An absolutely fantastic small country hotel. We stayed for one night B&B and wish it had been more. We enjoyed drinks in the lovely bar and exceptional local food in the restaurant. The staff were fantastic. We are already looking to return.

We stayed at this hotel in 2019, and it was the best hotel we every stayed in. Since then, and the pandemic, this hotel has lost all of its character, it’s not been looked after and quite frankly it’s falling to bits. The taps were loose, the plugs didn’t work, the lights were out, the paint and plaster work on the walls was horrendous and the bed itself was broken. The room was covered with dust and it was such a shame given what this hotel used to be. Breakfast in the morning was mediocre at best and given what the food in the restaurant was like we were looking forward to it. Everything was over cooked and the lights were constantly flickering. We travelled 1 hour 30 minutes just to stay here again and we definitely won’t be back in a hurry.

Our room has no real curtains that we can draw across for the night. Just show curtains. We have had to improvise with the bed throw to help cover the part that is exposing is to the outside. This is ridiculous it’s supposed to the luxury room.

We went en masse for Sunday Lunch to celebrate Father's day. We had 3 children under 4 with us and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. High chairs were immediately brought, along with extra plates to share food with children. The food was excellent and as I have a 'thing' about interfaces between different food types they were more than happy to serve my lunch spread out on the plate, rather than in the more stylish 'pile'. I would highly recommend and will certainly visit again.

I agree with the previous review. This hotel has just changed hands. The website does not reflect the current condition of the rooms or the quality of the food. Emailed the manager who wasn't on site when we checked out, who has yet to respond. Issues with bedroom include: yellow stain in bath, bath didn't drain so 2nd person to shower had to stand in the dirty water from first person, room felt unclean, window didn't close properly, leak outside window that ran all night. At breakfast, tea was served in a cafetiere, breakfast was of low quality, room was very cold. Can't comment on evening food as we went elsewhere. Other major concern was data protection breach. Our details were left on the screen in reception for a good couple of hours for anyone to see. We feel we have been mis-led and mis-sold this hotel. I would suggest that Tom Garland-Jones if you're reading this that you ask the hotel to remove your details from the website as you wouldn't want your name still associated with it. I await a response to my email from the manager.

When booking online you think you’re booking a luxurious boutique hotel in the dales and the reality is far from. We understand the hotel has recently been taken over and works are on going but the issue is this isn’t being reflected in the price you’re asking customers to pay. For the price of the rooms, how we found the room was unacceptable. for example behind bed were rubbish/wrappers (someone else put they had rubbish behind bed in a review in March so I’m wondering if it’s the same rubbish left from March..) and thick dust lined behind bed and skirting boards. Simple things like mould in corners of ceilings and lining windows and shower rail also give a less than luxury feel. Given the hotel is listing all rooms as boutique rooms and at a steeper price, I don’t feel the room reflects that. You’d expect rooms to be done up to a higher standard, bright green emergency light in room all night which haven’t seen in years, room in need of modern light fittings/lamp shades, fresh decor and paint, majority of light switches didn’t work other than a couple and the entire shower door was broken and hanging off rail. We also were left with less than 2 inches of hand soap in bottle so had to buy our own. The shower also didn’t drain at all. On initial glance it looks like bathroom has been refurbed nicely but unfortunately to a poor standard, floor had cracked tiles and toilet seat not fastened properly to toilet so it moves when sit down on it. Given this issue of the shower door being broken and toilet seat broken was put in a review in both January and March (!!!) I think it’s unacceptable that 4 months later the problem has persisted and you’ve still not got it fixed, let alone still letting the room out to paying customers. No housekeeping in room during day ‘unless you ask’ which again in a hotel of that price you expect that standard of someone coming to make beds replenish toiletries and tea coffee etc. replenished items were left in a bag hanging on door but would it really be hard for someone to come in and replenish them themselves? There was also a continuous humming noise in our room and we never worked out where it was coming from but it kept us awake at times. The hotel in general is unclean, with dust and grime lining most surfaces including the breakfast room tables and window sills. breakfast room is in need of a refurb or at least a deep clean. Hoovers and other random equipment left in breakfast room also was unsightly. Random wrappers/rubbish nearby were buffet was being served. Crockery was also not clean. Simple touches could add a nicer feel to breakfast process, eg a small plate and butter/toast knife on table for toast, and make menus paper or in wallets as laminated sheets of paper gives a cheap feel. Cant fault staff as all we interacted with were friendly and pleasant and trying their best given what management has given them. Other than the management, who doesn’t seem to interact with guests nor smile just walks around on his laptop. Hotel is in great location with walks and things to do just up the road. Overall, understanding the hotel is in new management I think it could be lovely in the future as more and more refurb and work gets done. However until it’s that standard throughout and that work gets done I think edits need to be made to website, realistic photos of rooms and reduce pricing to reflect reality of the hotel currently.

Excellent stay. We stayed one night in the Pen—y-ghent room and it was gorgeous. With a neoresso machine and a firestick tv as an added bonus! The bathroom had a gorgeous large bathtub and it was amazing! We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was gorgeous. Breakfast the next morning also fab. Staff were lovely. Only thing I would say is the place could do with being redecorated but everything else was spot on

I have frequented this famous Upper Wharfedale pub for decades, enjoying it’s comforting surrounding and setting overlooking the dale and next to many great walks. My visit yesterday was disappointing. The public space have lost their warmth in and this impression was only amplified by the hospitality. The landlord walked past me clutching a laptop as I entered the building, offered no greeting and left me to stand at the bar for some time while he presumably dealt with something more urgent. The waiting time did allow me opportunity to take in my surroundings. The bar area itself is quaint and oak panelled but relatively dark, dining areas are lighter with views out to the fields beyond but are relatively bare in appearance. Our visit was just after lunch and despite being a very pleasant bank holiday day, there was just one group in the dining room and one or two couples seated at the tables outside on the roadside (although there was an uncleared table in the bar suggesting others had dined).

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The drinks were reasonably priced, the food was great and the room was excellent. The breakfast was included in the price and if was really nice. The views from the hotel are fantastic

The hotel is described as 'luxury boutique' but it is anything but! It is shabby beyond belief and staff have sloppy practices. Bedding and towels were clean and the room was light and pleasantly furnished. However, it was incredibly hot and the windows could not be opened. The bathroom had cracked tiles, a badly cracked basin and a towel rail partly hanging off the wall. Food was below average - very limited choice (6 main courses) and we were never offered a desert menu. The chicken in 'red wine and mushroom sauce' was swimming in horrible gravy (granules?) and chicken was very tough. The dining room was so shabby - filthy carpet., cobwebs in corners, dirty windows and windowsills. At breakfast there was a dirty jug of gravy from the previous night along with a filthy dish cloth on a table outside the door to the kitchen. Some of the crockery was badly chipped. At the first breakfast (27th April) the yogurts had a Best Before date of 11th April! They re-appeared the following morning when I pointed it out to a member of staff. It would appear that no one is managing the place - and that a succession of casual staff are 'drifting'. It would also appear that there are no staff on the premises at night and we left without seeing any staff. A shocking way to run a hotel. It's not cheap and is VERY poor value for money.
