Former Georgian Farmhouse set in the delightful village of Northlew on the edge of Dartmoor in the South West of England.Set in an acre of garden, Elmfield offers peace and privacy in an historic setting. Our breakfasts are second to none and all tastes are catered for. The local pub is a mere 75 yards away and serves meals (apart from Sunday evening and Mondays).

We stayed here to attend a friends party. Martin the host and owner is probably the nicest, most amenable and interesting host you could wish to encounter. Communication pre our visit was excellent with responses quick and so helpful. On arrival we were greeted with fresh coffee, tea and homemade cake. He then gave us glasses, ice, juice etc for us to enjoy our wine we had brought. The building is just beautiful and well maintained and in keeping with it’s wonderful history which he shared with us as asked. The rooms are spacious and well furnished and although we had to share the bathroom between our party we were fully aware of this when we booked and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. A hairdryer was in our room and fresh coffee/tea is given as asked. Breakfast was amazing, served piping hot, with a good selection of food from fresh strawberries/blueberries to a full English and everything in between. Central in the village with a large garden and near the local pub it really is a gem.…

Lovely stay in this charming period house. Martin, was wonderful, with cake and tea when we arrived late in the evening. We didn’t get to see the convalescing hedgehog, but after a comfortable nights sleep, the following morning were treated to a fantastic English breakfast, cooked to perfection. If ever we are back in Devon we’ll pay another visit.

We loved our stay in Elmfield and will definitely be back. The house is beautiful - very georgian looking and the furniture is very appropriate to the period. There was a lot to see - very interesting political memorabilia. We were made to feel very welcome by Martin right from the beginning. We were served tea and home-made cakes in the lounge as a welcome. The room was lovely. We had the ensuite and it overlooked the beautiful garden beyond which is Dartmoor itself. Martin could not have been more helpful. He even rang to make a dinner reservation for us with the Clovelly Inn in the next village. The breakfast was amazing! It was abundant and very high quality! We were made to feel so welcome that by the end of the two days we felt more like house guests in an English country house! I cannot recommend it highly enough and we will be going back the next time we are in that area.…

Martin was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome with tea and home made cake on our arrival. The welcome we recieved was more akin to that of a friend rather than a B&B host! It was great to stopover here whilst cycling from Plymouth to Ilfracombe, and we could stow our bikes safely overnight. The pub in the village does decent food and ale. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, I will be sure to visit again when in the area!

Booked here for one night and stayed three days, the Bedroom room was comfortable and full of period charm. The sitting room was a lovely place for Martins tea and cake after a wet day out side, real fire roaring and fabulous conversation. Great breakfast so much choice.....just a lovely hidden gem

We stayed for two nights on 20th and 21st December '19 for our daughter, Sapphire and Chris's wedding. Martin is a fantastic host, nothing was to much trouble. Good food, comfortable beds, some places the showers are slow not here, powerful and hot. Martin was very acomadating to the fact we were opening champaign, we cleared up after ourselves so not to cause extra work fo him. Thank you so much Martin for being so welcoming. Allison and Peter Adams from Torquay xx

We needed somewhere to stay due to attending a family gathering in Northlew and ended up with 2 nights at Elmfield. Can’t fault it - the house is old but with it comes a ton of character and the house is full of many interesting antiques to admire. We had the bedroom with en-suite which I recommend for privacy. Both rooms have lovely view of garden. The proprietor, Martin looked after us faultlessly and our 1 year old Labrador even better! We were met with tea and cake upon arrival, which was unexpected and greatly received after a 4hr journey. He also kindly helped us out with a dinner reversation on a Sunday night (eating out in that part of Devon on a Sunday night doesn’t have many options). Breakfast was absolutely delicious - home cooked and clear focus on quality then quantity. We had a great stay and if need to stay in area again, would happily stay again!…
