The location is spectacular about this place. A bungalow right on the beach. And its a well maintained, closed in bathroom, no bugs, clean bungalow with decent bedding and balcony. Refrigerator and air conditioning, all day if needed. Only downside of the room is no hot water but when the sun is hot outside a cold shower is refreshing. The bar here makes great fresh fruit shakes (add a shot of rum to really spike the taste). The sunset, when its not raining, its absolutely one of the most beautiful ive ever seen in front of this resort due to the reflection of the low tide water on the beach. This is the only beach on the island with waves enough for surfing, boogie board or just fun. The resort has free boogie boards for use or rental for surfboards; lessons are offered too for a price. The host, Cristor from sweden is very nice, accommodating to the guests needs. Best beach ive visited on the island and a short motorbike, or walk to some small restaurants (open only during high season, low season you have to drive around the island to find open restaurants. If you want to eat seafood at the resort or other restaurants, such as fish, make sure you book the seafood in advance so the restaurant can go buy it).

We stayed in a family unit at Phayam Lodge for a week recently. We hadn't been back for about four years, so we were apprehensive, knowing how fast things chance in Thailand. But, we found that Phayam Lodge had actually improved since our last visit. The food, which was already good, was even better. We dined on simple but excellent Thai classics every night. And, the beach was cleaner and more beautiful. For some reason, there are fewer motorcycles on the beach (in fact, I only saw one or two a day), which is great. Just like last time, there was some small and manageable surf coming in every day and my kids are now old enough to learn how to surf, which they did. We also did some snorkelling at the far and of the beach (to the north) that we hadn't tried before. We were pleasantly surprised to see some food healthy coral and fish, including a nice moray eel. I read one or two reviews on TA by people who seem to want Phayam Lodge to be some ultra-luxe resort on Samui or Phuket. It's not that. I hope it never is. What Phayam Lodge is is this: An extremely comfortable place for families and couples who are ready to step up rock-bottom budget gueshouses, but still want soul and character. And, more importantly, a superb location on one of the best beaches we know of in Thailand! I've traveled to Thailand well over 20 times and lived there for three years, and I can tell you this much: We will definitely be coming back to Phayam Lodge. We consider it our perfect vacation paradise within easy travel distance of Bangkok.

A beautiful tranquil place with nice bungalows and villas.
The owner takes great care and even the public beach in front is being cleaned by the hotel staff.
The bar has excellent drinks at fair. prices, which you can enjoy with marvellous sunsets sitting on the beach.

Getting there is part of the adventure. Reluctant to write this review as it’s a true piece of paradise. You can not help but relax the second you arrive. The beach is beautiful, the family that own the property and the staff are so friendly. The food and the drinks are absolutely mouthwatering. Possibly the best mojito EVER!

Nice bungalows with sea views and a great bar/restaurant. The Thai food was our favourite and the barman makes excellent cocktails. Service was really attentive and sunset surf views incredible ! There is a family atmosphere - children and friendly dogs frolic in the sand and boogie boards are free to use.

Gorgeous hotel if individual villas right by the beach. Super relaxed vibe. Great food, surf lessons, fab relaxed island - need to hire scooters otherwise you are a bit stuck but no cars on the island…..

We spent a week at Koh Phayam in July/Aug 2011 (4 adults, 2 young kids). Phayam Lodge (which is NOT tents, but newly constructed, very nice bungalows) was potentially lovely and the owner was very helpful. However, we stayed only one night and chose to go elsewhere because the family bungalow was really not suitable for a family with small kids. It has a very large main room and master bedroom, and 2 very small additional bedrooms. The problem was that there was neither AC nor bug screens on windows/doors, so it was unbearably hot and stuffy with all doors and windows closed at night, especially in the kid's room. Even if we had chosen to leave the windows open, the window in the kids room was too close to the floor - the kids could have climbed out during the night. Also, there was nowhere shady on the grounds or even at the beach for young kids to play in the daytime. This was in the hot, humid, and sometimes buggy rainy season.
So, although Phayam Lodge has potential to be a great place for families (since it is one of the few places on the island with 2 bedroom (or more) bungalows, it was not up to par when we were there in low season. It appeared that the owner was still working on the place, so check with him if you decide to go there in high season - things may be different by then.
The smaller bungalow we also rented did have A/C and was very nice. The beach is spectacular.

Firstly I want to say Koh Phayam Is a lovely place to visit. Phayam Lodge is on the beach. We paid 2600thb per night for a bungalow. This was the most expensive resort we stayed in and if it wasn't pre booked we would have not stayed the 4 night we booked. The bungalow was nice but for the price paid it simply was not worth it (In Krabi we paid 1800 the for a bungalow with pool, hot water, AC, TV etc. I wasn't expecting all of this but simply for 2600 thb even in thai standards its a lot and I at least expected hot water. The final thing that annoyed me was that breakfast was not included! The rate is about 60 euro a night, At that rate I could easily lived in luxury at other resorts in Thailand. I much would have preferred to stay at the bungalows with a fan and hammock as AC is not needed at night. We met people paying 400thb for a bungalow on the beach next to us.

Koh Phayam is a lovely place though and a great place to get away from it all, When I return I will stay at alternative accommodation.

We had a wonderful and amazing stay on the Phayam Lodge. The facilities, the very very friendly and pleasent lodge people, the dive shool, the restaurant with the best kitchen and best chef, Pelle's caipirinha on the bar, the beach, the stunning views, the cleanliness all over the lodge, the garden flora the unbelievable sundowns and the snorkelling trip to Surin Island! WOW!! Just do it!!!

We can highly recommend this lodge for all kind of travellers - but don't tell that anyone else ;-) ...because we liked the peace away of the mass tourism, away of the Thai-beaten-treks and we want to come back anytime to the same atmospheare we'd just experienced! And anyway there are little beach partys all over the island for those who want to celebrate.

The neighborhood is very cool. Thai natives live together with europeans in "peace", you can have breakfast in the near little "village" with background sounds of Bob Dillon or Bob Marley, awesome and unique atmospheare in our hectically world.

For people who want to calm down from stress and who don't need thousand of other people arround themselves in their holiday and who attach importance to go to a nice natural place, good people and as a add on like diving or snorkelling, the Phayam lodge of Krister and Ing is the best place to stay on the island as long as you want to stay.

Special Tips: Order chef Rambo's Tuna Sandwich or norwegian dive instructor Oyster's most favorite dish "thay-style fried chicken with basil leafs and mashed potatoes" - the alternative for those people who don't want to eat always rice, and rice, and rice, I called it "Oyster-Food" haha...:-) AWESOME FOOD!

How to go there: Can recommend to travel to the island with the slowboat from Ranong 150 Bath per person, 2 1/2 hours, then Scooter Transfer to the Lodge 70 Bath per person and for going back to Ranong we prefered the speed boat 390 Bath per person. If you stay overnight in Ranong, definitely stay in the b-ranong hotel, colourful experience with rooftop pool!

Enjoy your stay, we are jalous. Mike & Sue!
