The owners make this place special - we booked last minute and so didn't eat there, but the vibe was great and breakfast was first rate. Isse and his wife are so warm and welcoming. Check this place out!
The hotel and rooms are charming, and the host are personable and friendly. Unfortunately it doesn’t really cater for business travellers, as breakfast doesn’t start until 8:30. As the hotel is in a rural location, this probably means that most business travellers would incur a long journey to ‘work’ which is likely to preclude them being able to have the included breakfast.
Fabulous Carribbean platter at the party night. We had a delicious array of Carribbean dishes and complimentary cocktails. We were also treated to a brilliant disco. We got home at 2.30 am. We will be back for the next one! We love the walnut tree!
We have been here before and had a nice time about 2-3years ago although the portions were on the small side we were made to feel welcome. Tonight sadly we had to look for staff having booked a table, the bar lady told us to take a seat and she’d be over with drinks and a menu. After half an hour of waiting for someone to at least offer us a drink I went to the bar and got drinks. My husbands pint was served in what looked like a dirty glass. We were ignored a few times by three different waitresses - sat under a loud speaker next to some very drunk customers who were not there to eat. We were eventually spoken to by one of the waitresses and told that there was no menu, it was a Caribbean platter (which was fine, we love Caribbean food). I asked about what was gluten free and a couple trips to the kitchen and back to check she said there were at least 2-3 things I wouldn’t be able to eat no substitutes at all - hey ho! sometimes ‘ya just have to suck it up’ thank god I’m not coeliac!! She said it was £45 for the platter - fine - just feed us it’s now been 45mins! I also asked to be moved due to the noise and sitting in a passing place next to two lovely, but rather sozzled, ladies, fortunately they were able to oblige. Eventually the food tuned up - well it wasn’t worth the £45, small portions that looked like they’d been scraped from the bottom of a saucepan some curly fries that were totally random (and I know that I can’t eat) and rock hard … a couple nice bits but not a lot of meat, mainly bones - no explanation of what was what in the platter or pleasantries from the waitress food just shoved on the table ‘plates are hot’. They were busy - which is great to see, a local business being busy, but totally understaffed or very unorganised. We won’t be going back again which is sad as it’s the only Caribbean food around these parts, and quite close to home. I honestly feel quite sick and saddened that I’ve just wasted £60 of my hard earned money tonight, a babysitting favour from my parents, and we are still hungry! ☹️…
Excellent customer service, fantastic Caribbean food and wonderful service for breakfast. Hotel rooms are great very clean and really homely. Definitely recommend it. Lovely setting near to Air museum
Had a meal here this evening and all I can say is very poor jerk chicken and chicken burger very small portion very disappointed please don't waste your time or money had curly fries very small it was our wedding anniversary so that made it worst
We had a table booked for 11 people for my Granny’s 88th birthday. A very lovely, friendly woman greeted us at the door. We felt welcomed as soon as we arrived and throughout. The food was incredible, really delicious - clean plates all around, In my Granny’s words “The staff were excellent. I can’t say anything bad about it, I had a lovely night.” Thank you for making it so special for us all.
We have had a couple of lovely meals here. Slightly disappointed this last visit to receive curly fries instead of rice on the jerk chicken. They were not very nice, while the rice usually is. Everything else was lovely however.
We had a group lunch for 16 following a visit to Haynes Motor Museum. All the staff at the Walnut Tree could not have been more friendly, welcoming, attentive and helpful. The food was excellent with generous helpings of freshly cooked food. Would recommend it to anyone and we will certainly be going back.
These guys are the real deal! They hail from Martinique and the fusion blend of Caribbean cuisine and French influence was utterly mouthwatering. Literally everything we tried hit the spot, especially the slow cooked pork, which was on a different level, falling off the bone, with layers of spice and nuances you just don't often see. The use of spice and sweet was the most impressive thing and the balance just incredible, not an easy thing to achieve when you're dealing with inexpensive cuts of meat and West Indian levels of heat. 100% will be coming back here again, and again, and again.
