“Britain’s finest camping experience” Janey Lee Grace, Radio 2 DJ and Best Selling Author. This multi award-winning camp was set up by design couple Carolyn and Christian Van Outersterp who had previously masterminded London’s stylish restaurant bar and discreet celebrity hang out CVO Firevault. This original and authentic woodland camp is set within 200 acres of fabulous forest, it's about simple pleasures, great food and socialising around a roaring log fire. For the kids it’s heaven on earth. This is a unique British Woodland Camp with a lovely communal feel – a tea tent and campfire are at its heart and the camp appeals to families, couples and groups. Jollydays is ideally situated close to York (less than 2 hours from Kings Cross), close to the Yorkshire Wolds, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Moors National Park. New for summer 2019 is a magical fairy wood attraction and fairy museum (free entry for guests) and stylish woodland inspired café bar - don't miss it!

Detailed Reviews
Stayed at North Star club for one night. Anticipated a luxury log cabin, but unfortunately it’s not luxury at all. Although the large bathroom/freestanding tub was lovely, the cabin itself is very tired, wasn’t particularly clean (stains on curtains, basic crockery didn’t look clean at all so luckily I had brought my own from home, small kitchenette smelt like wet dog) and wasn’t worth just over £200 for the night (this is including the discount for 2 people, full price was £250 per night). I chose a self catering cabin as I thought it would be safer than a hotel during the current covid situation (less interaction with other guests etc) but wish I’d spent the £200 on a 4* + hotel instead.

We stayed in the wood cutters hut for my husbands birthday. There were 4 of us and it was lovely and snug. We had such a fantastic time. The little welcome pack was a lovely touch and the owner always seemed to be around to help. When we went to the firepit later on in the evening he helped us to relight the fire and provided a speaker to play music out of and set a volume so as to be respectful of other guests. It was just lovely. There are two lovely woodland walks that we enjoyed and each accommodation was provided with it's own toilet and shower so as to adhere to covid guidelines. We also watched as the huts were deep cleaned on our departure and we were extremely impressed with the care and effort that went into this. The only thing that could have been better was hot water when we went for a shower. But overall what a fantastic experience. We will definitely be coming back again!

I think for the money we paid its very over priced, I have read some reviews and think they are a little harsh! This is camping after all, so if your expecting all mod cons and a luxury holiday then don't go camping!
To be truly honest however the tents are tired and do need a face lift! My constructive feedback would be as follows:
The sofa beds are really uncomfortable and they need to be replaced with something you can actually sit on and relax they are clearly cheap! Given the monies paid please provide some decent sofas with arms and cushions
The bathroom i would convert into a wet room, the baths are too small for you to lie in so at best you can sit in them!
Its Glamping so i think on the top end tents that are really expensive electricity should be provided so you can at least charge phones dry your hair etc.
Our tent number 14 was letting rain in the bedroom, this needs sorting out for the money paid you should be at the very least dry!
The log burners where great! And the beds where nice and spacious and comfy! Pillows were a little hard however! but the bedding was nice.
The floorings needs replacing and the mops were filthy and need replacing !
Also i would provide bath mats the bathroom floors were constantly wet through and the mops don't mop anything as they are so old!
overall it was ok but i would say at the very most only worth £300 for 4 nights and £500 for a full week!

I was apprehensive about going due to the reviews. However, we all really enjoyed our time! There are some issues with the actual accommodation; however, nothing that takes away from the fantastic experience.
We stayed in a lodge tent. It was huge! The beds were comfy, the bedding clean, the dishes/cutlery/glasses etc clean. The toilet and shower worked without issue and the wood stove kept things toasty warm. The covered deck allowed us to bbq and eat outside even when it rained.
The less positives were the tent seemed ‘tired’, with mildew spots and holes visible, causing tiny puddles of water. There was limited storage space for clothes and food, and given you’re in a tent in the woods, this meant giving everything a good shake before wearing to remove any bugs. There were also cobwebs worthy of a haunted house, suggesting cleaning is brisk rather than thorough.
The location is magical. It’s very dark at night so torches are needed. You feel a million miles from the hustle and bustle of normal life and it was fab to see children running about and playing. You definitely need wellies!!
The fire pit is a good gathering spot. With people chatting, drinking and toasting marshmallows. Everybody seemed in good spirits and to be enjoying their stay.
Staff are not always visible but can be contacted via phone, and are super friendly and helpful.
There is no access to electricity in the tents for charging things. However, you can plug in at reception if need be.
I can see why some people aren’t happy with the accommodation, it feels a bit tired. However, we had an amazing time and would go again.

Had a fabulous few days at Jollydays, we stayed in a woodcutter hut and really enjoyed. A fabulous place to get away from it all. It was quiet when we went as everyone there were couples and families due to covid rules. It felt safe to let my 6 year old ‘go play’.
Shared fire at night was great to get to know other guests, lots of marshmallows and a couple of beers consumed. The staff were great, really friendly and helpful.
At -3 at night the log burner was definitely needed, but with thick duvet and blankets provided we were toasty. The toilets and showers were in a separate block but each had a combination lock so only you could go into your own toilet or shower. Plenty of hot water.
The hut was clean and great for us. Small suggestions are that the sofa bed could soon do with a mattress upgrade, and the hoop on the shower curtain could be larger to give a bit more space in the shower. A paper map of the site to go with the other info would be helpful.
We really enjoyed, and had a fabulous time. Also my daughter loved the fairy trail!

Had a wonderful week relaxing in the woods after a few months of being locked up at home. The weather was awful but who cares when you've got a covered veranda to sit under and a log burner inside for the evenings. Some of the criticisms in other reviews were what made it great for me. I don't go 'glamping' in the woods for a hotel experience, I'm looking for a camp with added extras. A flushing toilet, a hot shower, a cooker, a fridge, a wood burner and a BBQ certainly fit the bill. Yes we did have some occasional leaks but we were after all in a tent in some truly abysmal weather. If you want a hotel, book into a hotel. If you want to be in the middle of a lovely wood with canvas over your head then Jollydays is amazing.

We have just stayed at the star suit for a couple of nights, I can’t begin to let you know how disappointed we were not at all what we were expecting when you look at the website.
I text the day we arrived but as yet still have not had a response to my message, we had to start cleaning the place Its falling apart as I swept the porch the wood was all loose & falling off. I went to the woodshed to report this but there weren’t any staff around.
There was no mention when we booked of having to do your own cleaning, we wanted to turn round and come home at least the bedding and towels were clean I can’t believe we paid £450 for 2 nights to stay in a dirty dilapidated cabin, the floor in the bathroom was all rotten and dangerous, someone will end up falling through. The floor mop was dirty, disgusting and smelly, I placed it in boiling water with some detergent to try and clean it.I had to persuade my partner to stay he was disgusted with the state of the place and wanted to leave but we had so much booked to do for the 2 days.
Under the present circumstances with COVID we would hope the cabin would be deep cleaned after each booking but it doesn’t look like it’s had a deep clean in years!
I really am lost for words, please please don't book unless you have visited first or you will be totally disappointed. I'm still awaiting a response to my email to them, they should be reported to the Trading Standards!

First the positives
The woodland is beautiful and wild. We loved the faeries walk, so much more than we expected. Really cleverly done and obviously taken a lot of planning and work. The Northwood cafe is well staffed, lovely building and great produce.
Second the negatives
The campsite isn't staffed. There was no welcome, as described in the packs emailed out to guests. It felt like a free for all. Maps were difficult to follow and no one to tell us where we were staying. Lots of families arrived at the same time and ended up helping each other locate accomodation.
Accomodation looks tired. I'm sure it was amazing 13 years ago when the promo materials were produced but it now seems there aren't enough people concentrating on the site to keep it to a standard. I noticed on signs around the site and other posts here that COVID is being referenced. No reduction in price to match the reduced service. Our tent was dirty. I don't mean the actual tent or even the floors as it's a camp site, you expect that, but the kitchen, dishes and pans weren't clean. We payed extra for a 'marquee' on the Saturday night. We were only told where it was because we saw someone arriving at the café on the Saturday and asked. It was coincidentally the owners. The tables in the marquee had old dirty tablecloths with someone else's food on them. I cleaned and changed the tablecloths myself.
I feel if the owners want to improve customer service they should at least keep to the details shown on their own literature. Welcome guests, clean tents, maintain the site and be available. None of us came expecting luxury, we wanted a bit of wilderness with a clean comfy bed. What we found came across as an over priced unmaintained business that doesn't care about it's guests.
We enjoyed our stay because it was a family celebration but I was mortified that I brought my family from around the country and handed over £2,000 to stay in dirty unloved accomodation.
Please get a better maintainance plan. Or reduce your prices.

We stayed 8-15 August as a family of 3. Where others have not found their lodges clean ours was pretty good. Spiders etc, yes, but I probably expected this as we were within the woods. Our bbq worked and we had some utensils so this must vary cabin to cabin. We were very aware that North Star is not marketed as self catering so we brought lots of stuff from home: sharp knives, chopping board, bbq utensils, frying pan etc. It’s worth doing this. The bbq has a gas ring so you can boil pasta, scramble eggs etc.
Our bbq was also pretty clean and when we left we also cleaned ours thoroughly. It sounds like this also varies. Probably in the time of Covid this should be inspected and not left up to guests (if it is).
Bed was clean and comfy, bathroom large and well equipped. We liked it. Second bedroom is quite small but ok for one teen or two younger.
We enjoyed the facilities onsite. David organising the archery was great and walks in the woods revealed bird hydes and little wigwams.
If I had any suggestions it would be please provide somewhere to put clothes. Three hangers in the little kitchen (It wasn’t the best place for clothes either) wasn’t adequate and we lived out of a suitcase for a week. A rail or chest of drawers in the bedroom or bathroom would have been great.
We would definitely return. Go prepared with kitchen stuff, some detol wipes and remember you’re in the woods.

We visited North Star Club for a couple of nights. There is a self check in due to COVID, this was fine with me. The lodge and BBQ was clean, however we did take extra cleaning supplies and our own cutlery etc. The interior of the lodge was amazing too! Water pressure really good and hot water. We did get phone signal, just a bit slow.
The only cons of the lodge was that there were some finishing touches that weren’t up to the ‘luxury’ standard; broken photo frames, dusty curtains at the bottom, a metal nail randomly in between the wall, outside light didn’t work above the door. Also, being asked to clean on checkout somewhat ruined the ‘luxurious’ feel of the stay. A lot of signage in the lodge too. I also think the check out time of 10:30 is a little early. A breakfast package included in the price may have seemed more worthwhile for your money when they advertise it as a luxury break.

As Grace says, it's fine for adults. When we went 2 adults slept on the sofabed with no complaints.
