Totoco Eco-lodge is one of the most eco-progressive lodging projects anywhere in Central America. The base structure of their project consists of three parts; the eco-lodge, the organic permaculture farm and volunteer program, and a micro-funding community project. They are indeed one of a very small number of eco-tourism projects that tackles all three intrinsically important aspects - social, environmental...

Sorry it took so long to get a review up! Amazing place with a great mission. We stayed in the Ometepe bungalow. Very nice and clean. The compostable toilets work great – surprisingly they never smelled. The bathroom itself was very nice. The food was terrific – and the coffee which is grown right next door is great. The staff,...

I stayed two nights in Totoco with four friends in May 2011. Our party slept in the Echecatl Cabin which normally sleeps four but staff at the lodge added an extra bed for us. The cabin is very clean and comfortable. Meals were delicious; staff at the lodge are extremely courteous and friendly without being overbearing. The atmosphere is very...

Stayed at Totoco for three nights. Fantastic views of volcano and amazing food (three course dinners each night!). Cabins are lovely but as you are almost in the jungle you have to expect some creatures (insects, spiders, lizards and frogs) to come and visit. Composting toilet takes a bit of getting used to but is all part of the eco...

Stayed 3 nights at Totoco in May 2011 and loved every minute of it. Pablo greeted us and always made time to chat, the staff are wonderful and the food is amazing. The vegetarian meals are especially delicious. The view from the lodge is spectacular, with sunsets over the Concepcion volcano a nightly experience, complete with cold cerveza. We hiked...

The place is excellent, is beautiful but you have to like being very close to nature. Me and my 3 girl friends stayed in this hotel and we enjoyed it very very much. We have a lot of stories to tell after stayed there, from the compost toilet to finding spiders inside our room. So if you are looking for...

My first impression of Totoco Eco-Lodge was much different to that on the day we left. We arrived on one of the chicken buses and hiked up the hill (approx one and a half km from memory). I was so tired and sweaty, and I remember saying to my friend that I didn't want to stay here - why were...

We're just back from a three-night stay at Totoco. And like every other reviewer, we wish we had stayed longer! It's an absolute original in nearly every sense. Sunset at Totoco definitely qualifies for the world's eighth wonder. So does the hour-long "dirt road" ride leading to the lodge. We could hardly believe the tires stayed on the car. But...

My husband and I stayed in the Bamboo cabana and loved every minute of it. It is an interesting juxtaposition of feeling like you are "roughing it" but in a luxurious way. We loved the open air shower, the hammocks on the porch, the big, comfortable bed. We loved waking up every morning to the sounds of nature: birds, cicadas,...

It's a place far away from everything up on a hill, where you can watch the sunset, see the volcano and the bay from the bungalow, the lounge and the swimming pool. Just perfect. It's not just ecolodge, it's much more than this - a developing program - very smart idea. We were impressed how such a nice place could...
