Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Only used takeaway menu and disappointed by what we received asked for Chinese chicken curry but I got rice and what tasted like a tikka sauce but no chicken, only realised what we had once home 15 mins away. I phoned the hotel and they are refunding his meal they said it was a kitchen mix up. Poor excuse shouldn’t a kitchen run smoothly. Also got a pizza but poor quality, it was a pizza but had better at another local establishment. So for me I won’t repeat this experience. Shame hope for more

This is NOT a county house hotel. It is more like a sole-less travel lodge. It’s stark. Baron even. Lacks any charm or style. The bar resembles a drinking men’s club and the bleak restaurant is like railway carriage seats in rows with no atmosphere at all. The bedroom was clean. The bed comfy. However I struggled with anything more than tepid hot water in the bath/shower, a window that was broken so let in the cold all night and 3 days - my room was not serviced at all (allowing for Sunday as a day of rest on the island). While I received a token reduction off my £198 per night bill, it nowhere compensated for this dismal experience. The not really cared attitude and lack of apology added to my feeling that I would STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND this hotel as an option if visiting the lovely area. Only slightly off-set by a couple of the young staff who were pleasant. Highly disappointed.

Hardly a “country house” but a good comfortable hotel with tasty food and friendly service. Very rural location but we would recommend driving here from Stornaway rather than the expensive offerings in the town. Price is also more realistic!

We had booked directly with the hotel. Cheaper than way, for sure. The hotel has 9 rooms and 3 separate chalets. The standard of cleanliness throughout is first class. The staff that we chatted with were all very friendly and helpful ...nothing was too much trouble. My wife has some food allergies and the chef did an excellent job in making sure that her food did not contain anything to which she is allergic...great job there, well done Dougie. And a special mention to Kirsten who gave us a lot of information about sights to see...thank you. Overall, our experience was excellent and would thoroughly recommend. We will return.

The hotel is very clean and I really loved it was not cookie cutter. The room furnishings were comfortable and there was space to put things. We stayed two nights. The bathroom was huge. The hotel is very quiet and I loved seeing sheep out the window. Staff was very helpful. The dining room is light and airy. I found the cold breakfast choices very limited and I do not remember any fresh fruit. The bagged lunches were also pretty tasteless. Most of the dinner choices were fried or just heavy. I did order steak one night and it was nicely prepared. Skip the scampi and the lasagne.

We ate in the restaurant, service was friendly and polite. Whatever you do don't order the scampi, terrible! A bag of deep frozen rubbish from a cheap supermarket that they put on the plate, don't buy it. Absolute insult to people who spend there money their. My father took the steak pie however and that was definitely reasonable! Ps Don't order that fake scampi!!!

I was over in Lewis & Harris for work and, usually, my employer gets me somewhere in Stornoway. This time they weren’t able to do that, so I was put 25 minutes outside of Stornoway in Borve, I won’t lie, this didn’t amuse me. After arriving on the Island and completing my first days work, I headed out to my digs. The drive out is pretty decent to be honest; the weather was good and the road was almost all mine. So, I arrived in the car-park in good fettle and was immediately struck by how nice the hotel and the lodges in it’s grounds are. Check-in was simple and Greta was extremely charming and welcoming. She showed me to my room and all I could say was ‘wow!’ My jaw literally dropped. It was huge. And it was beautifully furnished. Greta left me to enjoy my new surroundings and said to come down for dinner whenever I was ready; no pressure, no time-constraints. So, after unpacking, showering and changing, I went down to the impressive dining room. Seamus was the waiter on duty and let me say he was an utterly charming and amiable young man. I opted for the fish and chips and, having already been advised by a customer of mine during the day, can confirm that the portions/servings are more than generous. It was delicious and I must confess a few chips remained on my plate. I was stuffed. I returned to my room briefly before heading out to get some photos at Callanish Standing Stones, but not before I met the owner and had a great wee chat with him. I returned around 11pm and fell into the massive bed. It was luxurious. I honestly didn’t want to leave it when my alarm went off the following morning. I went back down to the dining room for breakfast and once again the portions were plentiful. It was the perfect start to any day. Over the next 3 nights of my stay I met most of the staff; all were exceptional. All were charming. And all were superbly hospitable. It was a great place to stay. So much so that I’ll go back again when I’m next over on Lewis. That drive isn’t as daunting as I first thought it might be; in fact it was quite relaxing.

Took our local social club for lunch here for the first time and had a really good meal with excellent service in a great light room with views of the sea. The menu was extensive with options for all and the food was superb. The portions were large and well priced. Only word of caution would be that for some older people there was actually too much food on the plate so might be worth asking for a smaller portion if that puts some off.

We had dinner with four people. We missed a little bit charm. It seems it is a hotel for bus tours. The service from the young ladies are very unfriendly and less professional.T his changed when a young man took over the service. He was very kind and quick.
