The setting of this hotel is excellent, right overlooking the river. During the day it's busy with many visitors but goes quiet in the evening. Public parking nearby over the road: we didn't need to pay - perhaps free on Sundays.

We stayed for one night during an extended tour through France. Lovely room on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the river. No lift, but hotel staff were very helpful cheerfuly carrying luggage up the stairs.

We had dinner (2 menus '@ €46) which was very good: excellent foie gras portion was very generous, but were the small side flavours contributing to or fighting with the taste? I wasn't sure. Duck breast was enormous, and although slightly tough, taste was excellent.

The local wine recommendation ((Ch. Bellingard @ €24) was not a great success: it probably would have been better if it had been opened and left for a while. We should have chosen something further down the list.

Breakfast next morning was a rather modest event, served rather haphazardly, and at €15 pp the value is in the experience of sitting by the river rather than in the food.
For drinks on arrival, aperatif, , dinner, wine, coffee and breakfast the bill came to €295.

We very much enjoyed our stay, but left feeling we had paid a full price for it.

An amazing find. A superb dining experience, with a passionate chef and accomplished Sommelier, led by the owner of House. Very professional staff led to a truly relaxing experience, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was welcoming and friendly. The rooms were well presented and yhe bed was stunningly comfortable. We dined all 3 evenings on the terrace, where the major of diners were non residents.

We were visiting family and this hotel was recommended. We were not disappointed. Brantome is a picturesque town and this hotel has such an idyllic location overlooking the river. Our flight was due to land late Sunday evening and we were concerned about checking in late. We e mailed the hotel and Carole replied immediately, easing any concerns we had. This warmth and efficient hospitality continued throughout our stay. Carole and all the staff couldn't do enough for us. We stayed in room 35. This was a beautiful room with traditional french decor. Spacious, very clean with an amazing river view from the balcony.
We ate at the restaurant one evening and couldn't fault either the food or the service.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are hoping to return next year.

My husband, neighbour and I booked dinner for 3 on the balcony on September 1st. My husband and I have dined here at least 5 times before over the past 10-15 years. So when we decided to take our helpful neighbour out to dinner to thank him, we immediately booked Le Carbonnel. We understood there is a new chef with a Michelin star and of course, a new menu. We looked forward to returning here.
But what happened at the restaurant was a great embarrassment and disappointment to us. My husband rang ahead asking if the chef could make him a special vegetarian main course and found out we could order two courses each so a dinner would cost about €45 before wine, aperitifs or coffee.
When we arrived, the waiter attempted to serve all three of us my husband’s vegetarian choice as a starter. My husband got that mix-up sorted out and then the waiter took all our silverware away leaving only a fork each and two sharp knives for my neighbour and me. We didn’t know why he did that but after waiting about 15 minutes, I called the waiter over to ask why he hadn’t yet taken our order. He said my husband had ordered breast of duck over the phone. But he never did that.
We didn’t really want that but we were told we had to have it and that this choice was a ‘surprise’ choice. We then ate it- it was tasty but undercooked but had just some beetroot coulis and a few pieces of the vegetable. So we waited in anticipation to order a lovely dessert. But again, the waiter said we had to have the surprise! It was fairly tasty but not what any of us really wanted. This whole fiasco costs €165. We were all still hungry and upset over this huge change to this wonderful former restaurant. Needless to say, we will not be returning nor recommending it to anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I don't think I've ever had a faster check in experience either. We were in our room and assisted with our bags in seconds. The rooms are charming and well appointed. We had a room with a balcony that was very close to the bridge itself. You can be quite overlooked, if this sort of thing bothers you (didn't bother us) but we found it great just to sit and watch the world go by. My only comment would be that it would be lovely to have a small bistro table on each balcony to better enjoy a bottle of wine or read a book, but this is a very minor thing.
The breakfast offering isn't huge, but perfectly executed, which I'd prefer to a huge poorly executed buffet. I only managed to navigate the egg boiler properly on the last day, you need to give it 5 minutes at least for soft boiled. The coffee is plentiful and it's a perfect way to start the day, especially if you have terrace weather. The staff were just lovely, always a recommendation for things to see and do, and they were very quick to learn our drinks orders. Things like that just make you feel a little bit special. There is plentiful free parking nearby, we parked in the large riverside carpark opposite the Citroen garage, just a few minutes walk to the hotel. We have an electric vehicle and there are charging stations on the other side of the bridge close to the abbey. Just beware they are slow chargers and not the cheapest so wouldn't recommend for a full charge, but definitely good to have so close if needed.
Would recommend this hotel to anybody, we loved it! Thankyou to the whole team for looking after us so very well!

The hotel is lovely- excellent position overlooking the river in the centre of town. Our room in the main hotel was charming if slightly old fashioned. There is no air conditioning so it might be oppressive In very hot weather. The staff were delightful.
Unfortunately the menu in the restaurant has changed to a tasting menu. The food was of a high standard but it has become much more expensive and there is no choice.
It is fine for a special occasion but for lunch time family or friends meals it is too expensive and offers no choice. We have been coming with family and friends since 1997 but unless the menu reverts to its fomer traditional French character we will not be able to afford to come back. It was interesting that on a Saturday evening at peak season the restaurant was less than half full.
PLEASE management restore your previous family friendly lunchtime menu!

This our 4th visit to this excellent hotel. We return because of its locate overlooking the river and for the friendliest if the staff. This visit, even with the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, didn’t detract from our stay. Everyone, from the front desk to the waiting staff were so friendly and helpful. This is also the first time we’ve had dinner in the restaurant and the food/quality was exceptional. Well done to you all and hopefully we’ll see you again next year.

Booked a three night stay but decided to leave after two nights.
We had a family room in the annex which was overlooking the noisy public car park. The room did not have air conditioning so the windows had to be left open ! Despite there being no air con there were no fans in the room !
The family room only had 4 coat hangers and there was no safe in the room which is expected these days ! I think the staff and owners need to try harder and provide a better experience for their clients !!

We only stayed one night but were part of a larger party that were having a business meeting in the hotel. In total, we must have spent about 1,500 Euros.

I knew we were arriving early in Brantome and telephoned to see if we could check in earlier at 14h. I was told 'no' and that not only could we not check in earlier but that the hotel was actually closed until 15h! The restaurant and bar was closed at lunchtime and in the evening! We were all very disappointed. Between 11 and 15h my husband conducted the business meeting with no access to refreshments.

In the evening, they went out and I stayed in the hotel. In the bedroom, there was one bottle of water, no tea and coffee making facilities, nothing.

When I complained about there being no level of service throughout our stay, I received a very frosty reply from the lady in charge, who didn't seem to care about having a hotel full of guests, who had to go out to eat and drink and who had booked this hotel because of the reputation of its restaurant. She told me that if I expected 24 hour service (which I don't) I should book in at a Mercure!

As soon as we checked out, she blocked me on her social media messages to prevent me from taking my complaint further. What an attitude!

So my advice to anyone wishing to book is to make sure the hotel is fully open beforehand! A very disappointing visit to beautiful Brantome.

Say the lady who doesn't say hello, whose voice we haven't heard in our entire stay. The lady who was accompanied by some very nice people who drank wine in the lounge and were absolutely delighted (I'd like them to leave their comments and read yours)! Perhaps you should learn to say hello and people will give you due consideration. What an attitude!

There is parking opposite the hotel just over the bridge, but that is where the market is every Friday morning so would suggest you avoid then. Also when facing the hotel from the riverside, there is more parking as you come over the bridge on the left hand side. Parking is reasonably priced and free on bank holidays. Friday is the most difficult day to park. The best place is where Sandra W suggests but it also serves people who are hiring out canoes so again can become busy. Brantome is beautiful and well worth the visit.

Almost certainly; I cannot remember exactly, but the menu is extensive, and for such a fine restaurant, I am sure you will be catered for. It is possible that a typical menu is featured on their website, so check that too.
