We have used Chicheley Hall a number of times for our pitch events and dinners and receive fabulous service. The events team, front of house, chef and kitchen staff are all fabulous. They make us feel welcome, and take the pressure off me as the organiser so I can concentrate on the event and our guests for the evening and make things run smoothly. Adaptations to the menu are no trouble at all for dietary requirements, the food is well cooked and tasty. A great wine list. We hold our event in 2 different parts of Chicheley Hall - the Wolfson Suite for the pitch event and use the atrium for the networking with drinks and then dinner in the private dining room. Our guests love the private dining room and the buzz of conversations is great. Thank you all at Chicheley Hall for looking after us so well. Each time we host our event there we are introducing the venue to some new people who love it. It's a hidden gem that deserves to be simply a gem.

AVOID!!AVOID!!AVOID By far the worst hotel ever!! Do not be deceived by the look of the hotel. I booked hotel paying at reception upon arrival. The walk to the room was so long and cold! once arrived to the room, no lights or heating was working in the room called reception and complained. The night porter didn’t give a s**t, we weren’t offered any alternative room… decided to leave hotel when we go to the reception desk nobody was there feeling so tired and exhausted waited around for awhile! Ended up leaving key at receptions desk. Walked out! Called back next morning asking for a refund due to no stay, and I was told to call back Monday manager will be in! Called back Monday, explained the issue and requested a refund… the lady called Emma told me no refund will be issued due to a room could have been offered as an alternative!!! It’s the hotels job to take care of their customers and OFFER them alternatives!! Not the customers job! Even though I asked!!! Nothing was offered!! They took my money and didn’t offer a service which was expected!!!! The worst place to stay!

We spent the weekend here for a wedding. I wasn’t sure what to expect as the reviews were very mixed. However it was a very pleasant surprise. Overall I would thoroughly recommend making this hotel top of the list if there is a special occasion to celebrate because they will go the extra mile to make everything that you want even more special than you could have imagined.

On the face of it, Chicheley Hall is a perfect retreat. And without doubt, they have the hardware. The building itself is beautiful and the perfectly manicured gardens are what you'd expect from a Country House hotel. All within 15 minutes of Milton Keynes. However, the experience was like something out of a boulevard farce. The Overflow parking is not well signposted, so I made a good start by driving halfway round the hotel and having to ask for directions. Turns out, it's just a field. Bit of an embarrassing start. But the rooms. Really not what you'd expect in a hotel at this price. The standard rooms are in what used to be the Servant's quarters and it kind of feels like it. Walls painted over in whitewash giving Southwell Workhouse vibes- great in a barn conversion, less so here. Also, the room was utterly miniscule. I've stayed in more spacious caravans and had more room in a Hong Kong hotel, and they really cram them in. Most laughable was the tiny wardrobe. I guess this hotel doesn't have much experience of people staying more than one night! The worst thing about the room, other than an attempt at rural chic that instead felt cheap and dull, was the general state of the room. The blind opening mechanism came apart with zero force. Only one of the three lights in the main room worked. The bathroom clearly hadn't been worked on since the conversion in 2014, as there were rust red streaks all over the shower. Faded grandeur is acceptable when you've been a hotel since the Victorian era, not when you've been open 10 years! The real gem I'm saving until later. As for the public rooms, they're decent enough. Until, again, you look too closely. There is a charm to a rustic old house with creaky floors and such, but not when you've got whole rooms where the lights don't work and the wallpaper is stained. That's not charming, it's kind of gross B&B behaviour. It's a shame, because they're really cosy to hide in, but they felt like a real letdown. By far and away the worst thing was the service. How can a hotel with only 40ish rooms have such appalling service? You'd go to parts of the building where you'd see empty beer glasses still out from the night before. There's a lovely garden, but try getting a drink there! You can be plastered as you want, but you'll be sober by the time someone comes out with your order! But I'm barely even started on what a catastrophe service here was. Dinner at a hotel like this is supposed to be a relaxed affair, but apparently the restaurant had forgotten about our reservation and was instead focused on another event. The end result was that we went to the local pub, which was much more varied and reasonably priced. But that was in the dark, down a country lane. Not so bad when there's 4 of you, but it feels very unsafe and uncomfortable and certainly isn't the level of service you pay £100 a night for! The next day, our room was NOT cleaned! We ended up using dirty towels again the next day! This is one of the more expensive hotels in the area, bear in mind. With only a handful of guests. How do people slip through the cracks like this? And getting anything not at the breakfast buffet (like coffee) was like pulling teeth. Bear in mind that Country House hotels compete based on their luxury and high service standards and you can see the problem. One might excuse such behaviour from a hostel in the city or a family run B&B, or a new little hotel, or Airbnb. One might happily forgive little lapses in judgement and service at such establishments. But none of this is really acceptable at this level. And this isn't even the worst part of the weekend. Now, on Saturday there was a wedding. That's fine. I have been to country house hotels and other luxury hotels when there's been a wedding on. Usually some separation is made for wedding guests and people can hover round normal public areas as they wish. Mum and I sit down with a pint each in the oak lounge bit. We weren't told about a wedding, there was no sign saying we couldn't be there, we obviously weren't part of the wedding party but were still served. It was only going back for a second pint that I was rather curtly told that the whole house had been booked by the wedding party and we had to go back to our rooms! This is dreadful enough, being told that we can't use the facilities we've paid for, having to go back and confine ourselves to quarters like we'd just taken a dump in the soup, but that wasn't the end. I still had to extricate Mum from the wood paneled room. But before I could, the wedding party took up the whole hallway for their first dance! So we were basically trapped in someone else's wedding, with confrontational staff treating us like common trespassers! I won't go into detail about exactly what happened next, but another junior member of staff had a moment with a window pane that suddenly made us the unwanted focus of the Bride's father and his Ire- if looks could kill! If you're reading this, I'm sorry. Well I'm not. You were hitting on my mother and making inappropriate jokes. It couldn't have happened to a nicer man. Finally, we were eventually paraded through the hall in a scene reminiscent of Game of Thrones. All I needed was to be stripped and for people to have shouted "SHAME" as I went past. It's all a bit, well, Fawlty Towers isn't it? If you're going to be a small wedding venue and hotel but also hire out the whole hotel to wedding guests, you should just pick one and stick with it. Accept you're not big enough to do both. Either give guests the best wedding and outright bar non-wedding guests, or confine weddings to a barn conversion and let guests enjoy themselves! The next morning, I was so worried about what people would say or do to us that I had the car packed and ready to go at the drop of a hat. I didn't even want breakfast, I just wanted out. I thought I was in danger from angry guests. It was only because Mum said "I've paid for breakfast, I'm having breakfast!" that I didn't leave the key (yes, singular) in reception and floor it. Ineptitude doesn't even begin to cover it. There are plenty of hotels (including at least one other Country House) in the immediate area, I would recommend any of those. I'd sooner recommend getting a tent and staying on the hard shoulder of the M1 !

We had booked dinner but was told 100% of the waiting staff were allocated to a conference so had to go to nearby pub. Second night (wedding) we were told by groom and father of bride we had no right to use (only) bar. Room not cleaned, blind broken, slippery shower, service slow, staff clueless.

Positives - Friendly staff Negatives. Tired rooms in need of renovating Rooms are dingy with poor lighting Poor parking facilities Nobody bothered to clean my room during my stay which meant had to make do with unmade bed. Not normally a big deal but for the price I paid I would have expected it. Shower curtains. Not sure about you but I hate shower curtains sticking to me in the shower. Difficulties flushing toilets. TV in room doesn’t work due to poor satellite signal. Fire alarm false alarm that meant everyone had to go outside in the pouring rain!! Bar menu for food quite reasonable but Al Le Carte menu very overpriced. Our second night we actually ate out as it was too expensive to eat here. If you’re on business and have an dinner expense limit, you’ll be restricted to a hamburger and chips. The picture of the building / hotel on website is NOT where you stay. You Stay in an Annex which is like an old stable building which very worn out. I stay in hotels 100’s of nights a year. This was a disappointing stay to say the least. Rated as a 4 star. Don’t believe the 10/10 reviews on this hotel. I’d go be them a 5/10 or 6/10 tops. I won’t go back again. Once bitten as they say. Regardsy S Freeman

Terrible experience at reception sent on 3 wild goose chases. Receptionist took no responsibility. Housekeeping were super helpful. Eventually helped by the manager who upgraded the room and made sure everything was OK. I was going to eat in the restaurant with a friend but the menu was quite restrictive, but there is a lovely pub 300mts away. Room Was compact but had character in keeping with the venue. Comfy bed, big TV and lovely big towel.

TLDR: Beautiful venue, wedding coordinators come and go, and messages don't get passed on. If you pay for the complete package (£1500 more than the manor package), you'll end up not getting the little extras that should come with the complete package so save the cash and book the cheaper manor package or go somewhere else. Please note that I had such an awful and frustrating experience from the beginning when planning my wedding with Chicheley, that I kept a log of any time something went wrong (merely as a way to vent my frustrations) but I did say to myself, if the day goes by without any issues, then I won’t share this review. But things did go wrong, and I have let the venue know my feedback. I recently had my wedding at Chicheley Hall, and it is a lovely venue, but I wish I hadn’t ignored all the little red flags that happened along the way and gone somewhere else. As I no longer live in the UK but wanted to get married in my hometown of Milton Keynes, I had only seen the venue online but loved the look of it and having been to a couple weddings at Whittlebury Hall, I wanted something more grand and thought Chicheley would be the perfect location as it could host the wedding and reception, as well as provide accommodation for our guests (most of whom live out of town) The Wedding coordinator at the time of me making enquiries (We'll call her WC1 as she was the first of 3 wedding coordinators, I would end up dealing with) wasn’t particularly helpful. She was late to our first meeting and didn’t apologise for being late, which to me is a huge red flag but I wanted this to work so I ignored my gut feelings, then the call which was meant to be an opportunity for me to find out more about the process was rushed which left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Considering WC1 was meant to be a pro at organising weddings and meant to make me feel at ease, I found myself having to ask a lot of questions and it took a long time to get answers from her. Attention to detail wasn't great either - She would do things like send over a proposal for the manor package not the complete package even though that was requested several times. Not a big deal but you can see how things progressively get worse. After I paid the deposit, I was only then told about additional charges that weren’t mentioned on the call or subsequent emails. Things like chair hire, charger plates etc which apparently is normal, but having never planned a wedding before, I wish I had been advised this prior to booking as these things do add up. As previously mentioned, I have never been married before, and she was the supposed expert. I asked several times for a “timeline guide” for things I would need to arrange and instead was sent a bog-standard timeline off google that catered towards an American audience. She also often ignored my questions in emails and just seemed uninterested to help. It was no surprise when she left but it was annoying that she didn’t tell me she was leaving. It was only when I saw her Instagram that she was working somewhere new, so I contacted her to ask if she was still my wedding planner. She said no and that Chicheley should have told me. She didn’t tell me she was leaving or who to pick up with; no one at Chicheley reached out to let me know she had gone. Before leaving though, WC1 advised rooms would be at a reduced rate (with a discount code) for our guests; of course, when I asked the new coordinator, they weren’t aware of this. Also, me and my husband-to-be wanted a room for the night before the wedding as we do not live in the uk, and it would have been nice to not have to rush in the morning. WC1 said this was fine and all booked, but when she left, I checked to confirm this had been booked with the hotel and surprise surprise there was no mention of this at all, and they said in fact there were no rooms available* as it was a busy weekend. We ended up staying in the holiday inn down the road. (*This would later turn out not to be true and we were offered a room the night before the wedding, but we had already booked a non-refundable room in the HI by this point) The worst part about the room booking was that our guests struggled to book a room that should have been reserved for them to book- there was either no answer at reception (one guest called 20 times over the course of a week and had no response nor a call back after leaving numerous messages!) and then those that did get through were told there were no rooms available! This was (allegedly) due to a Silverstone event being on that same weekend and rooms were reserved for the Silverstone patrons! This was particularly frustrating as when I first reached out to Chicheley to set a date for my wedding, the wedding planner advised July would be busy with Silverstone events, and that august would be better so I picked a date in august; I was shocked to learn that Silverstone bookings would take precedent over a wedding -particularly with the amount I was paying them. you expect them to prioritise weddings and I guess a part or me did think we would have the venue to ourselves (what with the brochure showing “full use of manor house” etc) and then later i find out there will be some random car enthusiasts crashing my wedding. When my frustrations about booking rooms was picked up by the sales manager (who would then become our second wedding planner – aka WC2) who had also been picking up my queries in WC1’s absence I was advised she would speak to the reception team to ensure our guests can book a room, yet I was still getting calls from friends saying they were having difficulty booking a room. In the end, i was advised to share the sales managers contact number with guests so they could contact her to arrange booking and this worked out well. WC2 was much more helpful than WC1. We had a good long call, and she did a great job in alleviating my stress. You could tell she was a busy person, but she did try her best. However, I asked so many times for pictures of the guest rooms and cake stands but never received these. When our third and final wedding coordinator was hired, it was like a breath of fresh air. She was so great at listening and sending over information in a timely manner, I was so pleased to know that our wedding would be in safe hands, and I fully expected the day to go by without a hitch… On the Wedding Day… Unfortunately, there had been a wedding the day before so there was no parking available at the main entrance, and in typical British weather, it was raining a lot so there was a mad dash to get inside with all my things and avoid getting soaked. The bridal room is a decent size, but only has 1 full length mirror which my hairdresser had set up. Also, there was no easy to access toilet to use (which before the ceremony, nerves are understandably at the highest, so you need to pee!) I was also expecting some pastries and soft drinks to be provided (as promised by the second wedding coordinator) but that was not passed on it seems. The windows in the bridal suite are in desperate need of a clean too. The ceremony was meant to have the Groomsmen walking down the stairs with the bridesmaids, which the groomsmen knew who they were walking with, but apparently, they were told to stay by the altar. So, not a huge deal, but not what I wanted. We had photos before the wedding breakfast and even though our function sheet stated speeches at 4.30pm with food to be served at 5pm, WC3 (Who is really good usually but seemed a bit stressed on the day) tried to cut our photo session short and serve food at 4.30pm. Not a huge deal but just another example of things not going right when that seemed like an obvious one. During the wedding reception and prior to the evening entertainment, Chicheley was meant to play some nice music, but it was just silent. I was having more photos at this point but I did notice it was unusually quiet. As mentioned, we paid for the Complete package which includes extras that aren’t in the manor package. These include: champagne as opposed to Prosecco (which we did receive and was lovely) Still & sparkling water on tables – we were given tap water in a jug. Sorbet palate cleanser during the wedding breakfast – didn’t happen. I did query this later on in the evening and it was then offered but was far too late. No petite fours – we paid for these and didn’t receive them! Also frustratingly, our cake was meant to be cut in half so we could keep half but when we went to take it the next morning it was mostly gone so we didn’t get any of our middle tier and just a small slice from the top and bottom. On the day, you have so much going on that you should be able to trust that you can leave it to the should-be experts (this is their bread & butter you don’t plan for things to go missing) however we really don’t feel we got good value for money. When checking out on the Sunday the lady in reception was miserable as sin. My takeaway: Beautiful venue, good food, some great staff, just a bit of a shambles. If you do go ahead, don’t bother booking the complete package- just do basic manor package (save yourself £1500) Also be mindful that no matter how many times you stress that a guest has allergies, the chef will probably change hands and that message will get lost. Thankfully my guest was able to take medication before it got worse- even though she was assured that her condition had been acknowledged- she was still served the standard starter (her ‘special starter’ came out after she had eaten)

Booked this via booking.com last minute as we were visiting the area to go to a music event in the area. As soon as we arrived the hall is set in very nice grounds we went to reception to a warm welcome from I think the manager I must say nothing was too much trouble although they were busy with a wedding reception. We were pointed towards the south wing were our room was located on the first floor overlooking the garden , nice small but clean room perfect it was all we needed. The hotel helped with arranging a taxi as well we had a great time . In the morning we attended breakfast which was a buffet style with plenty to choose from . And a last note was so impressed with the building it makes a perfect location to get a snap of your car with the hall in the background which I did! And is posted on the owners club web site thanks to all the staff was the icing on the cake
