My husband secretly arranged a surprise night away for my 60th birthday in April, then lockdown happened and we couldn't go. He and Stephen were in communication to find a midweek night when there were no other guests booked in, as we are still isolating as much as possible, due to me being a cancer survivor. So we were incredibly blessed to have this amazing, small lodge all to ourselves for a night. What an incredible find! Everything was outstanding. The staff attention to detail and customer service is amazing. From the food (thanks James and Fungai) to front of house (Mendoza), Stephen himself and the various others who worked behind the scenes and who we didn't meet, you really have a winning formula. We have never seen so many stars in the sky before. We so appreciated the eco-friendly touches (no plastic wrappings) and real, fresh, ground coffee in our room. I couldn't have been more delighted with my delayed present.

Had the most incredible visit to Qambathi Lodge. From the minute we arrived at this little piece of paradise we knew it was special. The welcome we received from Mendoza and the story of his journey within Qambathi was just heartwarming. Our room, with its own little balcony overlooking the mountain, was exquisite with lots of little personal touches from hand made soaps to little messages left on our pillow when the bed was turned down. It was fabulous to sit on our swinging chairs while drinking our morning coffee to look out at the zebra, horses and donkeys!
The food was delicious with the chef Funghi turning out a wonderful 5 course meal along with great breakfasts. Stephen and Nadia were the ultimate hosts making us feel so very welcome, nothing was too much trouble including some super wine tastings!
Would love to visit again

We loved our 6 night stay at Qambathi mountain lodge, which will surely not be our last.
Our hosts Stephen and Nadia were truly wonderful, as were all the staff and nothing seemed like too much trouble. They have a great selection of local wines to enjoy with dinner, or weather permitting around the fire.
Fungai is an amazing cook, our plates always returned empty. Front of house Mendoza is a great asset to Qambathi and pours a lovely pink gin and tonic!
The lodge is very comfortable, peaceful and welcoming.
Situated within the Kamberg nature reserve and a short drive from the stunning Highmoor Park, the area all felt incredibly safe and welcoming. The lodge is run on the ethos of supporting the local community and buying locally sourced produce. Stephen and Nadia are strong conservationists and work to support the local endangered vulture population, as well as rescuing a whole host of other animals.
We look forward to our next stay and highly recommend Qambathi to anyone visiting South Africa.

My friend and I spent two nights at Qambathi in February and had a wonderful time. Stephan and his staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and welcoming and the lodge is a real little gem. A lot of attention has obviously gone into style and design and the result fits in very successfully in to the beautiful surroundings. Our room was spacious with a private terrasse leading into the gardens, with horses and sometimes zebra grazing right outside our windows. A great place too for bird lovers! Linnen and towels of wonderful quality! We loved the complimentary sherry in the room.
The food was imaginative and beautifully presented, the breakfasts extensive with wonderful coffee.
There are lots of activities, and the lodge is planning to introduce yoga and horse riding shortly. Hiking in the mountains around is wonderful too!
It is obviously a very popular place with young couples from Durban but I would recommend it to people and families of all ages. Can't wait to return!

This is a beautiful lodge, family owned, in a beautiful location. The owners and staff exude genuine warmth and friendliness and deliver service that is calm and unruffled. The atmosphere inspires tranquillity and relaxation. We loved the ability to sit and read, admire the views, stroll around the gardens, climb the hill and watch the abundant wildlife that inhabits the lodge grounds. Everything we needed was available onsite; delicious meals prepared by a resident chef, a well stocked cellar and bar.
If time permits, there are plenty of interesting attractions within easy driving distance. With the luxury of a 5-day stay, we enjoyed trips to the Sani Pass and Kamberg Rock Art Centre - knowledgeable, friendly and professional guides were arranged by the lodge management.
We cannot think of a better place to relax and unwind.

We spent a wonderful 4 days at Qambathi - the team there were very attentive, knowledgable about the local surroundings and wildlife, and the food was amazing. We were in one of the garden rooms which was large, airy and the perfect place to relax. The communal lounge, bar and pool area are stunning and well positioned to while away time looking at the animals who live on the farm, watching the birds and soaking up the tranquility. Very close to great hiking at Highmoor and less than an hour to Giant's Castle.

Wow what an awesome experience we had.
When we arrived we were met and greeted by Mandosa. What an amazing young man who was always available to help and take care of us.
The owners Stephen and Nadia are so passionate about their little Gem and you get this sense from all their staff.
The rooms are stylish and cozy with our very own fireplace which was a big hit with my wife. She made a fire every night after dinner.
Our meals were exquisitely prepared by Fungai who came out every meal time and explained the 5 course meal she had planned.
My wife is vegetarian and gluten intolerant and Fungai went out of her way to accommodate her with the most delicious foods. She went as far as baking gluten free bread to accompany lunch and dinner.
On Saturday we decided to take a small drive to Kamberg Reserve for some trout fishing and we asked for a picnic basket. We couldn't believe how generous the portions what they had prepared in our basket, it was simply delicious. Included in our basket was a bottle of their house wine.
The best part of this Gem is the peace and tranquility that you feel.
Having to leave after three days is probably the least liked experience I felt.

Stephen and Nadia - we will be back

The resort is tucked away behind lush green trees on the road to Kamberg Rock Art Centre amid rolling green foothills.
The fact that it only accommodates 10 guests and no children are allowed makes it the perfect almost exclusively private noise free destination. The only sounds are the gurgling stream, the seldom mooing of two pet bulls, the welcome neighing of a few horses and musical bird chirps.
The comfort at the hotel left no room for any grouses and the food was delectable.
The only hassle was the pothole riddled road that gets you there and back.
The service by all staff and owners was very friendly.

What a memorable stay at Qambathi we had. The owners Stephen and Nadia are there to welcome you and immediately make you feel at home. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, special mention to Mandoza and to Funghi the chef. The food was really good, especially the five course meal. They have a wide selection of drinks, including some great wines! The rooms have all you would wish for and the beds and pillows super comfortable. Love the hand made soaps, fresh coffee grinds and your own cafeteire in the room. So enjoyed sitting on our own deck sipping coffee in the snug dressing gowns and looking out and the beautiful scenery with zebras, blesbok, donkeys, dogs and cows! So peaceful. Highly recommend this place to get away from it all!

We loved our stay at Qambathi! The rooms were beautifully appointed with a lovely supersized bed, and the location and scenery is superb. We enjoyed a horse-riding trip and a long hike up the mountain accessible from the property. We got caught in the rain, and the lodge had hot chocolate, sherry and a blazing fire awaiting our return. It’s small things like this that sets places like Qambathi apart. They also included little notes, and bedtime stories in the room. The owners are wonderful and friendly, and the surrounding nature is perfect for exploration, fishing and hikes! Or just to cosy up inside and play board games.
