The resort has an absolute beachfront which is relaxing and quiet. Cottages are in serious need of some painting and maintenance. Unfortunately the majority of guests were either smoking Cannabis or cigarettes with no consideration for anyone who was a non smoker. Certainly avoid this accommodation if you are seeking unpolluted air!

This resort has a nice looking pool and fronts a very nice beach. The management is friendly and keen to help. The food is okay and the rooms are fine. We paid 1,600 THB for a Superior Room including breakfast (we booked two to accommodate our children) and were very happy with our choice of hotel.

The negatives are all minor but worth mentioning to give readers a clearer picture. They use too much hydrochloric acid in the pool, which is a little bit off-putting when you swim in it. There is inadequate shade around the pool, so the experience is not as pleasant as it could be (you get baked in the hot sun). We usually spend a lot of time in hotel pools, but didn't hear because it was just too hot and you couldn't help but taste the acid - plus the beach was superb as an alternative. The grounds lack character - they seem a bit barren, with a large area of patchy grass on a hard surface exposed to the sun - however to be fair I noticed they have planted lots of plants which hopefully will look a lot better once they grow. The management do a good job and seem like nice people, but lack the genuine warmth or sincerity and hospitality that you find in some owner-managed hotels. There is no hot water.

Koh Phayam seems fairly spread out and Payam Cottage Resort is not convenient to shops and restaurants (you need to hop on a motorbike taxi to get anywhere), but it is on a really nice beach and there is a hotel two doors up along the beach which serves excellent food, well priced. To my knowledge, there are only two hotels on the island with a pool, so if this is important to you, then Koh Payam is a good choice. Otherwise, if atmosphere and choice of eating/drinking places is important to you, I would probably recommend you choose a hotel on Ao Yai Bay on the other side of the island.

The island itself is very charming. No electricity except for individual generators. Friendly people. Beautiful beaches. A good place to chill-out, provided you're not expecting a good shopping experience, or 5 star hotels or action-packed adventure.

Payam Cottage Resort was an ambitious place that seems to have been either sold by the original owner or the original owner ran out of energy (or money) for the place. Maybe they overbuilt for the island, with about 30 or 35 cottages. Our first impression was good, but then you saw the details later... The cottage design and finishing was nice, the pool good (but very chloriney), lovely restaurant overlooking the beach, friendly staff in uniforms, and definitely the best beach spot on its fine white powder section of Ao Khao Kwai (Buffalo Bay - rock outcrops divide the bay into three separate beach areas). But the bathrooms were functional yet looked primitive relative to the price of the place (about $60 per night). The list of items needing maintenance attention was long. In the morning the beach chaises were still covered in sand and left wherever people had dragged them yesterday. The restaurant staff would never walk the 30 feet to the beach to see if anyone wants anything (even when they have no customers). Everything had to be paid cash on the spot. And just various details that seemed lacking relative to the general standard of the place. A manager with a keen eye for detail and very little additional money could make this place truly superb.

Concerning the beach and the resort itselft, there is not much more to ask for on the islands. It is really good. Not too far from the pier and the access to the resort is via concrete road. Anyhow we have never experience staff alternatively owners being that much customer unfriendly and careless like at the Payam Cottage Resort. I won't go into all the stories, but this one I will not withhold and you can judge yourselve. We were supposed to take the early fast boat at 9 am since in order to get back home, we had a flight scheduled in Bangkok. We absolutely had to get that boat and because of that we bought our ticket 4 days in advance. That morning we had a converstation with one of the staff and he told us, that he was going to Bangkok too, but in the afternoon with the the 2 pm boat. Anyhow we got a moto-taxi to the pier and the staff stayed at the resort. About 10 minutes before leaving to the mainland the two owners with their kid and the staff member came to the pier, too. They had obviously changed their plan. Anyhow, we could see that they had no tickets for the boat and that they were talking to the ticket sellers. We bought a coke and slowly walked by foot. At the boat their were lots of people. It seemed overbooked and people were upset, since the driver stopped the boarding. The owners were there too, they must have taken the moto-taxi all the way to the boat and not only that, they were the next ones allowed to board the boat. Guess, whose placed these 4 people have just overbooked? Of course, ours! Although we had a valid ticket, purchased 4 days in advance we and another couple were not permitted to enter anymore. "Rules are rules and the boat is full. Why don t you just take the boat at 2pm? I need to leave ..." The end of the story is dramatic. The other couple had to stay their and we were just permitted while casting off and only because one guy after pleading, crying and talking was merciful and told the driver that we were allowed to enter. What about the Payam Cottage Resort people, you may ask? They did not help us even a second.

The beach, pool and restaurant were very nice. We liked the clean beach where you could walk for miles. The way to the island is not for us old folks, but we got there and then my wife didn't want to ride the motor cylces. But somehow we did it with all our suitcases.
We had a guest in the middle of the night and you have to watch out what you pick up.
The bed are HARD. Rock hard. Nice balcony to smoke.

Comfortable room with aircon and hotel location is excellent right on a lovely beach and pool setting too. Breakfast acceptable. Hotel take cash only and upfront - like most of the island - and no ATM's. Rooms need smartening up as does garden which could be fabulous if attended to properly. Not great value for money limited wifi but staff pleasant.

Best deep fried sea food pattern ever
The pool is as blue and clear as my eyes
The beach front properties have the comfort of A 5 stars yet laid back
Female staff adorable

I Highly recommend you stay in bungalow without AC in January you don't need but it can get hot here down the year

The bus from bangkok was 9 hours Nd the ferry the most pleasant boat ride
Choose slow trip Vs speed boat

Robinson Crusoe would have loved it here

Hurry up I feel it will soon be the next hip hop for crowds

Good location, not too far from the pier (4 kms by a motor-taxi at 50 baht per trip). And the place it located right at the end of Buffalo Bay, so all the privacy you can enjoy.

The food is the only pain here. Not many varieties and over-priced.

And if only the owners would smile more and be more friendly!

We stayed at Phayam Cottage Resort for 2 weeks and never ever have we had a more relaxing and cozy holiday. Incredible personnel at the resort - thanks for friendly and professionel service. The beach - take a look for yourselves. We’re coming back soon - guarenteed!!! There’s not much to see at Koh Phayam, but if you’re looking for a peaceful place for body and soul - look no further. And one last thing, or two - the food at the beachrestaurants and the fact, that there a very few tourists, just add up to the chance for having an amazing holiday. Just pure pleasure....

The resort is located at Ao Khao Kwai which is.. in my opinion.. such a beautiful beach in koh payam. Staff are lovely & friendly. Room is nice and clean. Breakfast may be a little bit small but it's ok. Wifi in the room is imposible to get it (I think my room is quite far from the router in the lobby). If you are looking for quiet beach to recharge your energy, this is the right place!!
For the bird lover, you'd love Oriental Pied Hornbill in the early morning. There are a lot :)
