time. They also have an on licence which allows them to sell bottled beers from local breweries along with spirits and wine. If you're a keen reader you won't be disappointed by the amazing collection of paperbacks that grace the dining room and quiet room, all of which are available to purchase. The staff are both friendly and informative and also sell local OS maps and a very good walking guide listing walks from Kettlewell, which is an excellent location for exploring this part of the national park. Book your stay there now; you won't be disappointed !

Brilliant hostel with lovely hosts that cannot do enough for you. Really stylish and comfy dining and living spaces, with many shelves of second hand books to peruse or buy. Basic but comfortable, bright bedrooms with wash basin, shared showers & WC, all immaculately clean and cheerful. Evening meal, breakfast and packed lunch were delicious, extremely generous and very good value. V. good veggie options available & kids menus. Garden to rear with plenty of seating and nice views up the hillside. Would thoroughly recommend and would love to return.

I can't really add much to the previous reviews. The location is stunning, the vilage is picturesque and the hostel is without doubt the best ever. Saul and Floss set the standard by which all other hostels are to be judged. Yes, the decor, furnishings and fittings are high quality, and the ambience created with the log fire and bookshop cosiness is perfect for winter evenings, but it is the hosts who make this such a valued destination. The friendly welcome which they extend to guests is priceless and the quality of the food would rival many a high end restaurant.

From the warm welcome and beautifully refurbished building, to the delicious home made meals and cosy fire, everything about our stay was perfect. Kettlewell hostel retains all the good bits of youth hostelling; a drying room for wet kit, social areas and the choice of private room or dorms. The refurb brought it tastefully up to date and people of all ages were enjoying the accommodation. Highly recommended.

Just come back from a fabulous weekend here. Definitely not your average hostel. A very warm welcome from Saul and Floss, excellent home cooked food, and beautiful spaces to relax in. I will definetely be returning. The showers were heavenly, and I really struggled not to buy up the bookshop... sadly I have own so many books I now have to rely on electronic versions to save space! I initially thought the low ceiling space in the upper floor bedrooms might be an issue, but actually the layout worked well and I had no issues... I'm 5ft 11 ish so anyone my height or smaller will be absolutely fine

Dear JudithSager, Thank you very much for taking the time to write your thoughtful review, we very much appreciate the support. I'm glad that you liked our second-hand book shop, although not everyone buys a book to take away, we find that just being around nice books can elevate the conversation a little, and it is always nice to spend a bit of time flicking through a few books that might go on a someday-maybe list of things that you might be interested in at some point sort of list.. Also a nice thing about second-hand books is that they continue to benefit society as they get passed around, we benefit from the selling a book, and then, once read, they may get passed on to an oxfam, then on to help the aged and on.... each time helping someone else along the way, which is a pretty nice thing to be a part of! Oh and we are glad that you didn't bump your head, we thought long and hard about the layout up there and we are glad to say that it seems to be pretty good for almost everyone! With very best wishes, and thanks again, Saul and Floss

Stayed here first weekend in August with my wife and daughter. We checked in on their first day of reopening and were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. They had clearly thought about how to adapt to the current restrictions - we had an allocated bathroom and dining table. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food was excellent - we had cooked breakast and evening meal. Overall it was a lovely weekend thanks to the hosts Saul and Floss.

Dear Steve, Thanks for taking the time to leave your kind review, as you know, we thought long and hard about the best way to open post-lockdown, it is important to us, not just for the place to be safe with good procedures in place, but for the hostel to feel as nice as it ever did, we are so pleased that you had a good time here and your feedback is very encouraging to us, thank you. We are glad that you enjoyed the food too! We hope that your wife's training continues to go well, and very much hope to see you all again! With very best wishes, Saul and Floss

Our stay was awesome. The hostel is in such a beautiful location, and the owners are extremely lovely people - so welcoming and friendly. And the food!! The food is divine. We had both dinner and breakfast and felt like we were eating food that is normally served to kings! We felt very safe there in terms of Coronavirus, as we had a dedicated table just for us, and same with the bathroom and shower. Plenty of hand sanitisers too - it was obvious a great care and thought was put into it to make the place very safe in this respect. They have a fabulous garden area too with very comfortable sunbeds. Honestly, even the playlist in the dining room was just great. Absolutely can and do recommend, a wonderful place to stay! Thank you so much Floss and Saul!!

Dear Escape783608, Thank you very much for putting your review up here, we really appreciate the support! We are so glad that you enjoyed the food, although our menu is small we try to pack it with goodness! We have thought long and hard about making the place feel nice to be around and to make it safe for people to use in post lockdown, although we have only managed to open half our rooms, we have plans to open a couple more, but we won't do that until we can find a way to do it nicely and safely. We really hope the you get to come back again! Thanks again, Saul and Floss
